EndWar gets Escalation Pack DLC

Plus 4v4 multiplayer mode update.

Ubisoft plans to release an Escalation Pack for Tom Clancy's EndWar on Xbox 360 and PS3 today. That's the plan; there's nothing on either online service just yet.

Update: Ubisoft has told us the pack costs 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) on Xbox Live Marketplace, or EUR 9.99 from the PlayStation Store - pound pricing is still to be confirmed.

The Escalation Pack adds four brand new missions: the Siege of the Kursk Firebase (Ukraine), the Assault on Devon beach (England), the Raid on Rota naval base (Spain) and the Conquest of Dorsey Knob (USA, West Virginia).

These are apparently previously unseen areas, and can also be skirmished.

Additionally, there will be three extra unit upgrades to work with, plus 10 new Achievements and Trophies to unlock.

Today marks the arrival of a title update adding four-versus-four multiplayer, too. The patch will be available on Xbox 360 today, and on PS3 early next year.

Tom Clancy's EndWar, released back in November, was praised for its ambitious headline voice-command controls.

Head over to our Tom Clancy's EndWar review to find out why.

Excellent, best online game this year. Just hope the maps are available in the Theatre of War.

Epic win! Those new maps sound great, and I can see 4v4 being both insane and fun.

For anyone that hasn't played EndWar yet, you really should.

This is currently £19.99 on play.com.

Is it popular online? I am thinking about a purchase. Can you advise/help?

Also 360 or PS3? Feedback to help me make my mind up would be great, I quite liked the demo so..........

My 360 headset is unreliable so I prefer the PS3 version. Haven't bought it yet though. Still deciding

I can imagine it would work better with a different headset to the slightly useless default 360 one, but it recognises at least 95% of the commands I give first time, and my headset is years old.

Eraysor - can you advise on the full game..........ie popularity online etc
  • polaris70 #7 3 years ago

    @Straybezza
If you liked the demo then you will like the full game. Your Battalion is fully upgradable and persistent in the Theatre of War mode and is highly addictive. Regarding getting a match online then I've never waited more than 5 mins in 1 v 1. Just make sure you don't pick the American side as they have a lot more players, it's easier getting a game if you pick the Russian or European sides. In 2 v 2 the wait can be a bit longer, especially depending on what time of day it is. Haven't got a clue about 4 v 4, I haven't played that yet.
p.s I'm playing on the 360 version so I don't know what the PS3 is like.

polaris70 - thanks for the feedback, my main concern was that no one plays online........it seems thats not the case so looks like the 360 is the one to go for.

Cut and pasted from the review comments, hopefully now people will have a better understanding of the game:

"Is there a list anywhere of the words recognised by the voice command software? Wanted to like the demo but felt that the point of voice control was lost if the player had to resort to the controller for many useful functions (take cover etc).

Also, in the ads I have seen the players are saying things like "take flanking position". Is this blatant marketing bullshit or have they really expanded the vocabulary and interface that much from the demo?"

Still tempted by this but as the PR claims that the entire game can be played using voice, I think having to use the pad will break the immersion for me (and make me feel a bit cheated).

You can play the whole game with voice command but you won't win a game. Telling your infantry to take cover won't work, you have to point your curser at a piece of scenery or if you want them to garrison inside a building. Also, you can upgrade your units with secondary attacks like flamethrowers (tanks), sniper rifles (riflemen), missile launchers (gunships), Chemical weapons (artillery), etc, etc. To use these attacks you need to press the 'y' button, there is no voice command for them. Other than that the rest of the game can be played with voice control. The voice comand really does work and is a lot more than just a gimmick, after a while it's second nature to be talking to your TV :)

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely not getting the game now. Why go on about voice comms and then put a load of commands in the game that are unavailable without fiddling with a pad?

Should the Advertising Standards Agency be looking at the trailers that ubi paid to run on EG? I would be interested to know if a tech-head has ever run the phrases grunted in them through the actual game. "Take flanking position one" my arse.

I think that's a little excessive badabing. The game uses voice control very heavily, and pad to provide some variety/utility. I.e multitasking of movement and voice-ordering. I'll get this when cheap, I like the idea of online persistence.
