ModNation Racers Euro beta in 2010

US equivalent begins this month.

Sony has announced that the European beta for ModNation Racers will take place during a couple of weeks in "early 2010", offering "exclusive European content".

The announcement on the European PlayStation blog comes as US gamers are promised a beta running from 18th December this year until 10th January.

ModNation Racers is a PS3-exclusive racing game where you can build your own tracks and customise your own cars, then share the lot online with friends.

If that all sounds a bit LittleBigPlanet, that's because it's being billed by Sony as the latest in the loose family of "Play Create Share" titles for which Sackboy is the poster-child.

Check out our ModNation Racers hands-on preview from gamescom to see roughly what to expect.

I like the idea of this... maybe a console version of Trackmania?

Speak of the devil, eh? I was just asking about this yesterday.

My most anticipated game on 2010. Can't wait to see some people version of the Top Gear Test Track and nordschleife.

Can you race as Sackboy? If you can't then that's one hell of a missed opportunity!

Looking forward to this - may not offer the depth and possibilities of LBP, but sounds like a lot of fun :)

MM are busy making LBP Wand compatible i bet. Not to mention the water add-on and any extra content we don't know about. As much as i'd enjoy a sequel i think it'd just go against the grain of the whole point of the game.

I wouldn't mind seeing my sackboy/a sackboy in the game but it wouldn't be the end of the world if it wasn't. there needs to be a clear distinction that this isn't LBP: Race Edition.

This is one of my "Most Wanted" for next year, though I barely scratched the surface of LittleBigPlanet I love what it stands for and had a blast playing through it and seeing what other people came up with, love the musical levels people have created in LBP.

Mod Nation Racers looks like the same ideals translated into the now dead Kart Racing genre, it still has pickups for things like boost and missiles but as long as they're reasonably balanced and not like Mario Kart then this will be a winner. Don't forget that with the track editor there will be a plethora of tracks without any bonus pickups at all.

Can't wait to see people's own recreations of things like Top Gear Test Track, Donington, Silverston, Monaco etc. What I'm really hoping for though is that the track creator allows us to make point to point rally style races in addition to regular circuits, just think of the extra variety in tracks that would give.

He owns 50 cent - blood on the sand dude. He's obviously a man of taste and a real hard nut. I'd back away slowly.... :-)

This has the potential to be a bloody good game. I was impressed with the LBP level designer usability (in all honesty I didn't think that it would that well without a mouse) and as long as the designer is in the same league, and the netcode is nippy, I think they could be onto a real winner.

The key thing here is that it will be alot of fun..my kids love LBP, they are still playing it and making crazy levels, so i will probably get this for the kids, and force myself to play :D

Can't wait for this. The creation tools look a little simpler than LBP's, and as long as they get stuff like the handling and power-ups right this could be a great game.

It does look simpler but it also seems less in depth. I don't see the huge variation in levels compared to LBP. Still looking forward to this though.
