MotorStorm completes hat-trick

Euro number one completes set.

Having already slopped mud around at the top of the US and Japanese software sales charts, PlayStation 3 exclusive MotorStorm has also secured the top spot in Europe, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting. Those rogues.

Developed by Runcorn-based Evolution Studios, MotorStorm was launched alongside Sony's new console in all three territories. Although it was beaten to pole position in the UK by fellow first-party title Resistance: Fall of Man, the game has scored a number one across Europe overall - just as it went straight to the top when PS3 launched in Japan and North America.

"To see MotorStorm top the European, the Japanese and the US PlayStation 3 charts is just fantastic," said Evolution boss Martin Kenwright.

"Developing Motorstorm to a standard we were all happy with was certainly a challenge - but the team here really delivered. Evolution has a reputation for delivering high quality racing titles, but the consensus was to come up with something really special for Sony's new hardware."

"We're delighted that the public has agreed with the press and made MotorStorm a worldwide number one PlayStation 3 title."

    This is just about the only game I wish I had a PS£ for. Other than that, I am perfectly happy with my 360.

    The statistic companies (who I am positive do monitor these and other message boards) should realise we aren't taken in by these stats anymore. We see them for what they are i.e. spin on the obvious.

    If I launch a console and sell 100k units, then unless all of those units sell without a game, I will be at the top of the charts for that week and maybe a few weeks after my launch. Duh!

    It helps immensely that nothing worth a damn came out on the other platforms during that time. Note Sony delayed GOW2 so that it wouldn't top the charts here during the same period.

    Er..no it didn't.

    It charted at No.34 in Japan and then dropped out of the chart the following week.

    As far as the US it seems highly doubtful as it has already dropped to no 53 at Amazon.com in less than a month and I don't remember it making the top spot even on launch week ( figures are only released on a monthly basis so it's hard to tell).

    It's a great game for sure, perhaps lacking in modes and tracks but fun nevertheless, but my favourite PS3 game is...ummm... F1 Championship Edition as I've been playing that far more than any other game bar the oddly addictive GripShift.

    Why do lots of people say that as though it's reassurance that their Xbox 360 isn't a POS.

    "DMC4 goes multiplat one less reason to get a PS3"
    "I hope MGS4 goes multiplat so i don't have to get a PS3"

    etc etc.

    Isn't that line getting old yet?

    In all format charts it never got to number one except in Europe.

    Well they didn't say PS3 charts. Although I suppose saying we charted at number 34 isn't nice for the spin.

    Lol - thanks Dizzy i didnt realise that either!! Did the PS3 get to the top of the PS3 hardware charts as well. ;)

    Motorstorm is a pretty good game but I cant make my mind up which I prefer more that or Resistance multiplayer.

    I too am addicted to Gripshift. Probably play that more than any other PS3 game at the minute.

    What the hell makes you think that the likes of ChartTrack, gallup or whoever it is that cooks up these numbers spend their time reading the rantings on a gaming message board.

    We understand you are unhappy with the current status quo, your platform holder of choice is/isnt getting the coverage/love/kudos/props you feel it deserves.

    Theres obviously a conspiracy going on aimed at you personally(seeing as your the only one upset enuff to go on about it in every single thread).

    What did you do to upset all these people?

    @lennon: I for one would LMAO if the PS3 didn't get to the top of the PS3 hardware chart, by being beaten by it's own pad :D (although that would require an average of 1.0001 pads sold extra per console, which would certainly make Sony's add-on sales look good!)

    Quite a few people seem to be missing the point here. This isn't a "PS3 is doing great" news story. It's a MotorStorm story. Enough with the platform bitching already.

    This game is awesome, some of the best races I've ever had. So unpredictable and fun.

    Shame it's so limited in terms of modes though.

    @ Talha - Yes, for now. As far as released titles go that is the only PS3 exclusive I would like to see on 360. I won't comment on titles still to be released as I haven't seen them or played them.

    @ Steroyd - That was more a compliment to Motorstorm than anything else. And why are you being so defensive? For reassurance that the PS3 isn't a POS?

    poor Virtua Fighter 5, it deserves to be really high up in the chart as it is by far the best game on the system. but no, people bought Resistance, fucking resistance. i can understand it appeals to more people as it is a generic fps but dammit i won't stand for mediocrity. i downloaded the motorstorm demo it was quite fun but not excite truck fun, but i guess it is another ps3 game that appeals to more owners of the system.

    I concur with your opinion 100%. F1:CE has really impressed me, and far more than I thought it would. On the other hand, MS while oodles of fun, just doesn't have quite the same level of "wow" or "drool" factor (well, apart from the occasional "laugh out loud" insane crash sequence). F1 is just so much more intense, especially knowing one slight misstep and your hard earned 8th place is kaput!

    The intermittent wireless interference controller drop out is uber agitating though. Anyone have word on what it's gonna take to improve that issue?

    I do not think its anti-sony people that are puzzled about this.

    Look this is the PS3 chart but who the hell gives a damn about ONLY the PS3 chart and also do we see any news about the Xbox 360 chart, the Wii chart, the PSP or DS chart?

    No, we get a news about the PS3 chart ... this is PR pure and simple and at this point its shamefully seeing what is professional journalists being a extension of the PR department.

    I agree... also I find it curious that no gaming sites are writing about the "faulty" EU PS3 units.
    When I write "faulty" I mean the many reports about EU PS3 units being very loud while others are very silent. Total media blackout!

    Motorstorm is the bomb, congrats Evolution.

    I like my PS3. I don't care about the X360 or the Wii, and I don't bother writing shite about the Wii and the X360 like many of the posters here do write about the PS3 (Specially Vin and penhalion who obviously have their tounges stuck far up Bills bottom).

    I'm sure X360 and Wii are good games consoles. Just not for me.

    The word "factual" implies at least some basis in empirical reality. GameRankings.com shows that this game has a median review score of some 83%, well above the range of the "average".

    Your lonely lil' opinion doesn't get to decide it, trollboy.

    Great news.

    Why has this thread attracted so many anti PS3 people. Its like they want the PS3 to fail or something. There wasting there energy, as the Playstation 3 will be number one, and the Wii number two, thus leaving the X360 holding onto last position. Lol!

    Reeeally? How in the hell could you come to that ridiculous conclusion? PS3 sales are already laughable throughout Game (I work there, sadly) and the thing has only just been released. We literally didn't sell one PS3 last week, whereas the 20 Wii consoles we had went within hours.
    Ohh and the words you were looking for were ''They're'' and ''their''.
