MotorStorm gets rumble support

Plus other 3.0 tweaks.

MotorStorm has been patched to version 3.0, introducing support for the upcoming DualShock 3's rumble (hurrah) and tweaking a number of other variables.

According to Sony's community folk, the patch is set for release today and all you have to do to install it is pop the Blu-ray disc in the drive, select "Online" from the main menu, join a game universe and then agree to be patched when prompted.

As well as vibration support with adjustable sensitivity settings to go with the DualShock 3 when it launches (November in Japan, spring in US/Europe), version 3.0 adds sensitivity settings for Sixaxis motion-sensor controls, and introduces a "Gloating Index" which tracks your successes and failures against other racers.

Check out the official list of changes below:

  • Added vibration support for DUALSHOCK 3 controller with adjustable sensitivity settings.
  • Grid order has been randomised for first race in any online lobby.
  • Finishing positions in your last race now determine your starting grid position in the next race within the same online lobby.
  • On-screen indicator has been added to show whether voice comms are issuing from TV or headset. As before, please press and hold L1 (R1 if using control scheme ‘B’) to toggle headset output through TV or Headset.
  • Sensitivity Settings for SIXAXIS Motion Sensor control have been added.
  • ‘Gloating Index’ has been added to the Stats card - The Gloating index gives guidance as to a racer’s online prowess. It takes into account the number of people you’ve beaten in each race and the number of people that have beaten you. Use the gloating index to spot the players to beat in each race! Try and rank your Gloating Index up to the perfect ‘10’!
  • Several causes for an occasional snagging issue which would destroy vehicles on suspension impact have been addressed.
  • Further fixes to prevent the occasional statistics reset issue have been applied.
  • Fixed an occasional issue with inaccuracies in Eliminator finishing results.
  • Fixed an issue where winners leaving Eliminator before race completed could cause issues for other players in lobby.

Thank god for that. I was worried for a second.

If you can fix the godawful load times then I might buy it again.

"Sensitivity Settings for SIXAXIS Motion Sensor control have been added"

Hope this makes the game playable with the tilt controls ;)

can anyone point me in the direction of a site that still allows for import of the dualshock 3?
  • Les #5 4 years ago

Love the game but have only played an online race once. Seemed a little less smooth but might have been due to my poor wifi reception at the time.

Why has the Dualshock 3 not been released over here yet?

I'd just like to know because it's about the only thing holding me back from buying a PS3 right now. Why should I buy one now when I know a new controller will be released in the near future?

if i import a dualshock 3 - will it work with my pal ps3?

  • dazzaman #9 4 years ago

It's not just the controller you need, PS3 firmware update needs applying and game patches for the original games.

otherwise you've just got another SIXAXIS but heavier.

In theory yes. Bluetooth is Bluetooth no matter where in the world it's used.

    Which is why I pre-ordered a Dually3 this morning.
So don't shoot me if you order one and it doesn't work. I'll be in the same boat.

    Splendid news!

I guess somebody who makes it over with a bag of Dual Shock 3s from Japan could make a fortune on Ebay.
  • dazzaman #12 4 years ago

This is speculation so please don't flame me.

We all know how well Sony look after us europeans so I bet they will release the rubmle controller in a PS3 bundle a month before you can buy it standalone.

  • Moogrose #13 4 years ago

@drumbaby - ta, much apreciated. never used yesasia before, but just popped my order in :)

"We all know how well Sony look after us europeans so I bet they will release the rubmle controller in a PS3 bundle a month before you can buy it standalone."

Well, I wouldn't mind that since I don't even have a PS3 yet. But why the hold up in the first place?

Obviously support isn't an issue if we're getting patches for already released games.
  • penhalion #15 4 years ago

The hold up is to do with quantity. They are expecting huge demand for the controllers and haven't allocated enough production facilities to fill those orders.
  • JHuxley #16 4 years ago

    @penhalion

...that's a pretty reasonable excuse I guess. A pity they've messed up with demand expectations though, because a pre-Christmas release surely would have boosted PS3 sales even further.

And I wouldn't be so surprised to see unsold controllers on the shelves of Japanese retailers soon after launch...as tobsen said someone is going to make a killing on Ebay.

More to do with clearing out the old stock of controllers first.
  • kangarootoo #18 4 years ago

    @dr_swin and dazzaman

Firmware v1.94 should have rumble support in it, and its due in the not too distant. So the firmware support may be there before the hardware is actually available in this country.

Sounds to me dr_swin like if you imported a controller from japan, the support for it would probably be there around the same time as it turns up in the post.

I think this has been posted before, but here it is again.

"More to do with clearing out the old stock of controllers first"

... and making an extra 30 quid from anybody who buys a PS3 this side of spring and then has to upgrade the controller.
  • dominalien #21 4 years ago

"Several causes for an occasional snagging issue which would destroy vehicles on suspension impact have been addressed."

Finelly! This was driving me nuts, especially in a few of the later races. Too bad I finished the game already.

Still, ace game. Still playing online from time to time.
  • septimus #22 4 years ago

Good to see the continued support in this game. Wish more dev's were like that.
  • monkie_king #23 4 years ago

*Sigh*, these post-release bug-fix patches seem to be becoming a fact of life on the next-gen consoles =( Whatever happened to making sure the game was bug-free before you release it?

At this rate it won't be long until we're at the PC game level of "shove it out the door in time for the release date, then gradually patch it into a playable state later". And then we'll be no better than animals.
  • Rushy #24 4 years ago

Was playing it this morning with rumble using the current firmware :)

drumbaby thanks! Just ordered Dualshock 3 and look forward to properly play PS3 games, though only few to start with but wont be suprised if more patches are released before the controller ships in Europe.
  • tobsen #27 4 years ago

I wonder if rumble will also be supported if you attach a Dualshock 2 with the proper adaptor?
  • MilkYMoO #28 4 years ago

I hate rumble aswell its so last-gen.
  • Stepharneo #29 4 years ago
