Molyneux unveils Fable III for 2010

Become the ruler of Albion.

Lionhead and Microsoft Games Studios Europe boss Peter Molyneux has announced Fable III for Xbox 360 at a press conference at gamescom in Cologne, Germany this morning. It will be released in 2010.

The game will see you become the ruler of Albion, deciding whether to be a kind king or a tyrant, and whether to keep the promises you made on your way to top. Your decisions and judgements will affect the shape of Albion and its society.

You'll be a hero ruler, and still an adventurer, "like a captain in Star Trek", said Molyneux. The game won't be an RTS, he promised. You'll also be able to travel to lands beyond Albion's borders for the first time.

The game will be out next year, but "don't expect it too early in 2010", said Molyneux.

You'll find plenty more information in our exclusive preview and live press conference report.

Next year? I really doubt that. 2012 seems more likely.

The game seems interesting in it's own way, but haven't we had all this before? The second game wasn't exactly interesting from a narrative perspective either, irritating voice work, though the woman who tells the story and offers advice to the player is actually the voice of a reading machine I use in synthesized form.

"...deciding whether to be a kind king or a tyrant, and whether to keep the promises you made on your way to top."

Will this game ship with the tagline: "Inspired by the life and times of Peter Molyneux" then?

@jjolley It's clearly Zoe Wanamaker, the actress. She has a very distinctive voice. Don't think any of the voicework is particularly offensive EXCEPT the repetition of "and so our story begins" every time you're trying to load a game that began a long time ago!

Too soon i wouldn't mind waiting for it to be made better the last game only came out last year still looking forward to it.

Good news. The second one, while not one of the best (IMO) was a reasonably good game, and you can never have enough of good RPGs. I hope he doesn't try to somehow shoehorn in Natal concepts (unless he has a really really good way of incorporating it).

    At Moribundman:
Thanks. I figured she'd be famous because her voice is used quite often with TTS type software. As I said, she's used on my reader.

I'm not saying the voice work is offensive, but I think perhaps some of it comes over strung together.

Great news. Looking forward to this, Fable 2 was the best game of 2008.

Is this Fable III or Fable 1.3? Having elready played Fable 1.2 on my 360 - and enjoyed it!

Yawn another boring fable game best thing about the second one was the bit when you flashed back to your childhood they could have really pressed the story from there developed it much further and taken a much gritty conclusion rather than the sancutrine drivel we were left with and made a much less dull main quest. If it had been more exciting I might of made an effort to do the side quests like zelda but hey each to their own

2 years (or less) is a worryingly tight turnaround considering he's talking about more big features. Getting to be a ruler sounds fun but I hope at some point the idea is given the time needed for polishing to be a really great game.
