GameStation offers gold Gears 2 gun

Pre-order deal costs 130 quid.

UK retailer GameStation has begun taking pre-orders for a Gears of War 2 bundle featuring a replica Gold Lancer Assault Rifle. And it could be yours for a meagre GBP 129.99. Peanuts.

The gold-painted plastic gun is the same model Epic announced was selling like "hot cakes" on Amazon back in August.

In detail: 36-inches in size, weighs 5kg, vibrates and makes a chainsaw noise when three C-size batteries are put in.

The GameStation deal also includes a Limited Edition copy of Gears of War 2.

This contains a 48-page hardback book of art introduced by Cliff Bleszinski, a 'Making Of' DVD, a Dom and Maria keepsake photo, a tin case and an Xbox Live code to unlock a gold-plated Lancer gun in Gears of War 2.

Gears of War 2 is due out exclusively for Xbox 360 on 7th November.

You know, I'm usually the biggest sucker for this kind of stuff, but £130? I think I'll pass on this one.
Unless 'er indoors gets it as a Xmas pressie for me.

"a Dom and Maria keepsake photo"

    LMAO

  • Razz #3 3 years ago

Why on earth is it gold plated? :(
  • Ninja_Tino #4 3 years ago

Yeah, the gold plating sounds horrible and pointless.
  • Monkey_Puncher #5 3 years ago

If it was gold plated then the price would be understandable, but Cliffy B has only gone and sprayed them with some gold paint. Anyone who buys this has either got more money than sense, or is quite simply insane.
  • andywilkie35 #6 3 years ago

This sounds like a great thing to show your friends!

I do however suspect that people who go for this are the people lacking in friends...*pities the poor souls*
  • kangarootoo #7 3 years ago

Gold < silver or platinum or titanium.

    Gold = gaudy.

Of course this all falls by the wayside when you realise that a big plastic gun with a chainsaw on it is the dictionary DEFINITION of gaudy.
  • Lebowski #8 3 years ago

I think it's gold-plated because replica guns are allowed to look real any more.

No-one is going to be fazed / hoodwinked by a golden gun; unless, that is, they're on a private island and a bloke with three nipples is pointing it.
  • rotmm #9 3 years ago

    Lame. Or Lamé?

    Not sure.
  • snafu65 #10 3 years ago

Nice try Gamestation but I think I'll give this one a miss if thats ok,£130 for a plastic toy gun, pull the other one.Probably cost about 130p to manufacture.

"I think it's gold-plated because replica guns are allowed to look real any more"

I'm pretty sure that gun doesn't look real, regardless of its colour.

Anyway, real guns can be gold (and they look tacky too).

Even Francisco Scaramanga would baulk at that price.
  • Inquisitor #13 3 years ago

Not that I'd have got this anyway but gold? Really? Come on, that's just ridiculous, as if anyone is stupid enough to be fooled by a gun with a chainsaw anyway, the gold seems a pointless addition.

Complete rip off too I might add, the Halo 3 crazy helmet edition was around £80, I'd have thought this would be at least approaching that price.

The lancer is gold plated for a reason

You will be able to unlock a gold lancer in game when it ships on the 7th November

However I agree that £130 pounds is too steep, I was duped into buying the legendary edition of Gaylo Tree (Halo 3) last christmas.

All I ended up was a huge green plastic dust magnet and a legendary dvd that had standard definition videos on it

Hello MS this is the HD ERA you been touting about

WTF do you think your doing

Got rid of that game sharpish

  • captainrentboy #15 3 years ago

''36-inches in size, weighs 5kg, vibrates and is painted Gold''
    Sounds like my Penis...

This is an absolutely terrible price, I thought it was Gold plated, not fackin' painted. What a bloody rip off, surely only the biggest of twats would fork out that much.
  • Darren #16 3 years ago

@bluem4gic - The Halo 3 Collector's Edition was also pretty shite IMO. I traded it in (complete with scratched DVDs) some months back. I also got rid of the similarly disappointing Gears of Wars Collector's Edition too. I now just own the standard editions of the games.

I've vowed since then to only buy collector's editions if they have a quality tin case (a la Soulcalibur IV, Devil May Cry 4, Stranglehold and BioShock) as the other stuff is superfluous to say the least. And the bonus DVDs are 99.9% of the time a complete waste of time too given the poor quality and shortness of them. It's like what DVD extras were like a decade ago!

