Live Club demo tomorrow

Lots of chocolate on it.

SEGA has said it will furnish Live Marketplace with The Club demo tomorrow.

This juicy sampler will let you rampage around a Federal Penitentiary as gruff cop Renwick, whose investigations into the seedy organisation lead him right into the thick of it.

Sprint and Time Attack modes are both up for grabs, and you will be able to split your screen like a banana to fight with friends.

The Club is being created by Project Gotham Racing brainbox Bizarre Creations. Its premise is based around a throng of rich people who make wildly over the top characters fight to the death for their gambling pleasure.

There's plenty of exaggerated shooting action to be done, and the overall effect is one we described as such awesome fun it left our hearts pounding and our hands as clammy as a pervert's.

The full version is due out for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on 8th February, and PSN goers can already get their hands on this very demo.

Hope it controls better in the 360 demo than it did on the ps3 sixaxis.

I really like the demo on PSN - a fun mix of shooting, racing and puzzle genres and a title I will buy for sure. Just curious how it will work online though...

The PSN demo is slightly different but only in one regard : you play as some gruff russian guy (Dragov?), not whoever this Renwick fella is.

Oh, and the controller isn't as good...

    /runs

hope the demo plays better than the recent footage - that looked like 3rd person shooter wack a mole
  • haubitzer #13 4 years ago

If only shooting someone felt as juicy and reactive in the Club as its focus seems to dictate it should.

The PS3 demo of the Challenge mode was fun but very shallow so I can't decide whether to buy it or not, it is after all just another third person shooter albeit more arcade orientated. I'm going to wait for the reviews I think. Graphics looked nice and smooth though, you can always rely on Bizarre Creations to make technically accomplished games and they've delivered on the "problematic" PS3. Looking forward to seeing it on the 360 if only to try it with a slightly better (IMO) controller. Oddly the PS3 version's rumble effects only kick in when you're hit, you don't feel any recoil from the weapons themselves which is disappointing.

Is it the same demo? I'd love to try it out with a slightly faster character. He controlled like a bipedal vehicle.

Given the discussion over the PS3 demo it seems like a classic Marmite experience. I didn't get it, but only tried it once.
  • Rash' #17 4 years ago

Played the demo once. It was ok. Didn't inspire a second try. Probably didn't get it. Edge reckon it's all about the scoring set up. May give it another go to night. Wasn't particularly impressed with the graphics. Hardly pushing the next gen boat are they ?

After the fun of Uncharted this seemed pretty average. Had hints of the Running Man about it but it just lacked something. After Gears / GRAW / Rainbow 6 the duck + cover, lean against something gameplay is now standard. The Club just seemed average. Maybe the finished article will be a different prospect, but so far the demo left me a tad indifferent.
  • magicpocket #20 4 years ago

FlamingCarrot - you want 'standard' games? You dont like innovation? You dont like difference?

    ignore poster me thinks.

It's Unreal Tournament meets Tony Hawks meets PGR

    Sweet :)

i played the ps3 version and it seemed ok... very polished technically and I can see the MP being fun... not sure if it's enough tho'

i'm also glad to see bizzare going multi platform and having the skill to pump out a solid / smooth and no tearing framrate on ps3
  • muscleblade #23 4 years ago

Since i like fast paced games i might like this. Many good games coming out in Q1 so i have to carefully choose the right ones to invest my little spare time in.

"i'm also glad to see bizzare going multi platform and having the skill to pump out a solid / smooth and no tearing framrate on ps3"

    I agree ... a very competent and polished multi-platform title IMO :)

Will try the 360 demo tonight to compare, but I seriously doubt it will be better/worse than the PS3 version technically.

Have anybody here compared the two versions ?

Played the 360 demo earlier, after the first go I thought ''Well that was a mighty load of shit'' and left it at that. But then something happened, my mate come over just now and we had another bash, with both of us trying to top the other's score it led to playing the demo getting mightily competitive, and all of a sudden there was a massive ''Just one more go'' factor arising, that I didn't feel when having a go on my own.
To sum that nonsense up, as a solo player experience it was a little dull, but with mates around and all those scoreboards linked up over live, I think it could be a whole lot of fun.
And it's definitely worth playing more than once, I needed a good 5 attempts before I'ds got the hang of the aiming and controls.

"It's Unreal Tournament meets Tony Hawks meets PGR"

Exactly, even if this game doesn't turn out to be perfect, you have to give credit for them trying something like this, it's better than yet another FPS.

IMO from the demo things could be a little better, like how your guy moves, but it's still great fun and i can't wait to try other levels and game modes when it comes out.

It's 'ok' i guess. I didn't not like the demo, but i certainly didn't think 'wow i've got to get this!' I can se that with multiplayer it would be a lot better, but the single player is boring and is going to get canned by everyone!

As for bringing racing game structure to shooters? There's nothing here that haasn't been done before somewhere - in fact the only 'new' thing i can think of is the signs to shoot, and that ain't exactly new!!

The one thing that would of brought a racing aspect to the game would be exactly that - make it a race! instead of one guy going round shooting everyone and getting a score before the exit, how about 6 or 7 competitors (either human or AI) all shooting everyone at the same time? More incentive to be quick, good, and more importantly to be first!!!
