E3: New Metal Gear confirmed for 360

Kojima burns down the rumour mill.

Hideo Kojima has popped up on the Microsoft E3 conference stage, totally "honoured" to be there "at last", to unveil Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

Kojima didn't say whether the game would appear on more than one system, or when it will be released. In a press release after the conference, Konami made no mention of a PS3 version, and a spokesperson wouldn't comment.

Kojima did say, however, that there will be no Solid Snake. Instead, players will control cyborg Raiden, sneaking around in the moody fields teased on Kojima Productions' website over the last few weeks.

Work is already under way on the game, and we're expecting to hear more on it later in the week - with Konami's press conference at 3pm PST / 11pm BST on Wednesday.

"We can finally say our platform is complete," was Xbox boss Don Mattrick's verdict.

    Hang on...I wonder if Raiden is for 360, and Big Boss is for PS3.

    And will the PSP version be...

    If it's away from the main story arc maybe it'll have a lot less cut scenes..maybe!

    Disappointing that you don't get to play as Big Boss. Still they did man Raiden up quite a bit in the fourth game. With a bit of luck the teaser site will have some pics or early footage when it hits zero.

    meh... the 4th really did show the age of the franchise so kojima will have a lot to improve for me to be bothered. would've preferred ZOE.

    This is the same game Famitsu PS3/PSP showed in their latest issue in Japan isn't it? What's the other Mask game from Kojima Productions?

    I'm kind of disappointed to be honest as I was really hoping for a 360 port of MGS4. I couldn't give a toss about MGS5 and Raiden.

    On a lighter note, did anybody catch Don Mattrick saying metal gear solid the wrong way in front of kojima. He called it metal guild solid ffs. It had me in stitches.

    Interesting reveal. I think it's fair. The main MGS series should be Sony exclusives but a Raiden (cyborg version no less) spin-off would be a great exclusive for the 360.

    A lot of XBox owners want MGS4 because then they get to say "up yours" to the PS3 crowd. The problem is that MGS4 is boring and not a very good game, when compared to what's already out there. People always want what they can't have. In this case though, when/if they get it, the saying be careful what you wish for will apply in full effect.

    I for one an very glad Kojima decided not to port MGS4. I suspect that he wasn't to thrilled with how it turned out either!

    If its not got Solid Snake in it, why is it called Metal Gear Soild? I like Snake AND Raiden, but i found it annoying with portable ops and MGS 3 that Solid Snake wasnt even mentioned in them (having not been born yet) and yet the title is still Metal Gear SOLID.

    I know its about brand recognition, but who is going to hear, say, Metal Gear Raiden, and not make the connection?

    I didn't want MGS4 on 360 just so I could say 'up yours' to the PS3 owners. It is just that MGS1, 2 and 3 were some of my favourite games.

    Solid Snake is one of my favourite game characters and I want to see how his story ends in MGS4 but alas I don't have PS3, I opted for a 360 this gen.

    Metal Gear Solid is one thing. Solid Snake is another. Why cant the two entities share the "solid" name ?
    check this out... Metal Gear is Solid because its a metal and hard structure(robot).
    Snake(the character) is solid because he is a very good agent that performs solidly and consistently. I hope this helps clarify things and Konami updates its mg database with my new found knowledge

    Is MGS: Rising 360 exclusive?

    I'm just wondering since they didn't use the word "exclusive" at all when they announced it.

    Honestly, do you think if this was exclusive they wouldn't have loudly and clearly said so?

    I suspect if Kojima is being tight-lipped he's only doing so under orders from Sony until after their keynote tomorrow.

    Oh, and thankfully this should finally put to rest any and all speculation about whether MGS4 is going to go multi-plat. :D

    I've not meh'd 4 to be honest (ye can always check my posts), but it's getting the big fat meh's here, and i find it all rather enjoyable to watch to be perfectly frank.

    Yeah, the press release has come out, MGS is sitting in the non-exclusive section along with FFXIII.

    I'd be shocked if this wasn't on the PS3 as well as it fell outside of the 10 exclusives MS showed and they didn't have a big display about it being only on 360.

    Big fan of MGS so even if it only is a 360 exclusive I'd buy a 360 as they are quite cheap.

    Also Kojima said a while back that because of financial reasons his next game would most likely be multi platform so there was probably very little Sony could do about this considering they don't own Konami or be in the position to hand them millions only to make games for the PS3.

    The tagline is 'Lightning Bolt Action' not 'Tactical Espionage Action' so it might be a more action based game. Either way, new Metal Gear is good news.

    He probably thinks this because:

    1 - Raiden is agile,
    2 - Raiden is fast,
    3 - Raiden carries a sword,
    4 - almost every cutscene he participated in in MGS4 was an action scene.

    I'd play "Raiden May Cry"...

    ... hmmmm...

    ...Maybe I already did, actually. :)

    My thoughts also :)

    Will be interesting to see Sony's event tomorrow. At least one new MGS game for PSP... maybe MGS:R for PS3 then.

    with no menu management. That would be nice. I got fed up of the continual changing of people. It was as bad as camo management in MGS3.

    Wow, this is huge news. 360 owners are now going to be able to get in on the MGS action. This one seems like it is going to be interesting for some reason.

    Yes he is. Extremely gay. Personally MGS2 was a big disappointment because of the switch to carebear and I can't take Raiden seriously as a character now after that downright idiotic scene from MGS4. You all know the one, they nicked it from Holy Grail...

    Excellent news! MGS4 was an absolute masterpiece and considering I haven't plugged in my PS3 since I completed it for the 5th time, it's great that the next one is coming to 360

    Plus I liked Raiden in MGS2 and thought he was the best character in MGS4 so this is fucking quality!

    Considering the fact that the guy said "EVERYTHING you see from now on is only on Xbox 360" and the Rising bit was after that, it's at least a timed exclusive.

    I want more cut scenes that are longer! and everyone who has bitched about cut scenes and MGS4, go get aids cuz every single MGS has been 10/10. Its a fucking interactive movie, infact fuck you all, im playing through all four this week(end).
