Demon's Souls due in Europe this June

Exclusive limited edition version.

Namco Bandai has confirmed that it plans to publish Sony and From Software's wonderful Demon's Souls in Europe.

The PS3-exclusive action RPG is due out on 25th June, and what's more it also comes in an exclusive Europe-only limited edition pack.

The limited edition contains a "soundtrack CD, new artbook and brand new strategy guide", and you can see a picture of it below.

Demon's Souls is an ARPG in which players enter the cursed realm of Boletaria and biff up monsters, gathering souls and getting killed a lot.

We adored it on Japanese import, giving it 9/10, and it was also one of the games we singled out for praise in our end-of-2009 features.

Anyone who hasn't already should buy this when it comes out, a truly excellent game and one of the best PS3 exclusives out there

I waited, will definitely get. Nice to see its a SE and we get the soundtrack too.

I got the Asian import version before Atlus announced their US release. Thought about getting the US Deluxe edition for that juicy strategy guide but decided against it. Now that it's coming to Europe, however, I just might buy the game again...
  • JohnnyWashnGo #5 2 years ago

I never thought I would see the day this happened to be honest. Its like some kind of dream.

That being said, I will buy a copy to show support for releasing games like this over here - even though I have the US version already.

    About f'ing time!!!

I still donty understand why Sony arent bringing it here after the "regret" of not publishing it elsewhere. But as long as we get it I dont care whio the publisher is.

    Pre-order placed :D

I love games, I've been playing them for nearly three decades (oh god...) but something this punishing just doesn't really appeal that much to me. Is that weird?
  • RodHull #8 2 years ago

  • WiseGuy #9 2 years ago

I really want to play this but am totally concerned about the brutal difficulty I tend to get high blood pressure and develop a form of tourettes when challenged in a game which my girlfriend says creates bad karma in the room :)

To anyone who has played it: If a slightly below average skilled player like myself played this on easy is their enjoyment to be had or would it juse send me into a murderous rage? Also should say I really like to complete games so giving up half way through would also piss me off....
  • Kazzahdrane #10 2 years ago

Tempted to pick this up after some people in the comments yesterday were saying that the difficulty curve isn't quite as horrifically steep as some people have made out. Watched the Giant Bomb QL back when they got the US version in and it looked challenging but fun.
  • Beano #11 2 years ago

Imported the korean version last year and loved it. Now I'm tempted to buy the European version also - just to get the strategy guide, art book and soundtrack :)

    Screw it... preordering now!

@Doctor What - Nah, this game just isnt for you thats all. Tastes change over time & not everyone is into the same type of games so if you're into this then fair enough. I'll never understtand the appeal of WoW for example no matter how amazing its meant to be. Its just not for me. But then, not every game should appeal to everybody. The ones that split opinions are usually the greatest.

In fact this is the type of game that doesnt appeal to me the majority of the time. But you know, every so often, I do like a game to come along & really kick my ars. Just one that is really challenging to play & where every extra step you take is a huge achievement. Theres just something so satisfying about it. When you're in the right mood anyway. & since most games these days are too easy, I do welcome this as a nice change.

Bastards! I liked my exclusive Deluxe Edition!

Game isn't as hard initially as people say, especially if you don't run around like you're Kratos. I found the first few levels relatively pain free. Its once you get to the likes of 4-2 and 5-2 that it gets a bit fierce! Also when it starts to require so many souls to level up.
  • The_Inquisitor #14 2 years ago

I'm glad I waited, how could they not release this over here with the amount of 'game of the year' awards it received from the British gaming press.
  • erp #15 2 years ago

OK it's rare that I'll buy multiple releases of the same game (Wind Waker and Shadow of the Colossus are the last two that spring to mind), but I think I'm gonna have to get that SE despite already having the Asian release...

Kudos to Namco Bandai! Now all that remains to be proven is the not insignificant matter of the European online servers. Here's hoping they have the infrastructure.
  • wizlon #16 2 years ago

Sold this to a mate just last week for £30 because I don't have time to play it.... yeah, I'm going to buy it again when it's out over here.

Guys this game isn't as difficult as it's made out to be.

IF like me you grew up with the Commodore 64(no save points, loading every level, often if you lost a life you're faced with a 10 minute load) then this is a walk in the park.

Once you figure out the game mechanics and how to farm souls the game is cake. After the Flamelurker boss I don't think I died on a boss, and the last boss is a complete joke.

It's a brilliant game but I'd say the difficulty is fair, rather than the "brutal hardcore" it was made out to be by some ghey reviewers.
It looks and plays fantastic but with the PS3 being multiregion and the strong pound versus dollar I don't see how any self-respecting PS3 action/rpg fan hasn't has this already.

@Wiseguy: It is NOT that hard, it's just that it's not forgiving, at all, and you need to adjust your gameplay accordingly.

I would actually compare it to Laserdome vs. Paintball:

Laserdome is fun, sure, but since all you ever lose is a few points and 10 secs of playing time when you get shot, you tend to run around like a loon shooting at everything that moves.

