Burnout "Cagney" update delayed on 360

Cagney and Latey. PS3 unaffected.

Criterion has pushed the Xbox 360 "Cagney" update for Burnout Paradise back by four days.

It appears there may have been a hold-up in authentication, with the only explanation on the developer blog claiming Microsoft has it and will release it on 14th July.

The PlayStation 3 version is therefore unaffected and will go live next Thursday as expected. However, no Game Calendar events will happen until "Cagney" is live on both formats. Details of the first calendar events are expected next week.

"Cagney" will be the third significant update to Burnout Paradise so far. Inside it are three extra modes: Road Rage, where four of you race through checkpoints while four others try to stop you; Stunt Run, where you do tricks at the same time to rack up points; and Marked Man, where you all gang up on one person to take them down before they can complete the course.

On top of this are 70 new FreeBurn challenges to get stuck into, a Hunter Olympus and secret Criterion car, fresh liveries, custom soundtrack support on PS3, and a host of bug-fixes asked for by you lot.

Criterion has additional updates "Davis" (with motorbikes and a day-night cycle) and "Eastwood" (with a new island) planned for August and autumn, respectively.

Head over to our Burnout Paradise gamepage for our review and all the pictures and videos to date.

At long last, I won't have to endure the ear-bleeding and mostly not really to my taste default soundtrack or play the game in near silence on my PS3! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! :)

Most pointless article i have read today.
  • DFawkes #3 4 years ago

Marked Man online will rock. Still loving Paradise.
  • asphaltcowboy #4 4 years ago

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • MasterNameless #5 4 years ago

Oh my God, some people just complain for the sake of it! Why the hell is this a pointless article?

It's a popular game, that I'm a bit sick of, I admit. Lots of people still enjoy it, and have been waiting for this update for a while now, it's perfectly bloody reasonable to have a news story telling us that the update has been delayed!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    +1
  • Darren #7 4 years ago

Yeah, I think so. I'm sure Burnout Paradise was mentioned along with Uncharted as being one the rare older PS3 games that will be getting Trophies.
  • StrayBezza #8 4 years ago

You can bet your ass that it would'nt have been pointless if the PS3 patch had been delayed..................
  • Steroyd #9 4 years ago

No that's in a not too far after Cganey update.

Awesome Marked Man online (why the hell was this not in at day one!!!) will hopefully make people start playing Burnout on my F list...at least i'd like to think that but it's going to be the trophy patch that will make them play on it again. >:(

Paradise has one of the best licensed soundtracks I've heard.
  • nbnz #11 4 years ago

This update "Cagney" does NOT have trophies. "Davis" does (next after Cagney)
  • Phily50 #12 4 years ago

what? the delay is on the 360? has the world gone mad?
  • APHIZM #13 4 years ago

hmm... may have to re-buy this
  • Darren #14 4 years ago

    @jonsaan - Well I'm glad I don't share your tastes in music then! :p

(I jest... everyone has different tastes but I find rock music mostly offensive to my ears and much prefer to drive to something techno, trancey or ambient, it suits racing games better IMO)
  • ParanoidZombie #15 4 years ago

I think EG brought up this news just because they were very proud of that "Cagney and Latey" line. Which is fine.

@Phily50 - Why is the 360 update being delayed?

Because Criterion don't like the Xbox 360 by... oooooooooooooooooooo... this much!

How much is that, you ask? Well, it's about four days! ;)
  • Garulon #17 4 years ago

"what? the delay is on the 360? has the world gone mad? "

The Bogart release coming out borked means Microsoft went over this with a fine tooth comb, I reckon, and found some Criterion screwup. The contempt this "multi-platform" dev house has for their best-selling platform is beyond belief.

These updates will be great. I love Burnout Paradise.
  • Darren #21 4 years ago

I was disappointed with Burnout Paradise to be truthful but the forthcoming motorbikes, day to night cycle and extra environment will hopefully make up for it somewhat and make it a better game. Great that it's all free. Very un-EA really.
  • monkie_king #22 4 years ago

Garulon: it's weird isn't it? They seemed to talk the 360 version down a lot during development, then when it came out both versions were identical. Listening to the Criterion podcasts they're clearly PS fanboys too. Maybe Microsoft did them a terrible wrong in a former life.
  • chrisjm #23 4 years ago

i wonder if sony payed them to 'delay' it.

