Microsoft working on Halo Encyclopedia News

Xbox Xbox 360 News by Ellie Gibson

15 April, 2009

Book publisher Dorling Kindersley has signed a deal to produce the officially licensed Halo Encyclopedia.

The book will be a comprehensive guide to the Halo universe. It'll cover characters, weapons, vehicles and equipment featured in all the games, plus forthcoming expansion Halo 3: ODST.

Microsoft is collaborating on the book and development director Frank O'Connor will write the foreword. A whole 352 pages are promised, all in full colour. Good news, Continental Europeans - it'll be published in "many territories and in foreign languages".

DK exec Alex Allan is jolly excited: "Halo has always fascinated the creative team at DK, many of whom are avid gamers, and we had the full support of Halo’s very experienced team to create this spectacular book," he said.

The Halo Encyclopedia will be released in November.

I know most people won't care, but I love these things. Whether it be a tech manual for the Enterprise D or a Star Wars A-Z, I do like reading about stuff like that.

Yea there is a market for stuff like that. Personally I am not into it but based on the big amounts of "Geeky" Encyclopedia you can find in Forbidden Planet ;) I guess it will be good reading material for cosplayers and people who like to build stuff... and maybe Halo tabletop wargamers ;)

Sort of like what Konami released for MGS4 but for free and in physical format?

Yet halo.wikia.com will remain more up to date, more nerdy (it will undoubtedly cite this book as a reference on every page) and FREE!

Could be good. As DFawkes said, it could be something worth reading.

Nothing will ever come close to Star Wars Chronicles though. They're something special.

Could be a very nice guide to the franchise. Of course, halo.wikia will remain up to date when ODST and any Halo Wars sequels come out ;)

Yeah, it and the Gears of War wikis are terrifying in their detail. At least they've saved us the trouble/agony of reading the Halo/Gears novels...

I used to be really into the Halo story, and then I looked too hard at it.
