    £40, GfWL exclusive?

    Fail.
  • monkeywithnoeyes #2 2 years ago

downloadable exclusive.. i cant tell if this a "win" for PC gamers or not.

I do wonder if that means Natal will be PC compatable.. would probably make sense getting it too as many people as possible.. though how great it would be confind to a monitor screen and pc desk i dont know
  • CalmHorizons #3 2 years ago

Still no fable 2 for PC then. Bizarre really. Isn't this one a direct sequel?
  • Lukree #4 2 years ago

I will skip this. Tried to 'get' Fable. Tried even more to 'get' Fable II. Didn't 'get it' so no more trying.
  • Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #5 2 years ago

I'm trying to clear up what exactly PC gamers are getting. £40 is steep. Sounds like that might include the digital extras from the Collector's Edition though.
  • n30n666 #6 2 years ago

"Fable III will be downloadable exclusively from Games for Windows" awesome... wait what? GfWL you got to be shittin me. I really hope theres better reason than Microsoft force feeding us this crap service.
  • MrChuckles #7 2 years ago

I think the point is how many people would actually buy Fable 2 on PC considering Fable 3 is out. And also think of the costs and effort porting it over from the 360.

    Probably a financial decision.
  • Diogo_Ribeiro #8 2 years ago

No, I think the newsbit is wrong. What Lionhead said is the game will be on retail for PC, but a digital version will be a GFWL exclusive - meaning, it won't be sold digitally anywhere else.
  • ignatiusjreilly #9 2 years ago

    @MrChuckles

True, and I don't think it's a big deal really. Still, 1 = yes, 2 = no, 3 = yes again. Just make up your minds if PC games are worth your time already.
  • Diogo_Ribeiro #10 2 years ago

"The Windows version will retail for $49.99/£39.99/€54.99, and will also be available for download exclusively on Games on Demand on Games for Windows – LIVE."

    Yay!

    1920x1200 here I come!
  • JonFE #12 2 years ago

Hopefully, this time the limited edition will be released as announced...
  • sneetch #13 2 years ago

€55 on PC? Hmmm... I have my doubts that I'll be buying it on PC then.

    Edit:

"The Windows version will retail for $49.99/£39.99/€54.99, and will also be available for download exclusively on Games on Demand on Games for Windows – LIVE."

Hang on. It'll retail for €55 but will also be available for download exclusively on Games on Demand. As in, it's not on Steam or Direct2Drive or whatever but I can buy a retail copy too? Not so bad then. Article seems a bit confused though, Eurogamer.

Only downloadable on PC, fuck that! Atleast put it on Steam then we might have a deal. I cba buying a 360 just for the one game that I want too play.
  • Gunzberg #16 2 years ago

    Also..

At £20 I think good value!

    At £25 I think reasonable

At £40 I think greedy corporate whores
  • linksdad #17 2 years ago

Hope they dont run out of time and not manage to get the book bit printed and just do an inlay that has a spine and pages printed on it. Oh and the cards might be delayed so they might include a PDF so you can print and cut out. And the wolfsbane sword quest might have to come a few months later as DLC. The coin might also come as a PDF to print and stick to a REAL 50p. The dog outfit was going to be an entirely new breed but ends up being a slightly different coloured retexture. The clothing may be an exclusive Aurora colour of clothes and for environmental reasons it will come in the standard case.

Edit: Boy my typing is atrocious!

What with charging that much, refusing it from the most popular games store, and releasing it after everyone else has already played it, I hope they don't bitch about low sales. Because they have almost guaranteed themselves low sales.

I hope they release it this time. Unlike last time where the kinda cool CE got canned.

It's not only downloadable on PC; it's a retail release that's also available through digital download but the digital download is exclusive to GFWL. The article is misleading I think.
  • GreatBlackthorn #21 2 years ago

So basically a £40 "Fuck you" to the millions of Steam users.

    Thanks.
  • kinky_mong #22 2 years ago

Well the last Fable Collector's Edition was very in keeping with the game by not delivering anywhere near what was initially announced. I expect the same this time.

As mentioned on other gaming sites reporting this news...

"Since the Windows iteration will only be available in the standard version at retail (for just $50, might we add) and downloadable 'exclusively' through Games for Windows Live Marketplace, all PC players will be able to access the extra quest, region, and dog breed that come with the Xbox 360's collector's edition."

Make of that what you will.
  • ignatiusjreilly #27 2 years ago

Make of that what you will.

I think I'd rather keep the money.

That it's a direct sequel to the point where savegames are transferred, and there's no sign of the predecessor.

    Glad to help out.

(There also seems to have been a massive backlash since the release overhype, most people seem to hate F2 these days). Too little, too late.

    Sorry UncleLou ;)
  • miiiguel #31 2 years ago

^ So they shouldn't put Fable 3 on the PC ?

By the way, have you ever played Fable 1 and Fable 2? Are they direct sequels, for you?
I did play them both, quite thouroughly. And aside from being both set in Albion they are completly diferent games.

