Codies quiet on SWOS date

But still expected this year.

Codemasters has kept its football-like lips closed about the release date of Sensible World of Soccer on Xbox Live Arcade.

However, it did sink its studs into our news pitch and say it expected the game would be out before the end of the year. So that's something, we suppose. A bit like watching England actually turn out a performance for once.

The last we heard about Sensible World of Soccer was in July, when the publisher told us it would cost 800 points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30) and be out later this summer.

We got very excited, not least because it promises to be a faithful port of the game we remember in our mind's eye, but also because we'll be able to play it against our friends on Live.

Sensible Soccer-mad Kristan managed to get his hands on the game earlier in the year to give it a run for its money, whilst chatting to game creator Jon Hare at the same time. Pop over to his first impressions of SWOS to see why the best things come to those who wait.

  • bengray66 #3 5 years ago

End of the year seems a bit drastic. Can we get Trevor McDonald to do a "tonight" special on this, and why on earth its taking so long?

Codies letting down their customers again?!?! Surely not!!!!

And just when you thought they'd turned a corner by producing good games like DiRT and Overlord, they go n kick us in the teeth by dangling the proverbial carrot in front of us.

Oh well, will go n spend my hard earned M$ points elsewhere now I think.

"they go n kick us in the teeth by dangling the proverbial carrot in front of us"

Man, i've seen that bloody carrot sooooooooo many times...with games and whilst working there :( How long does it take!!!

Unless they've found some huge progress stopping bug before the games actually been released this time (Unlike poor BubbleBobbleDS...hehehe, still makes me laugh)

SWOS was gonna be a great fill in for me to play online and off while I wait for the new version of Pro Evo, well, I think we can forget about that now! Pro Evo's gonna be out before SWOS ever appears.

    Speedball 2 FTW now :D

    Fuck me gamers are impatient.

Has it dawned on any of you that the delay might be (shock) to make it better?

What's better having it earlier full of bugs and a bit shit? or later and a good game?

FFS whats wrong with you all?

Sometimes i wonder if gamers actually play games or just fucking moan all the fucking time.

"A faithful port of the game" eh? So does that mean it will include the original '95-'96 season rosters like it did on the Amiga way back when?

    If so, AWESOME.

"Has it dawned on any of you that the delay might be (shock) to make it better?"

Its a port, what is there to make better!! And if they are, how long should it take!!! Not this bloody long!!

I think we have every right to feel gutted about this, theres being impatient and theres being dicked about by codies ..and not for the first time, thats whats happening now!!

    ...I smell a codies fanboy.
  • GamerAddict #16 5 years ago

I could understand if it was a full retail game, hell, its happened with Timeshift, they pulled it close to release and by all accounts completely rewritten it. Fair enough, if its to make it better, I for one will be a very happy man if the extra work pays off.

But come on, an arcade game? A port of an old game which by all accounts is a direct conversion of the original!! What could be possibly need doing to it?

I could understand a week or two of delays, ironing out a few minor problems, but by the sounds of it, this is gonna be delayed months rather than weeks! That's what annoys me, that and the fact Codies came out and said Summer release, what was that? A huge tease by the look of it!!

I love it how whenever anyone makes an argument they immediately state that anyone who doesn't agree is a fanboy.

At the end of the day none of us know the reality of the situation but we all know that Codemasters wouldn't delay the game if they didn't have to. They're not massochists.

    arghh!!! noooooo00000000ooo!!!

so many waits, especially after thinking ti was due out end of aug, i dont wanna be waiting till next year.. but... it must have some problems..
and i would rather it was perfect than a shoddy release at the end of the day...

SWOS >>>>> KO2. Thought we knew that back in 1995? KO2 fans are Sensi fans that are just rubbish at Sensi.

But, hey: SWOS v KO2 is still much more exciting than the current console war, and it's an argument that's been going on for twelve years.

Next week: Quake III v UT2

    Welease Wobert!!

OOOOO, that's a toughy! I'd have to stick my neck out and say Q3.

Even if it is a port, a lot will have to be done to get those menus working properly on a console i'd imagine - and not to mention the gfx update..
