European WiiWare launch line-up

Eight games, but not all on 20th May.

Nintendo has announced the European WiiWare launch line-up, which is headlined by LostWinds from Frontier and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King by Square Enix.

Yesterday saw the launch of the US WiiWare service, featuring six titles, but we actually get eight in Europe on 20th May, missing out on the US' Defend your Castle and V.I.P Casino: Blackjack but gaining Dr. Mario & Germ Buster from Nintendo, Pirates: The Key of Dreams from Oxygen Interactive, Star Soldier R from Hudson and Toki Tori from Two Tribes.

Update, 12.05pm: Nintendo has been in touch to say "not all eight titles will be immediately available from the May 20th launch date". The wording in the press release was, "From 20th May onwards a whole host of brand new creative games from developers across Europe and the rest of the globe become available, including..." followed by a list. We've asked Nintendo to clarify which ones will be out when.

All the games will be sold through the Wii Shop, as with Virtual Console titles, and while official European pricing did not accompany Nintendo's release, we've put in a request for details and filled in the blanks using US and Japanese pricing in the list below. In other words, the prices listed may be different but probably aren't.

The European WiiWare launch line-up:

Check out our LostWinds review for more on that one, and look out for hands-on and reviews of WiiWare titles very soon, or check out our US WiiWare hands-on roundup for more on a few of those. And yes, the service does appear to be called WiiWare here after all, and not "Wii Software" as we were told last year.

    Where is "World of Goo"?

No "Defend Your Castle" for the UK launch. :-(

I wanted that over Dr Mario. Hopefully it won't be too long.

Hmm, of those titles I'm pretty much only really interested in Lost Winds; which looks like exactly the kind of thing I want to see from WiiWare. Unless any of the others end up getting excellent reviews then I can't see myself buying them.

I'm more looking forward to World of Goo (okay I'm getting it for PC instead but I would have bought it for Wii if I hadn't pre ordered!) and the likes of Animales de la Muerte, Gyrostarr and Puzzloop (or whatever it's going to be called in Europe!).

Definitely looking forward to some nice cheap, innovative indie titles. The announcement of WiiWare was one of several factors that finally convinced me to buy a Wii and I don't think it's going to disappoint.

I wonder how they calculated the prices. Did they convert the US price + add 100% to get the usual European price?

I've been holding off on getting Metroid and Mario World with my 2100 points (converted from stars), I hope the games are good. I've only seen footage of LostWinds and is looked quite good, I hope it's long/good enough to warrant spending 1000 on it.

Lost Winds is definitely the Dishwasher of Wiiware.

According to the IGN review Lost Winds is only 3 or 4 hours long when played at a brisk pace. Still it is nice and cheap and in my mind worth the money (similar gameplay to money ratio as a Sam and Max episode!) even if it sounds like it's a bit of a breeze.

    BA DA BOOM!

Very tempted by LostWinds - it looks great in the vids.

I'm sure I have some stars I haven't added to my account on the Nintendo site, so maybe it's time to get those on and start the usual trials and tribulations of trying to get some Wii points...

I don't see why there should be any disagreement over the pricing structure. It should be the same amount of POINTS here as the US, same as all the vc games and other paying things so far.

Of course, the points themselves are cheaper in America which restores the balance...

Star Soldier R sounds very appealing, loved the updated version that came out on the GC.