Yes, a four-day delay on some free DLC for a six month old game could prove decisive in the console war.

"They seemed to talk the 360 version down a lot during development, then when it came out both versions were identical. "

I've never seen a dev shop so anti-360, the only thing I think it might be is Microsoft have a really strict requirements checklist and Sony just don't give a shit these days, which must suit a bunch of guys like Criterion and their wacky ideas really well - Burnout Paradise PC for example, which is getting a lot of expensive dev love with new shadow mapping and multi monitor support, despite the chances of PC users with the required kit bothering to pirate let alone buy a year-old console racing game that had mixed reviews (although I love it, natch) are about zero.
  • asphaltcowboy #27 4 years ago

Mixed reviews? It didn't get mixed reviews, it just had a lot of FUD from all the retards complaining about lack of restart, splitscreen and crash junctions!
  • johnnybrn #28 4 years ago

Didnt like Paradise so sold a week later as it was no longer the Burnout I knew and loved which is a pity as it will have bikes now.

    Meh!
  • Madafunkola #31 4 years ago

As I was counting down the days to get some new BOP love on my 360 - I am dissapointed, therefore this IS a worthy story. Unlike the 3 or 4 "news" stories off the back of the LBP interview.

    BTW - 360lol!!!11!!
    (I've not said that before)
  • estoo #32 4 years ago

These updates are free, right? I'm not about to complain for waiting a few days. I wish all devs were so generous with their DLC
  • Madafunkola #33 4 years ago

    @ estoo
This one is, but I have a sneaking suspicion the next one (with teh m0t0r81k35) won't be.
  • monkie_king #34 4 years ago

Yeah, they've got to monetise it somehow. It'll be nearly a whole extra year of dev work by the time that comes out, which they could have been putting into Burnout 7 (think we're upto 7 now, right?)
  • asphaltcowboy #35 4 years ago

wait, maybe it's because there are none left on Eurogamer.

    Steady on, you're still here!

And yes, the motorbike DLC will require payment.
  • TriggerHippie #36 4 years ago

Made it ma, top of the world!
  • Phily50 #37 4 years ago

I thought they said all the DLC packs would be free?

Ha ha, too right. It would be yet another example of how shit the PS3 is.

Is this the update that lets you drive like Sharon Gless?
  • spookyzombie #41 4 years ago

  • sargemat #42 4 years ago

hmm so the console that everyone is going to play it on has to wait. Not often its this way around.
  • chronom4n #43 4 years ago

Why are people complaining? i don't see people complaining about regular news updates. I mean this is a video gaming site which provides people with information about games which they like or otherwise. If you do not like the regular updates put up or put out! This is eurgamer.nets job and they are doing O.K. by me.
  • Pedrolot #44 4 years ago

    @ sargemat.

    Says who?

PS3 is the lead platform, and Sony are keeping Criterion sweet. Criterion also seem to prefer Sony and the Playstation.

No surprise, and this game is hardly unmissable in it's current, unfinished state.

It's a wonderful engine, however, so it's nice that they're getting round to finishing the game.

    Waiting for:

    - Midnight club style overhead arrow or rotating minimap
    - right-stick camera x-axis invert option
    - ability to jump to previously visited locations or restart races
    - online roadrage (every man for themselves)

I have the game sat here, being played once every month on average. I'll carry on playing more heavily once they've fixed the top 2-3 issues.
  • CrunchinJelly #46 4 years ago

I'm waiting for the patch where they add some colour to the game.
  • AJUK #47 4 years ago

It's pretty coolthat these DLC updates are all free though right? I mean most devs would make you pay for adding things like motorbikes or other new things that weren't even part of the game when it was released! Pretty cool, and definitely the first time I have seen a game getting so much continuing support after release.
  • bitesize #48 4 years ago

^ er, they're not gonna all be free. these early ones are cos they're just balancing/bugfixes, with maybe a few extra online modes + stuff. but the one with the motorbikes + the day/night cycle definitely ain't gonna be free.
  • asphaltcowboy #49 4 years ago

^^ Yeah, clearly AJUK didn't read the other comments before posting :)

I'm waiting for the patch where they add some colour to the game.

Er... there's loads of colour - LOOK! Blue skies!
  • AJUK #50 4 years ago

I'm pretty sure the podcast confirmed all the downloadable stuff as being free a while back?
