Fable III will have episodic DLC

And Natal not required, says Molyneux.

Peter Molyneux has revealed plans to release downloadable "episodes" for Fable III post-launch.

"I've often thought it would be brilliant to be walking through Charles Dickens' London. It was such a dark place and very episodic too – so we're doing that with Fable III," he told bit-tech.

"We'll give you the first big episodes, and you'll be able to download new episodes, which is analogous to the way Dickens wrote."

Talking about how the content will be offered, he added: "Some of the shops in Albion are linked to the internet and every so often populated by stuff from Lionhead. You don't have to go out to some horrible dashboard and download the Armageddon Pack 5."

Fable III is due out this autumn. So far Molyneux's talked about Touch and about becoming King, but apparently there's still one secret left to unveil, presumably at E3.

Whether that will be how Natal works with the game we'll have to wait and see.

"You still need a controller to play Fable III but there are places in the world where you can use Natal, where it's cute, funny, engaging. You don't need it but it does enable an enhanced Fable III, " Molyneux told bit-tech.

We talked to Peter Molyneux at GDC earlier this month, and previewed his new game in San Francisco a month earlier.

    So basically, Fable 2?

So if I am king, surely I own that shop and thus all the content in it. I take it that we will get it all for free then? No? oh.

Fable III PC announcement coming soon. Also with DLC.
  • jonsaan #4 2 years ago

Thank God Natal is not required.

Even Peter Molyneux realises that not all sweaty gamers have 4 metres clear area in front of their screens in their bedrooms!

    Good call, Peter, good call!

    Good news then :D

Microsoft man admits NXE is hideous? :o

Anyway, im weary. During fable 2 (X06, I believe), Petey mentioned some cool stuff about DLC adding to the simulation stuff and how the world interacts, affecting the economy etc, Didn't notice any of that in either F2 DLC. :(

    He really said that??

    Wow

Good God. Are we going to have to listen to PM's witterings from now until the 'fall'?

Good God. Are we going to have to listen to PM's witterings from now until the 'fall'?

Well according to the bible, "the fall" happened 6,000 years ago. So presumably we never have to listen to him again?

Damn I love Rare for letting us kick him in the head in Perfect Dark.

How much time is wasted building slot in systems for this sort of dlc? My worry is that they spend so much time and resources building the delivery mechanism and bug testing it and then in the end they release one episode that's delivered long after most interest has dissipated.

Re: Heitzu - Hate to give it attention, but who pays people like this? Surely not Microsoft, but who else would benefit from promoting Bing T-shirts for Xbox avatars?

Is he seriously comparing Fable to the complete works of Charles Dickens?

The idea of streaming the microstransaction DLC items into the gameworld shops is nice though, hope to see that happening in other games that intend to do this sort of thing, though it does kinda feel like the game is trying to advertise the fact that there is DLC, which is kind of an immersion breaker.

    Just like Dickens did it!
  • Rubarack #16 2 years ago

More overpriced DLC and in-game advertising eh?

@Xerx3s - how often have you seen the queen pop down to the local spar & help herself to 20 B&H? only to be told by Mr Singh that just because she is the queen, doent mean she actually owns the kingdom and that actually, under civil law she would be stealing and thrown in the tower to be guarded by men named after a restaurant.

I could rant on, but i'm sure you get my point :o)

"Some of the shops in Albion are linked to the internet"

Albion has the internet? Since it's set in the realm of the ancient medievil kingdom, I assume it's dial-up.
  • Heitzu #20 2 years ago

@ignatiusjreilly I didn't post that for being paid or anything, I couldn't use it and thought someone might like it but whatever... so whatever I was just being nice... I just posted it in this story as it was the most relevant as its about an xbox game.

    That was all.

Anyway to be on topic I just hope they are of significant length unlike the Fable 2 DLC.

  • ignatiusjreilly #21 2 years ago

Ah, now don't I feel like a dick. It was a genuinely thoughtful post and I called you out on it.

Sorry mate, seen lots of bots on these pages recently, don't know why your post made my radar go off.

    Carry on :)
  • Heitzu #22 2 years ago

Don't worry my fault really I just posted it without any sort of explanation.

Anyway as you say carry on.
  • Distributor #23 2 years ago

I have to say this again....please please please for the love of God and all things holy, someone shut PM up.
  • HandsomeCrab #24 2 years ago

One thing worse than EG's incessant reporting of anything Peter Molyneux says - people saying how much they hate him and wish he'd shut up.

And they always refer to him as PM, presumably because they can't spell Molyneux, the fucktards.
  • metalangel #25 2 years ago

You don't have to use a horrible frontend to buy DLC in Fable 3 then. This article seems to indicate you get it from salesman NPCs which as we all know were so popular and well-loved in Dragon Age...
  • smelly #26 2 years ago

I'll not buy straight away and wait for the "game of the year"/"gold"/"whatever" edition then with all the DLC included ..
  • smelly #27 2 years ago

    @Beano : Good news then :D

Too damn right.. sounds like my appartment is too small!
  • Lee_Morris #28 2 years ago

I love the idea of not being booted to a store to buy DLC. I will probably buy a 360 solely to buy his games. I believe he does push things and I can't understand the level of criticism he gets.
  • monkfishjoe #29 2 years ago

I am really starting to dislike this trend of DLC. Things like EA's project $10 and on disc DLC in Bioshock 2 and Resi 5. I have no problem with extras and dlc and some of it is very good, but I believe it should be optional and something that enhances the game - not something that actually builds the game as your're going along.

Now, without hearing more news from old Peter, I won't judge just yet - hopefully some/all dlc will be free, but it's still a chore having to download stuff. My broadband connection can be slow and has a pretty harsh limit - it's just a bit annoying...
  • Darkjinxter #30 2 years ago

[And they always refer to him as PM, presumably because they can't spell Molyneux, the fucktards.]

Any fool can CTRL+C Peter Molyneux, then CTRL+V it into the post, I suspect we just can't be arsed doing it.

Enters cryogenic freezing. Ten years from now exits cryogenic freezing buys all GOTY editions for a tenner. Plays for a year or two goes back into freezing for another cycle. :p
  • immateriaux #32 2 years ago

@HandsomeCrab "One thing worse than EG's incessant reporting of anything Peter Molyneux says - people saying how much they hate him and wish he'd shut up."

No. Just can't be worse. Cause and effect. Remove Eurogamers tedious, school boy wanking over PM's verbal burps and all the other stuff would instantly disappear so I think focusing on the cause is far more effective, especially to those of us who can see plainly the only reason for all these bite size burp articles is to keep him and his product constantly on the main page.

Thursdays' article, I have it on good authority is PM describing, very briefly, how there will be two types of cheese in the next Fable. Microsoft's brilliant Natal may be a requirement if you wish to "cut the cheese" , as they say. Also, he admits, some of the cheese may not make it to the final game.

    PS I agree with Darkjinxter
