Buzz! PS3 special edition for Christmas News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

24 September, 2008

Sony plans to offer a Special Edition of Buzz! Quiz TV this Christmas on PS3.

Alongside the game, gold-embossed case and wireless buzzers will be an extra 1000 questions to tie brains in knots with. Plus, there's a bonus 500 videogame-themed questions, and a quiz on African wildlife that Ellie should be quite good at.

There's lots of previously-released PSN content bundled in as well, such as four additional characters, Trophies, ten buzzer noises and a Quickstart mode to get straight into the action.

The Special Edition also has support for PlayStation Eye, which can take pictures of you looking confused or getting angry with your smarty-pants flatmate. Hi Chris!

Buzz! QuizTV arrived on PS3 back in July, boasting user-created and downloadable quizzes, wireless buzzers and online battles for groups of people on PSN.

The reception received was favourable, but the game quickly dropped off the UK all-formats chart.

Buzz! QuizTV finally launched yesterday in the US.

nearly all that content is already available for existing owners, just looks like they get the extra game packs thrown in for free with a gold case.

Tbh, Buzz probably needs to do the same thing as singstar and have a regular shelf presence to encourage people to continue buying, hence the re-=packaged version for crimbo with all the stuff we bought/downloaded.

The only extras are the question packs.

Everything else is covered by the patches or the game packs already on PSN. Presumably the Video games pack will be on PSN by the time that the Special Edition is launched

I too hope that existing owners with get a free update because as it stands Buzz! TV Quiz is undeniably a lot of fun with friends and family but it falls short in many key areas, notably the lack of customisation options so can play what rounds you want off and online. It feels very limited IMO, like a game that's three-quarters finished.

Since the original game didn't do very well on the PS3 though, what makes the publishers think this new Christmas edition will do any better at what is the busiest time of year for games? :?

Buzz! sales are totally different to other games. Other games need to make the bulk of their sales within the first month of release after that sales drop off markedly. Buzz sales are a constant slow burn, nothing spectacular, just a nice steady constant.

The series was nearly cancelled at birth after the first game due to poor sales, but the sales picked up over Christmas 2005 and it eventually sold over a million.

Quiz TV sales will be the same, especially since they have the ability to add content to the game via PSN.

Also camera support in the patch.

If they release this for less/equal to the cost of buying the question sets, I'd have it. I doubt it though.

It depends which version your friend has. The version number is on the startup screen (Relentless logo IIRC)

V1.01 adds Trophies, use of four controllers in Sofa vs Sofa

V1.10 adds four new characters, new costumes for every existing character, ten new buzzer noises and support for the PlayStation Eye (and Eyetoy)

I've just ordered Buzz+controllers from Amazon. Do I cancel/wait for XMas version?

Will I miss out on content if I keep the Amazon order?

"an extra 1000 questions to tie brains in knots with. Plus, there's a bonus 500 videogame-themed questions, and a quiz on African wildlife"

The questions are the only thing that is different from any other version.
You can buy the Wildlife questions and will be able to buy the video game questions from PSN

Everything else is the same.

The problem with PS3 Buzz is that every round is EXACTLY the same. No variety. The pie throwing is retarded to begin with and boring as hell after the second time.

Sure, the questions are different, but that's it. One think I like about Scene It, is that despite it's lower production values, it gives you a LOT more variety, with many different game types that come around each time etc, and the option to have a short or long game.

If I could have Scene It + Questions on topics other than movies + Buzz's production values then I'd = happy.

Can, say, two people on the same PS3 play Buzz! TV Quiz online against two other people now? I tried it last week after the 300+ MB update and it didn't seem to work...

You can play 2 vs 2 but with each pair controlling 1 character - if that makes sense

Rumours are that they may be fixing this at a later date so that its multiple characters from either sofa. But at the mo you and your friend can only answer for the same character.
