Crysis 2 delayed

Don't panic.

EA has delayed the release of Crysis 2.

The science fiction shooter will now be released between the beginning of January and the end of March 2011.

No explanation was given for the delay, which was quietly confirmed by a release schedule inside a press release reporting EA's first quarter 2011 financial results.

Crytek's Cevat Yerli had pinned Crysis 2 to a "Holiday 2010" release during EA's E3 2010 press conference.

The game will be playable in 3D across all three platforms - PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 - at launch.

Crysis 2 looks well good. Christian Donlan went hands-on for Eurogamer in June.

    "Well good".

    Really?
  • thewool #2 2 years ago

Good, still haven't played Crysis yet (this is getting embarassing...)
  • Lee_Morris #3 2 years ago

Wise idea with amount of shooters coming out at the end of the year. With EA specifacally releasing quite a few themselves but I don't see why these companies change release dates so close to date.

I bet PR people pull their hair out over situations like this.

Wasn't Crysis brought forward just before E3 to early Autumn?

I don't think this is to do with quality. They're dodging the halo-moh-cod fight.

    Makes sense to me, anyway.
  • Buran #7 2 years ago

Bad news. I don't think that the Halo Reach, COD Black Ops and Medal Of Honor shipment window would to be worse than the one that involves Bulletstorm, Dead Space 2, Killzone 3, Gears Of War 3 and Deus Ex Human Revolution.

And I agree with ClubHeaven in that the stuff from Crysis 2 exhibited to date is far less appealing that the one from Crysis 1 back in 2006, both gameplay and visually wise.
  • mcmonkeyplc #8 2 years ago

This appears to be a trend. We're getting two major release windows like last Christmas.

So why the summer game drought. Kids here in China surely play a lot videogames during summer vacation(Jul-Aug). Not sure about Europeans and Americans? I've heard it's you are supposed to go play outside; take a trip etc so the lack of new releases. But it seems movie blockbusters are doing just fine.

Having played crysis adn warhead, i can tell you now that Crysis is one of the best shooters ever made. Some games pretend to say 'play it your way', but crysis delivers. If you want to wade into a base and slaughter everyone, go for it. If you want to take a basic rifle, slip a pile of mods on it and snip, go for it. If you want to take a truck and drive it through a building, thats there to.

Plus, i'm fortunate enough to have a machine to run it at close to full tilt, and it simply looks fantastic.
  • Negotiator #11 2 years ago

Very wise move to avoid the unstoppable force that is Halo Reach, very wise.
  • DoctorFouad #12 2 years ago

best looking console video game ever created ?

I still dont believe they could achieve this with a multiplatform title, even if they delay the game one whole year if they want to....

exclusive games are and will still ALWAYS the most technically advanced better looking games....(I believe Killzone 3 graphically will be better looking than crysis 2)

No (celebrated) holidays during the summer .. in the UK at least. And as the kids are off school, it's a popular time for families to go away on holiday, not spend their money on games.

    Dec has Christmas (obviously)
Mar/ Apr has Easter ... which is becoming increasingly popular to buy presents instead of/ as well as Easter eggs, making it a second "big" release time
  • geeza2020 #14 2 years ago

this is just food for graphics whores anyway. I'm interested in more than how many polys, frames per second, or different types of AA a game has before i say how good it is. And so far, this looks pretty average to me.
  • HoriZon #15 2 years ago

Halo: Reach beater, delayed because of Reach ??
  • Killerbee #16 2 years ago

    @geeza

Have you even played Crysis? Both the original game and Warhead absolutely nailed the gameplay as well as the graphics. I'm disappointed by the delay as there's no other big name FPS due which really caters for PC gamers. MOH and COD feel like console games to me.

Ah well, roll on Fallout New Vegas instead.
  • Dark_Era #17 2 years ago

Boy, looks lke its gonna be a real dry Holiday season, everyone seems to be skipping it now, anyways hopefully they get more time to polish it.
  • munki83 #18 2 years ago

What no Wii release how dare they release a multiformat game and miss out the Wii :p
  • geeza2020 #19 2 years ago

    @killerbee

Yes i have, and it just wasnt for me. The majority of FPS games don't really do it for me anymore. It has to have something no other game can offer, and with a million FPS games out there they all seem to offer the same thing. BNBG. Big negro, big gun.

