Mega Man 9 confirmed for WiiWare News

News by Tom Bramwell

27 June, 2008

Capcom has confirmed that Mega Man 9 is on its way to WiiWare, and there's speculation that it will visit other formats too.

The US Nintendo Power magazine reveals this month (thanks 1UP) that it will be a 2D game inspired by the NES originals, in which a bunch of robots are making a mess and Mega Man has to save the day.

This he will do by tackling them one by one - and they are Magma Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Concrete man, Hornet Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man and Splash Woman.

Control will be by holding the Wiimote sideways like a NES pad, and there's rumours of other playable characters (series boss Keiji Inafune said "wait and see").

Another strong rumour is that the game will also appear on other formats. Capcom is doing a lot with Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, the publisher's vice-president of strategic planning, Christian Svensson, said on the official forums that there's "More to be learned later", and the Australian ratings board lists it as multiformat.

Hopefully we'll learn more at E3.

Nice, I've just started going through the originals on Virtual Console, nice to see it's back with the core series and not Mega Man X2Zero Vs Rocco McSpuffers Alpha 40k.

I'm curious about Splash Woman. Did Wily finally figure out how to build breasts?

This is great!
It hasn't been mentioned here, but there's also a new Adventure Island done in the old style coming to WiiWare! I hope we'll get to see more of these new retro games.

Which he now presumably uses to 'splash' on, as he calls it.

A purpose Sock Man used to serve, I gather.
