EA Sports Active heading to PS3

2.0 also for iPhone and Wii this autumn.

EA has officially announced EA Sports Active 2.0 for iPhone, PS3 and Wii and said it will be released this autumn.

There's no mention of an Xbox 360 version. Perhaps they think some of us are beyond help?

Anyway, the new version of the fitness software will come with new leg and arm straps equipped with motion sensors. There's also a heart-rate monitor.

EA Sports Active 2.0 will also be supported by an online hub to track and share workout data, if that's the sort of thing you like.

The publisher also said that PS3 owners will be able to download new workouts and exercises over PlayStation Network.

Get your strap on.

The original EA Sports Active for Wii was actually very good, as was the More Workouts update released later in the year.

The 360 version is obviously being kept behind curtains until Microsoft's conference at E3. No better way to sell Natal to all those people who love Wii Fit.

iPhone version seems weird to me. Will that also work with peripherals and such or is it just a cash-in?

Cool would be if that version would "plug-in" to the console ones as an out of the house extension of the software.

My guess is that the hardware is bluetooth, Wii, PS3 and iPhone all support it. 360 misses out because it doesn't.

So PS3 is getting Wii shovelware...good,good
  • triple_a #5 2 years ago

EA Active is not shovelware, it is actually good. Can't wait to get it for PS3 and ditch the Wii. The downloadable addon exercises sound very good, hopefully they will also add some social aspect.

The Wii version never used the network connectivity for anything, which is a shame. I would also have appreciated the ability to playback your own music instead of the built-in tracks.

well, fitness game for PS3 is fine with me, I remember Kinetic and Kinetic Combat well and i remember the later with affection. It was far from perfect but it was fun and it really did improve my cardio even the "fighting" skills were bull :)

Cool. I never got this for the Wii, despite being very tempted, purely because I'd need to plug in the Wii each time I wanted to play. A PS3 release would be great.

I'd like to be able to play my own music - that's a must on the PS3 - but it would be really good to be able to play video files in a window too. Workouts are good, but they can be pretty dull!

this is all the Wii gets used for in my house, the misses uses it several times a week...an upgraded PS3 version would be awesome with the inclusion of new PSN workout DLC
just hope all the gem/arc add ons arn't too much

Sports Active using remote gadgets which you can waves or rocks about and a possibiliy of cannot cheating a real physical workout using your own body via Natal?

Seem EA keeping that one back as pretty obvious that body tracking is what going to happen with Natal.
  • Doctor_What #10 2 years ago

Natal will be huge for exercise games, that's for sure, but like the Wii I'm not sure what else it will be really capable of giving us.
  • makeamazing #11 2 years ago

Yep there is no doubt that Natal will be easiest for fitness programs, especially without the need to attach devices to the body, well as long as it does recognise all of the movements, i hated using wii fit where you would do a press up and it didnt acknowledge it (and that was with a controller device...lol).

there is not just natal, Sony alrady has a cam capable of movement tracking, since PS2...
