Molyneux responds to Milo release fuss

"Greenberg hasn't seen it since last year."

Lionhead and Microsoft Game Studios main man Peter Molyneux has responded to the current fuss over the on/off release of Kinect game Milo & Kate at the GameHorizon conference in Gateshead.

When asked by GamesIndustry.biz about Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg's comment on Australian telly that Milo & Kate was just a "tech demo", Molyneux reassured his adoring public that the relationship sim was alive and kicking.

"Poor Aaron Greenberg - he's on the PR team, he hasn't seen it since last year, so he came up with this stock answer that Milo is alive and well and living in Guildford but it's still a tech demo.

"I feel sorry for him, he hasn't seen the game since last year. If I had spent time with him and showed him the game recently, he'd know what was going on.

"All that technology that we showed at E3 last year actually does work," he promised.

Molyneux told the conference that he has struggled to convince people of Milo & Kate's credibility.

"Milo has been a really hard thing to do and a really hard thing to describe. I have real sympathy for the [Microsoft] people over in Redmond, because they understandably have some questions.

"The biggest challenge for us is convincing people what we're doing is actually going to work, is going to reach a new audience, is going to be an idea that people love. That for me is a massive challenge. Convincing people what you're doing is something that can change the world."

Milo & Kate is expected to be formally unveiled in a couple of week's time at TEDGlobal 2010 in Oxford, UK.

'Milo & Kate'.... so you get the actor too?
  • Ninja_Tino #2 2 years ago

Kate was pretty fit so if she's bundled with it it's a much purchase. Then again, all the money Kenect will cost, going down to Soho seems more economic.

Something that can change the world?

Are they going to hand out copies of the game to chav mothers when the 'ovary removal for the morally bankrupt' drive starts?

I wish he would give a bit more away as for now it still looks to me like a pet boy simulator. not quite the family fun of eyepet or kinetimals

I guess it's like the religion thing - sure God could show up and prove to us all he exists and make believers out of us all, but to do so would be missing the point?

Just because no one has actually seen Milo and Kate running (or even interact with it outside of very controlled situations) and doing all those marvellous things - miracles if you will - it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, either as a game or a tech demo...

    ;)

    @Ninja_Tino

Kate wasn't shown in the demo - I think you're thinking of "Claire". Kate will be a girl version of Milo (and about his age too)

ha ha, ha ha................. brilliant, ha ha.. he should do a comedy tour...

So basically Peter is saying that he hasn't show this huge game he's developing for MS to an important MS bod, for like, a year? Yeah, that's likely.

Molyneux is such a bullshitter. Has he actually delivered on any promise in its original form, ever?

My work colleague's wife works at Lionhead, I might ask if she can twat Peter for me.

If the real world was more like Fable, Molyneux would be sporting quite the pinocchio nose by now.
  • gnrlstuart #11 2 years ago

    @zuluhero

well as a devout atheist, seeing those updated tech specs i doubt milo is possible, there really isnt much you can do with kinect...

    todays news: "Molyneux says words."

    Well surprise sur-fuckin-prise.

Together we can change the world... make it a better place... turn dreams into reality... by pestering small children to tell us what colour t-shirt we are wearing

Molyneux comes across as quite a nice chap. This is bullshit though. I mean, is he really saying that a top MS bod hasn't seen what looked a very promising Natal game for over a year? If that doesn't confirm it was smoke and mirrors then I don't know what else does.

Anyway, isn't Molynuex busy with Fable 3? I doubt he's working on Milo and Fake at the same time.
  • Machetazo #15 2 years ago

well, sfp, that same MS "top bod" has been prompted in to reaction by a tweeted photo of four people in a work space for fifty.
  • Retro_ #16 2 years ago

God news must be quiet today. Milo may work but it sure as shit didn't at last years E3 without some button pushing. Of course, you'll have to ignore Milo's plea to sit down otherwise he'll think you've turned into a sofa person and have nightmares for a few day cycles.

How we adore you Pete, make that change pete, he is the man in the mirror.

Someone like Peter Molyneux working within the massive Microsoft corporate structure must be very difficult. I believe Lionhead is capable of making this a real stunner. But again if the game is virtual pet (turned child) I don't know how many people will get it until they play it.

I think we need to see an update before people get behind this.

"Kate wasn't shown in the demo - I think you're thinking of "Claire". Kate will be a girl version of Milo (and about his age too)"

Wrong, Kate is Milo's dog. Molyneux said so in a previous interview here on Eurogamer.
  • Ninja_Tino #20 2 years ago

Oohhhh yeah, her name was Claire, wasn't it? So I get no physical person with it. No buy!
  • ZuluHero #21 2 years ago

Whatever. My point was that the girl interacting with Milo in the video wasn't "Kate". Apologies if i mislead anyone! :)
  • Doctor_What #22 2 years ago

Yes Peter you can change the world. With a 360 game. Honest. Yes, you really can.

/sends Peter back to his padded room.

Maybe it is just me but:

"Poor Aaron Greenberg - he's on the PR team, he hasn't seen it since last year, so he came up with this stock answer that Milo is alive and well and living in Guildford but it's still a tech demo.

"I feel sorry for him, he hasn't seen the game since last year. If I had spent time with him and showed him the game recently, he'd know what was going on. "

Is one of the most patronising things I have heard from anyone this year.
  • Rubarack #24 2 years ago

Is it me, or has someone taken Molyneux off his medication? "I feel sorry for him, he hasn't seen the game since last year" sounds an awful lot like the stuff he was spouting in the runup to Fable's release.

Counter Strike: Milo the Crate... sorry that was a terrible pun :(

Moylneux in the "change the world" shocker. Luckily this guy doesn't have a long track record of promising the earth and delivering SFA.
  • alcides #30 2 years ago

He talks of Greenberg as one would of their Alzheimer's-stricken grandma! Patronizing, caring yet somewhat exasperated. Poor old dear.

That's some bitchin' or I see wrong where there isn't.

Yep, and for people who can read between the lines it means, "Don't talk about shit you know nothing about". Might not be obvious but you can tell old Pete was pissed. You can believe Greenberg received a very happy email from Pete after his comments.

Interesting enough, I have a boss that acts just like Pete. When he talks like that, watch out because it's his nice way of saying you screwed up and prepare to find yourself another job.

    Oh.

Yay for creepy virtual children that want you to waggle your appendages about to make them do things?

"All that technology that we showed at E3 last year actually does work,"...in Peter Molyneux's MIND!
  • onyxbox #34 2 years ago

Like many here; I believe the 'Real Boy' simulator was all smoke and mirrors but I don't mind if it's to demonstrate a concept... The really shocking thing was how the press spent days after the event lapping it up and spouting thing like "it really works and you can chat to him and everything!"

It was the press IMO that should have gone "hang on a minute" and realised that what they think they saw was probably not the whole picture.

I'm sorry but this would be a game for peado's. What are you thinking molyneux
  • Dave52 #36 2 years ago

I'm thinking this will be a bit like a Tamagotchi... After Milo's died three or four times, because we haven't fed him, played with him, or cleared up his shit, we'll all go back to playing BFBC2.

Let's face it, only lonely women with too many cats will want anything to do with Milo, and they're not exactly the 360 target audience.

"All that technology that we showed at E3 last year actually does work," he promised.

    Same old Pete :D
