Free Mercs 2 DLC on Live today

Blow It Up Again offers new modes.

Pandemic has released a free content update for Mercenaries 2 today, featuring four new gameplay modes - "Urban Rampage, Death Race, Arms Race and Mercs Blitz", according to an admin post on the official forum - and some "patriotic characters".

We're not really sure what any of that means. You can watch a trailer that might explain things, but it's mostly heavy metal music and things exploding. The content pack is called Blow It Up Again.

Or you could ask a PS3 owner - Sony's machine got the DLC update last Friday. There's no mention of it being made available to PC Mercs 2 players.

Note that the pack is "free throughout the rest of the year", meaning Pandemic could choose to charge for it or remove it soon, so grab it while you can.

Excellent news - I was hoping something would take me back to Merc 2

I know its not everyones cup of tea, but I thought it was a fantastic game - despite it's flaws.

    mucho funo

You know what confuses me most about Mercs 2? When you complete it and see the credits there are about a hundred QA testers! WTF? Were they all blind or something?

This game has more bugs in it than a bee hive.

    Still great fun though.

    @bobsuncle

You can't always blame the QA testers! Having been one myself, all we do is list the problems.

There are a number of factors to take into consideration before something gets fixed,
    1) Can it be fixed?
    2) Do time constraints allow it to be fixed?
    3) Did the designer want it that way?

Plus many many more! Yes, its frustrating, but at the end of the day, it might not be the QA testers' fault, trust me ;)

yeah guess its all about whether or not they can fix the bugs in time, there probably are some issues that they would miss, but nothing as obvious as most of the stuff in Mercs 2

looking forward to trying out the DLC, but leant my copy of the game to someone

That's quite crafty, making it a free download for a limited period. It will prompt some people who have been waiting to buy it second-hand to buy it now for fear of missing out.

Won't work though. I'd still rather play the original for £20 less.

    @Lankysi

I know what goes into fixing bugs, I'm a programmer (although not games anymore). Which is why I was so shocked at how bad some of them are!

I remember sitting there screaming at the TV sometimes shouting "YOU GOT FUCKING MONKEYS TO CODE THIS!". No offence to any Pandemic employees intended.

"I'd still rather play the original for £20 less."

This one was only £20 on Play last time I looked.

the whole game should be free . In fact we should be paid for play-testing it .

Out of interest, what bugs did people see? Here's my list:

    1) Stuck/Spinning helicopters
    2) Clipping - falling through the floor.
    3) Buttons stopping working. I was in the PMC and the buttons stopped responding, so I couldn't press Y to get out.
    4) Zoom stopped zooming towards the end of the game, (sniper and binos) randomly started working again.
    5) Complete lockups. Even the Xbox guide button didn't respond.
    6) Being in a vehicle which explodes near a friendly, then getting shot for it (not really a bug, just shit).
    7) Whinching challenge minimum bet higher than max bet (classed as an exploit glitch on forums).
    8) Toolbox exploit after collecting 30 - 35 (not had this, only heard of it)
    9) Achievement not unlocking (AN max friendlyness)
    10) Sliding down hills for ages when knocked down. The character won't get up until you come to a complete stop!
    11) Placing pickups too close to buildings for a helicopter to collect (shit design really).

There must have been others too...

I might be wrong (probably am), but I believe it's an update for PS3, but much like Burout Bikes it's too large for the XBL limit, so it'll be released as DLC instead. But I'll know once I've updated my PS3 version.
EDIT: Nope, it's just a DLC preparation patch, like most games do.

I thought it was awesome until I bought Saints row 2! Good to see some free DLC though; no matter what the game!
