Dead Space to release a week early

It's all done and dusted, apparently.

EA has announced that sci-fi survival horror Dead Space is to launch a week earlier than planned.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will now be in the shops on 24th October. PC owners will have to wait until October 31st, though.

"The decision to bring it to fans earlier was due to completing the game early," EA said in a statement. Apparently it's now ready following "months of polishing".

Why not check whether you can see your face in it by visiting the gamepage, home to all manner of screenshots, videos and previews.

I'm hoping this may be a little better than condemned 2, the story in that just turned out to be shocking. And not in a good way!
    Looking forward to this!
  • Brogan #3 4 years ago

bet it's so they can "forget" to also bring forward the release of the review copies
  • J.C #4 4 years ago

The decision to bring it to fans earlier.

What, it has a fanbase already?
  • cyacomini #5 4 years ago

Aye - releasing a week early to beat the magazine reviews to the shelves :)

  • Farfarer #6 4 years ago

I'll still be waiting a week for the PC version.

Still, it's not quite as big a shitting on as PC gamers have received in past multiplatform releases.

Don't you guys get sick of being fucking negative all the time?

Game looks good, they've finished it ahead of schedule so they're pushing the release date forward, I'm sure people who are looking forward to this one will be really thankful, stop bitching about every fucking thing,
  • the_dudefather #8 4 years ago

it was deemed TOO TERRIFYING to release on halloween

I loved your level of sarcasm - up to the point that I realized it could very well be true :)
  • thesombrerokid #10 4 years ago

emm all the official trailers and stuff and the wikipedia, which of course has never been wrong :D say October 21st which is completely differant from both your stated release dates, are you sure you got your facts straight?
  • Colin8703 #11 4 years ago

I'm really looking forward to this. I think it looks great and the video diaries have me sold even though i'm getting it for free anyway.
  • illusiondance #12 4 years ago

ha ha, too right mr J.C, just what I thought. I do wish they would put PR types through school before releasing them on the general population.

Same week as Far Cry 2 eh? That will be interesting sales-wise. Both look good but my money's on the FPS.
  • mikeck #15 4 years ago

So bring it out NOW then ;)

  • asphaltcowboy #21 4 years ago

I've been really looking forward to this, since it was first announced, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned!
  • BillyBrush #22 4 years ago

This one is going to pay off for EA imo....the necrowhatevers may not be origional or that scary, but do a desolate spaceship and plenty of audio shinnngs when something jumps out and you've got a recepie for success...EA welcome to the scare club, present occupants Monolith and Project Zero team, there be's a lot of room in here and monney to be made, on your left is Alma, on your right...arrghhh!

just don't watch Rec. the day before playing it, then it might not work too well
  • Vin #23 4 years ago

Too many damn games over the next few months.
  • Chufty #24 4 years ago

Wow, turn up for the books...
  • dadrester #25 4 years ago

this has to score 9/10 or above on eurogamer or i've lost a little bet i had... i bet a mate it would score at least 2 more points at review than the lost game on EG. Shame then lost fanboy mugwum did the review and gave it a ridiculously generous 7/10... should have bet on edge scores instead :(

There missing a trick by not sticking to the Halloween release date but I echo what a few right-thinking people in here have said that the constant negativity in these comments section is depressing. Why don't you miserable fucks cheer up for once and maybe you'll realise that not everything is done for some twisted self-preserving reason.

    + 1 million, billion dollars...points ;)
  • actionfitz #28 4 years ago

been looking forward to this since I upgraded my PC for AoC and realised that game sucked 'Donkey Reproductive organs' after the 1st half.
The Dev video diaries kinda sold it to me :p
seems like a 'DO NOT PLAY IN THE DARK WITH HEADPHONES ON!!' type of game...

    - which is exactly how i intend to play it.
    ^^

Could it be that they're just trying not to go to head with an insignificant release of a game called LittleBigPlanet?
  • bodypopper #30 4 years ago

Unlikely Bravearse. I somehow doubt that Dead Space will have the same kiddy friendly rating as LBP.
  • bad09 #31 4 years ago

Wow a first, a game I want is actually coming out early \o/

I really hope this turns out at good as it looks
  • Triggerhappytel #32 4 years ago

This looks slick and polished enough, but I fear it will also miss the target a little. In particular, from the footage I've seen the enemies are not scary in the slightest and the zero-g sections look pretty weak (basically to follow linear routes jumping from one broken section of the ship to another). It could be pretty good but I think it might be another Cold Fear.
  • bad09 #33 4 years ago

    @ Triggerhappytel

    Hey I liked Cold Fear!!
  • Pulsar_t #34 4 years ago

^ I also liked Cold Fear (better than RE4 IMHO!)
  • Daymare #35 4 years ago

    @Super_Zee

How long is the game, you reckon? I really hope it's not too short.
  • Triggerhappytel #36 4 years ago

Well, I thought Cold Fear was okay, but it had a really poor ending and some bad design decisions which dragged it down a little (no map? Who thought up that stroke of fucking genius?!). The tanker section was definitely far, far stronger than the oil rig section, in my opinion.

I have a review for it below; please check it out. I would have scored it 6.5 ideally, but the site doesn't allow for intergers and generally I'd rather score down than up.

Nice review, i'll check back to that site!
I gave up on Cold Fear pretty quickly sadly, it had potential but with no map and hateful respawning I sold it pretty swiftly!
God I hate respawning enemies...I killed you already, sod off!
  • Super_Zee #38 4 years ago

Daymare, it's 12-15 hours long. And the Zero-G bits are more than just moving between sections of the ship. Now I'm going to stop as I signed a NDA and I've had far too much whiskey.
  • Daymare #39 4 years ago

Yay, great! Thanks for the info, Zee:)
  • Loser #40 4 years ago

Games looks good but I'm torn... PS3 or PC?
  • mikeck #41 4 years ago

    "Daymare, it's 12-15 hours long".

The recent Dev Diary released mentions it being about 20 hours long, lies, or have you not played the full game then?
  • Super_Zee #42 4 years ago

    ^
I played the finished build for seven gameplay hours and got half way through. I guess it could take 15+ hours if you really took your time and explored everywhere. The later levels obviously take more time as the difficulty ramps up.

I thought men make up a large portion of the gaming demograph. And women, well, they do bitch a lot. But somehow it seems on this site especially, there's no shortage of bitching. At least women bitch about men and childcare and things that mean something. But here it's the most trivial thing. But bitch and bitch, they never seem to stop.

Brits love to moan about stuff. The internet facilitates moaning on an unprecedented level.

What more do you expect when you combine the two? :p
  • makememoo #45 4 years ago

    @Quint2020

No not at all, the reward of being negative is being right 80% of time.

    Be a success! Be cynical!
  • penhalion #46 4 years ago

This early release is to avoid clashing with the dozen other games released on halloween. The sad thing is that Dead Space actually fit the theme of halloween a lot more than the other releases on that day and just got crowded out.
  • Gearskin #47 4 years ago

Seriously looking forward to this one. It looks brutally awesome! Love the style. Love the monsters. Love the violence. Love the crazy weapons and gravity stuff. Looks like Event Horizon meets Doom III meets Mr Driller.