Paintball, on the other hand, you get shot you're out of the round and it fucking HURTS! So, even though the games are basically the same, in Paintball you tend to crouch behind a tree in fear, your heart beating like an early Prodigy-tune, and you are EXHILARATED!

(Another analogy would be basic multiplayer half-life versus Counter-Strike, I suppose)

Demon's Souls does the same thing. Once you realize you can't "rush in like Kratos", to quote another talkbacker, you probably won't die any more than any other game. But sure, you will swear like a sailor when you do. Also, you will shout for joy and punch the sky every time you overcome the thing that killed you last time. That's the appeal of the game.

EDIT: Oh, there is no 'easy' option, by the way. The only equivalent is starting as a 'Royal', which makes the first few levels much easier.

Anyone know about the server situation? Will we be on European ones?
  • andywilkie35 #20 2 years ago

Already own the standard US version, absolutely no question I'm buying it again. If there ever is a Demon's Souls 2 I want a Euro release from the off so I will do everything I can to support it.

Only bad thing is the inital dates hinted at the end of May, which would have meant I would have played this for two weeks solid in June with my time off, but it comes out the Friday before I go back!
  • Golgo #21 2 years ago

Bit fat hairy dogs' cocks! Anyone here interested in my unopened non-special edition US version imported last week at a wallet-busting price?
  • mingster #22 2 years ago

Its not that hard i've completed it twice.
It gets easier the more you play and your weapons upgrade and your player is stronger.
I can take the rolling skeletons out with one hit now.
  • JonFE #23 2 years ago

Where is this available for pre-order?

    EDIT: Thanks Beano!

Take it steady wiseguy and it's much easier. By steady I mean do a bit of grinding over a section you can do well at. Level up a bit before venturing too far and you'll be a winner.
  • Belnini #26 2 years ago

Beware of Masses of Foes ahead.
  • mr_shoe_uk #27 2 years ago

    FINALLY.

    Looking forward to it!
  • butler` #28 2 years ago

All my moaning must have paid off ! :D
  • butler` #29 2 years ago

Also: the guys that didn't find it very hard probably played Royals.
  • Methys #30 2 years ago

Will it has anything extra? I'll buy it again
  • sfp_noodle #31 2 years ago

i feel sorry the uninformed still paying over £100 for the limited edition US version on ebay. all they had to do was visit a respected games site. or even a shopping site like game.co.uk, or play.com to realise its coming to europe, its a lot cheaper, and it comes with better shit. only downside is the 2 month wait :( but ill take a 2 month wait over being shafted for an extra £60
  • YenRug #32 2 years ago

I got this a few weeks back, £36 + P&P from ebay, not had much chance to play it, yet. Will probably see if I can sell it on before prices start dropping too drastically then pick up this version for release.
  • Widge #33 2 years ago

I was a Wanderer or something I think.
  • Mooglepies #34 2 years ago

Looks smexy. Props to the publishers for doing this, even if it is a no-brainer now.

I have both the Asian version and the US version though, so no-buy for me.
  • chrisola #35 2 years ago

Europe gets a good deal shock!
  • dudefella #36 2 years ago

Buying this package, even though I already own an Asian copy (was an early adopter). This game is so, so excellent.
  • NonniR #37 2 years ago

Just pre-ordered it even though I also own the Korean version. It's too good to pass. Seriously, Demon's Souls is pretty much a once-in-a-decade kind of game so don't miss out.
  • Sonic_D #38 2 years ago

Best game on the PS3, so why has it taken so long to get here?! And where is the DS2 news? Is it being made?
  • FogHeart #39 2 years ago

Well, instead of looking tanned and healthy this Summer, it looks like I'll be indoors-pale with large bags under my eyes.

    Can't wait :)

  • ElNino9 #42 2 years ago

  • darth_paul #43 2 years ago

im buying it on day one... and im certainly im going to regret it, considering its very difficult :p i suck at games
  • geeza2020 #44 2 years ago

GAAAAAAAH, Im seriously tempted now to buy a ps3, but i want a Wii as well for Mario Galaxy. Why does money have to be worth so little? (read: why am i such a tramp with little money?)
  • mkreku #45 2 years ago

GOD, I need that strategy book!
  • Ged42 #46 2 years ago

  • Zastai #47 2 years ago

already own the asian and us versions but probably getting this one too
i do pray it doesn't have its own separate trophy list though; i'd be compelled to go for 3 platinums (currently halfway to the second)
oh and the strat guide better not have fading cover ink like the one from the us ltd ed (as importer i could not get it replaced by atlus)
  • Bumbuliuz #48 2 years ago

I imported mine last year. Great game, damn hard.
  • Phishfood #49 2 years ago

Way too late, I already imported it. There was just so much hype and it was so import friendly I knew didn't mind paying £50 on ebay for it.

I have the US version with guide but I'm thinking of preordering this one too. Amazing game, among my all time faves.
