God of War will continue after III

But will Kratos live on?

God of War III may end a trilogy, but Sony Santa Monica's not putting the series to bed.

"This is not the end of God of War," John Hight, studio bigwig, stated to Gamervision (via G4TV). "This is definitely the end of the trilogy, but we're [going to] continue to do God of War games.

"We're [going to] be very careful about what we do. We're the keepers of the franchise and we don't want to see it ruined or polluted."

A new God of War instalment may take a new tack and perhaps Kratos has seen his last outing - although what's left to plunder of Greek mythology we're not sure, as even world-shaping Titans are not safe from the Blades of Chaos.

God of War III, a PS3 exclusive, will be released in Europe in March. A specific date is yet to be announced.

By the end of GOW 3 Kratos will have nothing left to kill, time to call it a day imo, great games and it will be nice to see the series go out on a high.

It will be interesting to see how a new character would fare, would he/she/it be accepted by the legions of Kratos fans out there?

Wasn't the GOW III storyline meant to explain why there are no more Greek myths?
  • galerian86 #3 2 years ago

    God of War... IN SPACE!!!
  • stevethemeat #4 2 years ago

Perhaps they could move onto Norse mythology, create a Viking anti hero, have him fight against Thor, Odin, Loki and the Frost giants.
  • metalgearsolid4rox #5 2 years ago

Well, the series is based on Greek mythology... but they could easily make a God of War game with Norse or Egyptian mythology, Change the colour of Kratos's tattoos from red to black/blue and call him "Kratius" or "Krator" or something.

    Edit : And include a foursome mini-game...

They always do this, don't they?

Why do so many games get announced as "trilogies" at the outset? Seems pointless, cos they either tank aftr one game and never make the other two (hello... Too Human) or they finish on high after the third and need to keep making more (say hi, Halo)!

Mario, Zelda, Metroid... these masterpieces didn't get announced as "trilogies" - they just made the fucking games, end of story!

    More of that, please...

I guess, it would be cool to see different mythologys used. Maybe Kratos could still play a part, as the origin of a different mythology and he becomes the final boss in one of those games.
  • mungolikebeans #8 2 years ago

It'll probably be a prequel. When Kratos was at school he was a right troublemaker. It'll be like Bully but much more bloody.....and more Greek lessons.

I'd love to see a fully-fleshed out God of War game based on Norse mythology, set in the Viking Age. Something like the sacking of Lindisfarne in full-on GoW III-style opulence could be magnificent.

As an aside, I actually wouldn't mind if GoW III was delayed a month or so. Late February and into March is going to be a very busy time for PS3 owners with Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy XIII, along with a whole bag of other multiformat releases. Spreading things out a little would seem to make sense both for Sony and for gamers.

and i hope it will be in form of a GoW 4 on the PS4. GoW is one of the highest quality franchises out there, but if they start this annual bullshit it's gonna go down the drain really quickly.

Kratos will not be pleased. And you know that means trouble.

Have a new game where Kratos declares war on the scientologists, Kratos has to find a way to shrink down to 5 foot tall to fight the final boss Tom Cruise.
  • myiagros #12 2 years ago

They could explore the thing with Kratos and his brother, as suggested in the video's unlocked after the original God Of War.

Personaly i think it would be interesting to see them play out his adventures as a captain of the spartan army before making a deal with Ares.
It could become some sort of mash up with god of war, dynasty warriors & the total war series.

As long as it's as good as GOW 1-3 but slightly better with new stuff, then i'm happy.

Hey, why not set in during the Renaissance?
  • metalgearsolid4rox #17 2 years ago

    Renaissance ? Mythology ?
Judging by the ending of GoW III, it won't happen...probably. My friend is working at Santa Monica Studios and he showed me all the cutscenes, heres how it goes......

Kratos (with a grey goatee and wrinkled skin) has killed all the gods except Zeus (who ran away) and is standing by his mother's grave. He salutes. He sticks one of his blades into his mouth. A slashing sound is heard.

Cut to a scene in Elysium. Kratos' wife and daughter get off the boat on the River Styx. Kratos' wife marries Jason/Perseus/Theseus, while his daughter runs off with some local kid (?) who speaks no Greek. She gives him a robot.

Back to Kratos. He's still alive. He didn't have the strength to kill himself. Suddenly, a figure appears. It's Chuck Norris, who reveals himself to be Kratos' true father. He moves to reveal Zeus in a wheelchair, about to die. He explains that the era of the Olympians is finally over, and the world is at peace. He disconnects Zeus' life support, and the King of Gods, the last of his kind, dies peacefully.

Chuck Norris then collapses on the ground. Kratos tries to save him, but he is going to die. He tells Kratos how proud he is, and his eyes shut.

Kratos leaves Greece and lives the rest of his life, plagued by accelerated aging in the island of Atlantis.

Yeah, make new stuff. After a while you just end up bolting on stuff to an existing franchise to keep it going... there will come a point where that won't work and it'll sour things.

God of Modern Warfare, 9 killstreak = flying flaming chariot, 25 killstreak = tactical wrath of zuess...

    God Of War Forever!
  • darkmorgado #21 2 years ago

What about Roman, Egyptian, Norse or even Christian mythology? Most religions and mythologies have a "God of War" figure (see Darksiders). They could switch to a different mythology, giving them all sorts of new beasties to plunder
  • trip919 #22 2 years ago

    @ cianchristopher

I, you’re right. I think Star Wars has a lot to answer for!
  • Widge #23 2 years ago

Quite, just ask the people playing Bayonetta.
  • Widge #24 2 years ago

  • Zaiz #25 2 years ago

    >.> I have a tremendous fear that they won't get the good idea to change mythologies, and instead make their own greek mythology. Or worse, World of God of War.

  • Triggerhappytel #26 2 years ago

I doubt this will be the last game to feature Kratos, even if this is the end of his story arc. We still have to battle his brother, as hinted at in the teaser video in GoW1, so I think subsequent games could be flashback-type scenarios, a la CoO.
  • Razorus #27 2 years ago

Make God of War games about other mythologies. I'd like to see them try their hand at Norse style. Vikings and their gods are badass. Or how about something different like Babylonian for a change? Not enough people know about that mythology. It's pretty frakking cool tbh. They could make a game about the Epic of Gilgamesh for example.
  • freakzilla #28 2 years ago

As much as I'd like some more god of war, its probably best to let Kratos have his vengeance and end the series on a high.

It would be a shame to throw away so much code and assets so maybe a similar game just NOT GOW.
  • freakzilla #29 2 years ago

Since so many people are talking about alternative myths to base a new game on I thought I'd chip in. I'm really curious about the great civilisations of south and Meso-America, they seem violent enough (cutting out the heart of a living person or skinning someone alive), but ultimately we just don't know enough about them.
  • davisorle #30 2 years ago

Im surely gonna enjoy this game. Isnt this the point though they started saying "Milk it some more" before the 3rd Halo comes out? lol I think ill go get my PS3 with this and U2.
  • georgepppo #31 1 year ago

when the god of war 3 ends shows kratos kill him self with the blade of olympus, and then it shows credits and after they finish the blood tha on the flor shows that he jumped down.
