Dark Messiah updated News

PC News by Robert Purchese

27 February, 2007

Valve's vented that there's a new update available through Steam for Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, which aims to fix a host of online balancing issues as well as add a new mode and maps to the multiplayer experience.

So, those of you eager to fight amongst yourselves should be happy with the new Colosseum game mode, which lets a handful of players duke it out in a series of individual bouts. Or you could try your hand at one of the four new maps that have been added to the original fantasy roster.

Various abilities have also been fiddled with to make things a little bit fairer, meaning no menacing Mage with a full-fire alignment should now be able to instantly kill you with one spell. The pests.

The patch will be automatically installed when your Steam client is restarted, and you can journey over to Valve's website for a full list of fixes.

Which reminds me to remind you that Dark Messiah is really rather good, and that you should read our review before buying the game.

Nice, are the maps for Crusade, that would be awesome, getting sick of all the crusade maps now.

Edit- No, it isn't. Shame. Some of the other changes sound good though.

A horribly buggy game for me. Yet still no where near as horribly buggy as Neverwinter Nights 2.
Im still pissed at the various establishments giving this game good reviews.

It's not rather good. It's quite stupid actually. Room after room filled with the same enemies that stand casually next to spike beds and lethal contraptions that they've decorated everywhere with. And it's up to you to rush in and kick them all into the nearest death trap. That's all. Repeat for ten hours and you're done. So much potential, and all you have to do is kick orcs off cliffs, just so they can show off the spectacular death animations and physics.

Stupid, stupid game.

I'd say they give you the tools to approach the game as you asee fit.

If you went around kicking people instead of using the swords, knifes, magic or any of the other weapons, I'd suggest it was you that was at fault - not the game... so nnnnnnnnrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh

I enjoyed it alot, but definitely saw alot of where they couled have impoved. The story for one, and a better skills system (having more skills mainly, what was there was quuite limited), and a more open world would be awesome.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Graphics of Oblivion + combat of Dark messiah + depth of Morrowind = best game ever!

It's worked fairly well for months now, pretty soon after launch they fixed it. I really enjoy it in MP.

QFT.

Played it through three times before they patched it to add a harder difficulty level, and another two times since. The only way I'd improve it (rather than more of the same) would be to add some kind of statistics page / scoring system with online leaderboards. I'd never do anything else.

I picked this up last week. Can't believe I missed it on release. It's great fun with lots of laugh out loud moments. Not noticed any bugs yet and I'm 60% through the single player. Can't wait to try the multi now.
