Monkey Island WiiWare gets US date

Today. European information "very soon".

Telltale Games has announced that the first Tales of Monkey Island episode, Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, will be released on WiiWare in the US today.

"For our friends in Europe, fear not!" says the blog announcement. Sounds promising. "We'll have release date information for you guys very soon." Oh.

Launch of the Screaming Narwhal came out on PC earlier this month and picked up healthy scores despite Telltale's inconsistent record with its episodic adventures.

We described it as "highly entertaining", with "consistently excellent puzzle design", which sounds a bit positive. I'll have words.

The second episode, The Siege of Spinner City, is expected next month for PC.

I tried to threaten them into announcing a release date via twitter:

"@telltalegames I've got a little TIP for you - tell us the release date in Europe soon :) - get the POINT?"

    The response?

    "@kngsuperspecial I'm shakin', I'm shakin'."

Inconsistent? Telltale are one of the most consistent developers I can think of!

Hmmm. Played the demo of this and I'm not sure I was sold.

The new control system is a massive pain in the bum. Combined with that I found I was in situations where I needed an item that was in my curent location, but couldn't be seen from the current camera angle. Wandering 10 feet in a random direction so I can see objects that my character would be able to see already is just annoying.

I loved the remake on XBLA, and played that before coming to the demo of the new game. The comparison was not kind to the new outing I'm afraid to say.

Yeah, come on Telltale, release this on XBLA. The controls would make more sense than those damn PC ones (and whilst I preordered the PC version I can't currently play it on my own laptop due to shitty onboard gfx. Bizarrely Wallace and Gromit runs fine!)

ToMI has a quality setting you can turn down if you're not getting sufficiently good framrates. Check the settings panel.