And there's no way I'd pay £130 for this... a waste of money IMO unless you're the sort of person who plays Gears of War 24/7 and thinks it's the best thing ever, ever, EVER! LOL
  • miiiguel #17 3 years ago

Well, I have Halo's helmet and I like it - memorabilia of life. Anyway, I don't have the need to sell me stuff (I never ever do it), due to how life went so far, I have plenty of money.
I wont get this though, not a particular big fan of the IP, have the "normal/special" edition on pre-order.
  • NickJC1 #18 3 years ago

You're not a fan of the IP yet you pre ordered the game?.

Well Fuck me, tha'ts the most stupid thing I've read here since Saints row 2 getting 9/10

This probably sounds weird but these are a total ripoff. You can get good airsoft guns for less. There's a G&G M4A1 on Airsoft Scotland for £100 and G&G is one of the large, high quality Taiwanese makers. Course they are much harder to buy now with the legislation.

I know they are going for a whole prop replica idea, kinda like movie swords but this looks very cheap and plastic for the money. It's kind of like someone charging you £200 for a Nintendo 64 today.
  • thedaveeyres #27 3 years ago

What kind of idiot buys this tat?

    The gun looks cool though.
  • Gearskin #28 3 years ago

I'd buy it if it wasn't gold.
  • Godz_Mercenary #29 3 years ago

Begun taking pre-orders for it? The guns been advertised and they've taken pre-orders for it for like two months, maybe longer.
  • penhalion #30 3 years ago

Excellent. Now I'll be able to identify the prats who spent 130 quid in-game. Should be good for a right old laugh.
  • PearOfAnguish #31 3 years ago

  • waggy79 #32 3 years ago

I preferred their offer of a splatterhead locust and cog tag free with the ltd edition but alas they're sold out.
  • t8yman #33 3 years ago

oh how we can all laugh if we see someone in-game with a gold gun. epic fail. literally
  • sco0504 #34 3 years ago

£90 for a toy gun? A bit of a rip off if you ask me.
  • CB.Gamestation #35 3 years ago

    To those who don't know.
The replica Lancer is (as far as we have been told) 18k Gold plated, not painted.
IIRC the black version sold on Amazon for around £100, so gold plated version + £50 limited edition of the game sounds like a bargain.
I'm not getting it myself, but it does look awesome.
Maybe those slating it are those that can't afford it ;)

The saddest thing about this though is someone is actually going to buy it at that price.

I would consider it if it was say £70 but they can fuck off at that price.

£70 quid in US in black

"Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski poses with the replica on Amazon, maybe in an attempt to distract from the USD 139.99 (GBP 70) asking price"

Mind boggles at what he would have to do distract from the £130 price tag.

I'm almost ashamed to say I would've been sold on this had it not been gold, I don't care if it's real gold or not it just looks god awful, I mean a reasonably detailed cheap looking plastic gun replica is one thing, but to then make it look cheaper by making it gold is just retarded.
  • Peew971 #42 3 years ago

I know it's lame but if it was the original gun, non gold-plated, sold on Amazon US, I would be interesteded. This one sounds crap.
  • penhalion #43 3 years ago

    @CB.Gamestation

There's a recession on and you can't trust banks with your money. No-one knows is they'll have a job tomorrow so er yea people can't afford to waste 130 quid on a gold plated plastic gun.

Seriously. This is earth and I'm not convinced you are a resident.
  • WillyWanka #44 3 years ago

I don't think any self-respecting gamer should buy anything from Game/Gamestation ever again after the utter cunt who runs the place decided to buy up all the cheap 360s and Wiis from Sainsbury's the other day to stop the rest of us getting a deal ...

what game / gamestation wasn't illegal, but it should be, because no matter how they try to paint it, it was a selfish act designed to excluse the customer from a bargin...

don't buy any games from either of these shops anymore.. it's all online for me now...

Hope that big american comapny comes over here and puts them out of business... ;)

Oooor, maybe they bought them up because Sainsbury's were selling them for waaay under their trade buy in prices, (More fool Sainsbury's and their silly ongoing price wars) and therefore Game could actually make a worthwhile profit from each of them they then sold. You don't become a leading retailer by missing out on opportunities like that.
And of course you're aware that any clever indie store owner does this type of thing week in week out, especially when it comes to supermarket priced new release software.
Anyways, any self respecting gamer, bargain hunter or e-bay seller would have been there to get a cheapo one early.
  • CB.Gamestation #54 3 years ago

"Hope that big american comapny comes over here and puts them out of business... ;)"

If you're on about Gamestop they actually want to buy the GAME group plc. not open up competing shops...

I have a hunch that the reason it was done was because the Sainsbury's price was lower than the trade cost they were currently getting....
    besides...
the consoles were mainly old 20GB version (of which my friend's had someone else's profile on it, hence they were returned stock :D)
