FF Tactics for iPhone in September

Conversion of superb PSP JRPG.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is heading to iPhone and iPod Touch on 15th September.

There's no price mentioned, but we're badgering Square Enix to find out.

War of the Lions was the subtitle given to the exemplary 2007 PSP remake of the original Final Fantasy Tactics game from 1997/8. Square Enix bettered its first effort in every way and went on to earn a whopping 9/10 here on Eurogamer.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions will gain unspecified new features for iPhone as well as the requisite touch-screen controls.

    Oh Yes!

    Please don't be a watered down version!

    Fantastic game. Great news for all interested iPhone owners.

    @brigadier

    I think I read somewhere it will be a port of the PSP version.

    Great news indeed! Wondering if there ll e upscaled versions for both iPad/iPhone 4? Probably not and the deep game still will plays wonderfully any which way.

    Is this the same game i played on my DS (or was it a GBA, my old man's memory is failing me) many years ago? I got it around the same time as Shining Force.

    It's all a blur. At lunch today none of us could remember when Magic Carpet came out :p

    FFT was a PS1 game that was never officially released in Europe if I remember correctly.

    Sold.

    Dunno if this has been reported on EG but Square are also bringin Secret of Mana to iPhone this year too.
  • mowgli #8 2 years ago

    But, the iPhone doesn't have any serious in depth games?

    Awesome news, can not wait!

    There always seemed to so much loading and slow down when performing actions in the PSP version which I guess was down to loading from the UMD, of course being all on flash memory in the iPhone should sort this out.

    I find the PSP versions loading/slow down even more annoying considering Disgaea: Afternoon of darkness/Dark hero days had none I could see.

    This would be great news if I hadn't bought it for the DS a few weeks ago :(
  • Lee_Morris #11 2 years ago

    I bught the PSP version and tried playing it on the bus ride to work for a month. I got bogged down in it though. I could definatley see the quality in it. £3.99 or better and I'm probably buy.

    Calling all iPhone 4 owners. How are the games looking on the upgraded screen? Mine is at home charging, then I'll be downloading as many apps as humanly possible (or what my bank balance will allow) all weekend.

    Well I have only tried regular games, nothing optimised for the iPhone 4 but they all look great.

    I can recommend the shooting range one, can't remember the name but it uses the gyroscope. That could well add a lot to future releases. Oh and it's 59p!

    @dylman
    Yep - there was a US version but never a European one of the original PSOne title. There was a shocking GBA version which wasn't the same game - but a DS version which rectified that I think.
  • carrotcake #14 2 years ago

    There is no DS version guys. Different games. DS has FFT A2, a sort of sequel FFT Advance. Both were original games. This War of Lions thing was on the PSP and is a remake of the original FFT from the PSone.

    IMO this game has the greatest story in the whole Final Fantasy series. A surprisingly grown-up tale with well-developed characters; carefully balancing serious politics with swords and sorcery. A true epic. Just hope they solve the psp save problem, where you'd save between 2 battles without a chance to enter the world map, and then facing an impossible fight you cannot win. Alternate save slots are a must!

    @Ninja_Tino
    Agreed the depth and complexity to the story was one of it's best points. The end was particularly good.

    @Carrotcake
    Ok - thought the DS got the original at some point but obviously not.

    If I wasn't surrounded by family and friends right now i would whip my dick out and spunk on the monitor!!!

    This is great news!!!

  • Rubarack #19 2 years ago

    @Mowgli. The Iphone doesn't have any serious in-depth games that aren't on some other platform, like Japanese 360s or the DSi. Apart from Rolando of course. And Spider. And Hector. And Chaos Rings.

    It's official now, Iphone > PSP.

    Just when I was thinking of selling my iPod Touch after getting a top-spec Android phone... Get this on the Android market pronto!
  • Daikon #22 2 years ago

    Instant buy, whatever it may cost.

    I don't know about other readers, but as for me the iPhone has replaced my DS as my main portable gaming device.
    Some more iPhone game reviews on EG instead of these roundups would be nice.
  • alcides #23 2 years ago

    Will the excruciating slowdowns be ported from the PSP too?
  • Wyrm #24 2 years ago

    Gief Secret of mana date!
  • Demiath #25 2 years ago

    That's the best hardcore news I've heard about the iPhone since, like, Apple was founded in 1976...
  • doomster71 #26 2 years ago

    I can't wait. I imported the original from the states for a small fortune back in the 90s to play on my chipped ps1 at the time. My ps1 desired that it would break down soon after so I only got about half way through. I hope they do a good job with the iPhone version