Don't take me wrong, but it continuously amaze me how people (smart people) usually talk about something as subject they know very well, and it includes games they never played and/or games that didn't come out yet. I know, we have to talk about something and all, but still...

Another 360 exclusive bites the dust :-(
  • ignatiusjreilly #33 2 years ago

I understand they are also selling Fable 3 broken into individual episodes on Xbox Live, is that right? I think that's a very cool idea - maybe they could do that for the PC version, seeing as it's on the Windows version of Live too?
  • SClaw #34 2 years ago

F2 was fun and, assuming that price is wrong, I will pick it up on the PC. If the US price is correct (which translates to £25-30) then fair enough. £40 for a download only? Eh... no way. If you are making me pay a premium I at the very least want a box and a manual (even if I do bin them).

This is clearly a cynical move to shut up moaning PC players. Fair enough, but that does lead me to suspect it'll also be a terrible rush job port rather than a proper conversion. Again, no thank you at that premium.

I still have serious doubts about F3 as it is. The DLC for F2 was just money grubbing and I strongly suspect that it'll be a million times worse for F3.

But... it'll do well. Fable was always girlfriend candy, while still being sufficiently violent to appeal to us. If they add some sort of farming mini game in I have no doubt it'll sell an extra billion copies to the ladies alone.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
  • ParanoidZombie #36 2 years ago

I can't believe this game hasn't been delayed yet. A Molyneux game released on schedule? that would be big news. Anyway, loved fable2, high hopes for n°3.
  • Darren #37 2 years ago

"The PC version of Fable III will be downloadable exclusively from Games for Windows - Live and cost £40."

If Fable III on the PC cannot be purchased from the likes of Amazon, GAME, etc. for a more reasonable sub-£30 price point then I won't bother with it at all, thank you Microsoft. £40 is an obscene amount for a modern PC game, which usually cost between £18 and £25 from most e-tailers.

Digital downloads really do suck at those prices... no wonder Microsoft are so keen on it replacing physical media...
  • RodHull #38 2 years ago

Bless Microsoft and their dogged support for GFW.
  • Wolverfrog #39 2 years ago

I'm not convinced about Fable III. The second was fun, but it lacked the magic of the original. I think it would be much better if the protagonist spoke, there were cutscenes, and a much more complex story.
  • Ravenger #40 2 years ago

£40 is even worse when you realise that you can't re-sell many PC games due to DRM, unlike the console versions, and it's likely that Fable III will use the latest GFWL DRM which locks the game permanently to your account.

    Hopefully retailers will discount it.
    Edited by Ravenger at 21/05/10 @ 16:52
  • CaptainBinky #41 2 years ago

Bah, would have much preferred a Steam release but... well, would rather play on my PC than my 360 so looks like I'll just have to suck it up.
  • mumblyjoe #42 2 years ago

The PC statement is still very ambiguous, also whats the chances of Fable 2 shipping in the Collectors Ed. Think I might reinstall Fable tonight :D
  • TheTingler #43 2 years ago

The press release clearly states that the game is also available to download exclusively on GFWL, so it will be available for retail via Amazon, Game etc.

Nevertheless, I'll believe this when I see it. Alan Wake please Microsoft?
  • UncleLou #44 2 years ago

Don't take me wrong, but it continuously amaze me how people (smart people) usually talk about something as subject they know very well, and it includes games they never played and/or games that didn't come out yet. I know, we have to talk about something and all, but still...

Noone said anything about Fable 3. Have you even read the newspiece? Bit surprised why you'd think that would cuase any enthusiasm. Coupled with the fact that it has been known with certainty for months that there will be a PC version.

By the way, have you ever played Fable 1 and Fable 2? Are they direct sequels, for you?

Was there a savegame transfer between 1 and 2?
  • CaptainBinky #45 2 years ago

Yeah, I knew it too. And lots of other stuff you don't. :p
  • miiiguel #46 2 years ago

@UncleLou : That's cool man, I'm going home play Alan Wake now. I think I understood: you realy wanted to play Fable 2 because it's not on the PC, but then again "most ppl" (whoever's counting) say it sucks, so not so much now. Now you'd like to play Fable 3, but... you don't want to play Fable 2 and you read something about a save transfer. It's complicated.

Did you like Fable 1, at least? That one is save transfer-free and it's on the PC.
I prefered 2, but the combat is crap. Lovely Albion in a conceptual kinda way.

You see i would have got Fable 2 for PC, in fact i was pretty excited about it.. but then they didnt release it.. but unless they are including F2 in F3 for PC, i just dont seem inclined to go and buy it... so its a lost sale from me i guess... might see after the price has taken a tumble (but so many great games coming out these days it might just pass me by)
  • Shakey_Jake33 #48 2 years ago

Steam is somewhat irrelevent to the conversation, because there has never been a Microsoft-published game on Steam, and they surely prefer to use their own service.