Theres always Battefield 3. 1 year away at least though. :(
  • MattyD #20 2 years ago

I'm sick of jealous console kiddies saying Crysis is just a tech demo or for graphics whores when in all likelihood they've never even played it. If the first game had cone out on consoles everyone would be crowing about how open-ended and flexible it is, and how awesome the set-pieces were.
  • monkeywithnoeyes #21 2 years ago

@Clubheaven, that "bland" footage was later confirmed as being the PC version played.

Thankfully we have Reach hitting this year. Thats distraction enough from all the modern warfare shooters... well, atleast for 360 gamers anyway.
  • IkariW #22 2 years ago

"I believe Killzone 3 graphically will be better looking than crysis 2"

And you know this how exactly?

Crysis running 'settings high' a good rig at 1900x1600 looks better than anything that any console owner has experienced.... to date. Plus, its a d@mn good FPS game to boot. ;)

I think you need to expand your gaming horizons a little...

    ;)

@Golgo - Sadly, not until next year.
  • disappointed #25 2 years ago

The maps in Crysis were much more open than the corridor shooting in Killzone2, so the two are not comparable. Off hand, I can't think of any exclusive titles with map size similar to Crysis. Of course, they may be shrinking the maps for Crysis 2 - the preview from E3 didn't give much away in that respect.
  • ignatiusjreilly #26 2 years ago

    They are indeed.
  • geeza2020 #27 2 years ago

looks like the PCDF is out in this comments section. Anything negative about Crysis just gets met with: "Console kiddies, havent even played the game, go back to COD blah blah blah". Could it actually be that Crysis just isnt very good? Just as you're sick of "console kiddies" as you so maturely put it, I'm sick of PC gamers constantly going on about how theirs is the superior platform with better graphics and games and blah blah blah, PC fanboys are just as bad as their console counterparts.
  • IkariW #28 2 years ago

    Noface:
"gaming for over 20 years kid"

True, opinions should be based on experience, but it doesn't make them more valid.

Have you even played Crysis on a top end pc? Regardless of how good a game it is, it is truely a beautiful sight to behold.
But hold on, by your logic, the more pixels doesn't = better looking picture... why does anyone buy Blu Ray then?? or move to HD?

Oh, and I've been gaming since I was 4 thats 32 years.... save your bullsh!t for impressing little boys with okay "Kid".
    No... just no... kn0bber.

    Ikari

P.s. before I get labeled with the whole 'PC' fanboy thing, I enjoy all good games, regardless of platform, and always have.

It's dissappointing to see Crytek turning a PC exclusive into a console multiplatform release. There is no-way that it will be the same scale or graphical fidelity as the original. Console owners won't appreciate the full Crysis experience because it will be a cut down diluted one at that. I am happy to be proved wrong but we shall see.
  • TitusCrow #30 2 years ago

keep it down you kids! I'm trying to have a bit of slap and tickle with your old ma. :)
  • IkariW #31 2 years ago

"sorry boy I "experienced" the game on a high end rig. It was a shite game!"
You seem abit obsessed with the words 'Kid' and 'Boy'?

    kz2 was similarly shite.
    "Granted, it was"

"I won't say "its oh so good" just because i am a ps3 owner. but you butthurt guys tell the same shit over and over again. over the same game. for FUCKING YEARS! maybe the pc-owners should spent more on games instead of gfx-cards so the best devs won't abandon your platform. but hey: you can maximize your grafix-super-power for..."
'Your platform" what are you talking about? I have a PC yes, I also have a PS3 a 360, an Xbox, PS1 & 2, Dreamcast, N64, Saturn, megadrive, snes, nes, amiga, C64, spectrum... and I bought them all when they came out... what do you mean 'Your platform?'
And the whole 'Abandon your platform' comment.... you really are full of sh!t aren't you? haha... like you have any idea of development, or why games are developed on certain platforms over others... don't make me laugh.

