What are you waiting for? Christmas?

We're amazed, too. Really, really can't believe it. How can Jamie-Lynn Spears be pregnant? Incidentally, the new Duke Nukem Forever teaser trailer is out.

Nobody saw it coming (least of all, we suppose, Jamie). No no, we're talking about the trailer. It's of Duke Nukem Forever.

At this point it would be appropriate to point out to latecomers [stop that -Ed] that DNF was originally announced when the years all began with "19", and that it's been through several revisions.

But, like Team Fortress 2, the chaps at 3D Realms have not allowed themselves to be content without full satisfaction, and so while nobody can accurately predict that they won't keep it in development for however much longer you can imagine, the prospect of its release suggests things are going well; we suspect they simply wouldn't be bothering us otherwise.

So, what do you think of the trailer?

Most developers would have something like this teaser made in 9 weeks. After 9 years DNF damn well better be better than sex when it finally shows up.

If they can capture the feel of the original, then it should be worth a go.

Remember this is a TEASER trailer though, you aren't meant to see/learn much. Dukes animation did look a little stiff, but the flashes of badguys - particuarly the Octobrain - looked pretty good.

as i've said in the other comments, the trailer is poor. really not the professional effort i was expecting considering it's the first footage since 2001.

here is a screencap of the "best bit". even it looks rubbish. what's going on with that DOF and motion blur? looks like the aliens are cardboard cutouts because the edges aren't blurred.

I dont see the point in bashing the game. It could easily be good. Prey was announced prior to DNF and it has been released (fairly recently) so duke might actually show its face soon.

I can't believe people think that this game has been in 'development' for 10 years! The project was cancelled many years ago and for all we know the developers have only recently gone back and decided to try again. Nice for us that they've done so and I just hope they can pull it off.

I'm not judging this teaser on 10 years work and I think it shows promise!!

So what if it doesn't look 'special'? It's just a teaser, besides Duke Nuke'em 3D was about FUN and shit loads of laughs.
This will hopefully will deliver that again in bucket loads.

Enemy gibs flying everywhere in a hilarious manor.

Actually that's Prey you're thinking of. DNF has been in constant production for the whole 10 years, although the project has been restarted several times with most if not all of the work from the previous cycles being scrapped each time. Not the most efficient way to make a game. Still I don't think the teaser was bad at all. It did seem to capture the Duke Nukem atmosphere.

I can still vaguely remember the early screenshots printed in PC Gamer magazine (I think), probably issue 1! Was it only 10 years ago, feels longer than that.
I think the screenshots showed a building site with cranes, trucks, etc that you could interactive with. Back then it all looked real exciting, but now.... ?

And people really should keep in mind that this was a teaser made by a couple of guys at 3DR as a laugh for their christmas party - not a trailer that's meant to be revealing or anything. Normally I despise teasers, but after a six year media blackout I think they should be excused. If they follow up soon with some real meat - which Broussard claims they will do.

Personally, I feel I haven't played a really entertaining shooter for a good while. The genre hasn't progressed as much as some would like to think beyond the run'n'gun type, only added some additional flavours on top of it. If 3DR can deliver a non-stop and varied action experience, I'll thank them. Considering their involvement in Max Payne and Prey (the latter which started out good but sadly ended pretty borishly), I think they can do it.

THIS game, has been in development since 2004.

Sure, there have been other versions carrying the same name, but that's as far as it goes as to what they have in common.

Also, as mentioned earlier, this is not a serious attempt at making a full-blown trailer, but something that was made for a laugh at their company Christmas party.

I think it's okay considering. Also, if this goes the way of Prey, it may come out really well.

I have seriously no idea of how one could prefer the blurry shots you presented to one where there's a superbly modeled monster surrounded by a very well lit area. That's how lightning should be done, and also how a monster should be modeled. 'course, the are of your shots could be ace as well, it certainly looks as if some coloured lightning is there in the background. But it's not visible and at all and by claiming that they are the "best bits" from the teaser I think is selling it a bit short.

Overall, the models seen so far in the teaser are looking great. The textures could be better from what is glimpsed, but good enough for me at least. I love the facial animation of Duke when he inhales and exhales the smoke from the cigar.