But it's bad news for us, because Valve are extremely proactive with their offers on Steam.
  • Syrette #49 2 years ago

It's as if they don't care about people having yet another reason to get a PS3 as well as, if not over, a 360.

The amount of genuine exclusives on the 360 is very unimpressive. And not everyone cares for the likes of Forza or Halo.

No doubt we'll get plenty of new gimmicky IPs when Natal comes out.

    "Yay!
    1920x1200 here I come!"

That is going to look lovely, but I'm going to stay on my couch. With my coffee. And my cat. Fable's just that sort of game. (But I will be buying the cheapest edition released - to pay for the coffee.)

"Another 360 exclusive bites the dust"
    ...
"It's as if they don't care about people having yet another reason to get a PS3 as well as, if not over, a 360."

Not seeing the PS3 connection at all, and honestly who cares whether this is a 360 exclusive?

"The amount of genuine exclusives on the 360 is very unimpressive. And not everyone cares for the likes of Forza or Halo."

So, are you saying you'll enjoy Fable III less knowing that PC owners might also be playing it? I'm lost here.
  • Rack #51 2 years ago

I can accept that it's irrational, but a half-assed PC port with onnoying DRM isn't an exciting upgrade over the 360 version while simultaneously making my 360 look like a stupid purchase next to the PS3. Somehow I'd be happier if I could just get the 360 version and feel like I hadn't wasted my money on the 360.

Logically though, yay at least other PC gamers get to play this.
  • Haloboy #52 2 years ago

  • Machiavellian #53 2 years ago

Maybe its me but I do not see why Fable 2 has any bearings on Fable 3. Its not like you are the same character from 2 to 3 if I remember. You still start out as a child in Fable 3, grow up and have to overthrow the king to become king.

For the people crying about 360 exclusives, I believe MS believes the PC is one of their platforms especially if they are publishing the game. You know, its about creating a franchise that sells constantly to a larger audience. If they can get PS3 gamers to buy the game on the PC so much the better.

  • Razorus #54 2 years ago

Eugh, not the best front cover tbh. Why change the pattern now? It was always a default character on the front. Anyway, still gonna be a sweet game I hope.
  • MaxHughes #55 2 years ago

For that insane price for the PC it should include Fable 2 on a separate disc >____>
  • hiddenranbir #56 2 years ago

    That looks sexy box.

Thought the CE might have included Fable 2. So the trilogy is there.

Nice to see a digital exclusive NOT on Steam. Steam was really starting to hogtie a lot of games.
  • lockload #57 2 years ago

after the amazing quality of the alan wake collectors edition im going to concider this

  • Pasco #59 2 years ago

"I will skip this. Tried to 'get' Fable. Tried even more to 'get' Fable II. Didn't 'get it' so no more trying."

Like others, I shall mark your comment down as a result of the combination of these facts:
    - I like Fable II.
    - You didn't get Fable II.
    - I am an idiot who thinks that everyone should like the same things I do.

Now, say that you like Fable! SAY IT!
  • Verwandlung #60 2 years ago

  • wez_316 #61 2 years ago

At SClaw: Anybody who thinks $50 translates to around £25-30 hasn't paid much attention to exchange rates for a while. Try £35... and that is without state tax even factored into the equation.

In the current financial climate... the UK is paying less for videogames than America and a lot less than Europe. I'd guess that the UK is even the cheapest place for games in the world right now save maybe Japan.

Also £40 RRP means £30 or less online. Sims 3 had a £40 RRP

I'm really sick of everybody recently moaning at the price of games when prices have actually never been better :S Are you all so naive that you think that when currency value falls that games developers will stick to old pricing models? Come on... gaming is a business not a charity. If you don't think a game is worth £40 personally then wait until it lowers to a price you are happy with. Do you have to buy everything on day one in spite of moaning constantly about the game during all the build period? If you want cheap prices you have to be patient... as with everything!
  • robthehermit #62 2 years ago

An xbox collectors edition I might actually buy.
  • Shakey_Jake33 #63 2 years ago

I'm not one who generally cares much about box art, but why did they ditch the box art that leaked last week? That looked miles better, this looks quite drab
  • Zaiz #64 2 years ago

FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ THE COMMENTS THREAD BEFORE THIS, PROBABLY BECAUSE EVERYTHING WASN'T IN CAPS AND BOLD, THERE IS A RETAIL, BOX EDITION FOR THE PC.

Which I will probably buy, since I have enjoyed the Fable series so far.
  • StooMonster #65 2 years ago

BuckoA51: the save game situation with it alone is enough to make you want to tear your hair out

Are you suggesting that Xbox Live should let you save in "the cloud" as well as to memory cards, hard drive, USB, etc.?

That would be very cool, especially if saves worked across GFWL too. =)
  • StooMonster #66 2 years ago

    @BuckoA51

Totally agree with you. On PC I only buy downloads, and then (mostly) from Steam; simply not going to buy from GfWL.

If I have to have a disc, I might as well get the Xbox version and play on my projector in the living room; which is what I've been doing with Fable 2 recently. :D