"CRYYYYYYYSIS. a not so good fps. okay. what else? warhead? :D :D"
Warhead was better in some respects, simple fact is, FPS's will always 'play' better on a PC thanks to the mouse keyboard combo, so in that respect yes, FPS are better experienced on a PC, I'm not saying they are all better games, just some of them.

"btw: no more pixel means not "beautiful". if somethings looking good its looking good. come on: tell me megaman looks bad because he has less pixels. come on, boy. lighting, post-processing effects, animations etc. has nothing to do with resolution. maybe someday you'll get it. this will be the day you'll grasp the concept of the word "GAMING". "

Megaman is sh!t regardless of what platform its on, always has been over rated toss.
Lighting, PPFX and animations have nothing to do with whether a game is good or not... you really are clutching at straws aren't you? Good design, good management, and a good team have everything to do with making a good game.

I really don't need to grasp your concept of GAMING noface, because I truely don't believe you have any idea of what you are talking about. Playing games is totally different to making games you idiot.
And just because you play a lot of games doesn't mean you understand what it takes to make a good one. So like I say, save your bullsh!t for people that are easily led.

    Ikari

P.s. Having a blast with a text adventure, wasn't 'Fish' was it?... now that was good. ;) I'm not saying you can't enjoy different types of games, not at all, more power to it in fact, hell, I enjoyed the Golf game I typed into my ZX81... and that was truely awful! ;) 3-d Monster maze was special though. ;)

Ahhh a salesman! that explains an awful lot. You don't sell games by any chance do you?
"I'm in the games industry me because I sell them...blah blah blah"... NO, your in f**king retail, face it.

What facts?? what are you talking about facts? whose facts? yours? they aren't facts... they are opinions.
I think Valve would argue that people still support the PC sector quite a lot to be fair. I don't think its a question of support anyway, I think its a question of being cost effective. Consoles are cheap to lead on as you have one spec to work to, PC's have many different variables to work too, taking time, and there fore, money.

I really do hate that term 'AAA' thats salesman/publisher bullsh!t working overtime right there...
How long since a great game has been released only on PC? Hmm that is again, a matter of opinion. Depends what you think is a great game for you surely?

As a 'Gamer' dismissing a platform entirely is just narrow sighted and dare I say, a little stupid, your are cutting off your nose to spite your face.

    "ignorelist ahoi"

Hit a nerve there eh, or have you just realised you can't baffle me with your bullsh!t? ;)

Got RDR on 360, got all the GTA's or various consoles, Got Demon Souls (Great game) got Uncharted 1 - 2, GoW was okay... could have been better IMHO.
I don't give a sh!t when they are getting released on PC.. or if, I'm just saying that the PC still has a lot to offer, to dissmiss it off hand is just stupid.

I'm not even sure you understand English, let alone games... but hey, your entitled to your opinions.

You sell expensive art hey? excellent, so you'll understand that games are a lot like art, subjective.
One mans art is another mans chip paper and all that.

Thanks for the 'interesting' posts though.

Ah your German? my apologies, explains the slight miss typing.. or what I thought was miss typing.

No one is right in everything they say... ever. And the world would be a pretty boring place if that was the case.
I get a gaming fix on anything that has a good game on it, console, pc what ever, this whole platfrom loyalty rubbish has been grating me for years.
To get back to the original point, yeah, Crysis 2 could well be rubbish, but lets not totally discount it until we play it yeah? ;)

And if playing and enjoy games is nerdy? well yeah, I'm a nerd, when I started playing games I was classed as a nerd so why should now be any different. ;) But now they are my living I get away with it, as unfortunately, playing games is more like work for me than a fix of any kind. ;)

I don't have a problem as such, I just don't like one sided statements.
Enjoy your games on what ever platform you want, but just remember, there are people out there who have different opinions, so rather than trying to shout them down, embrace the opinions and maybe learn from them a little.

played crysis 1 and warhead. the gameplay is good but kind of slow (because i keep doing "Stealth" lol )

yes the graphic is technically awesome, but i just dont like the art... Crysis 2 also i still did not like the art.
the only art i like in Crysis is in Beach, looking at the sun and sea.

    No noface,
No need at all to apologise, I was a little out of line too.
