Well done to which ever guy at MS selected GoW over UT3 so far out from release.
And after seeing what Crysis can do on the PC, and CoD 4 and A Creed on 360 & PS3 - seems the UE3 just isn't what everyone was hoping it would be.
*shudders at thinking how the lack of antialiasing and crapola frame rate would have made ACreed look & play on the 360 had it used UE3.

“There's just no justice, is there?
Of course there is justice, of a sort - people are still making high quality games where you need a triple figure I.Q. to do well at it – unfortunately this has the knock on effect of shrinking it’s own market.
Need for Speed - has gone from it’s pinnacle as a classy driving game (3DO version) to this lowest common denominator drivel – which gives it mass appeal – style over content.
Seems to revolve around the argument of :- gamers who want to make the best game they possibly can and would like to play themselves (BioWare) to a company (EA) who simply wants to make the most money out of the industry and knows that that is not by making the best gamers game as this would close out a lot of potential purchasers.
Clearly the holly grail is making a gamers game with mass appeal – hence the rise of sandbox games where everyone can get something out of it – even though most of the people only able to enjoy the sandbox element of say the GTA games, shouldn’t actually be playing them at all according to the BBFC.

That says something about console gaming methinks.

Unfortunately - as the popularity of games increases - the complexity and skill required seems to nose dive in equal measure.
Maybe it will just happen in waves, as their base skill increase's so will mainstream games, until the cycle starts again.
Hard to say - but I am happy for all comers.
I see games like Draughts(checkers) and Chess.
I started on draughts and now love the complexity of chess - and I am happy to teach anyone who likes the idea of having a game of chess even though they do not yet posses any skill and very little knowledge - and the interest has been borne of playing draughts.
EA are very good at making a variety of games based on draughts - which they sell alot of to the wider public.
Chess - is much more for the discerning or refined gamer who is seeking to be challenged as well as entertained.
**IMO** The real distinction between the two sets really comes down to this - some people can have fun gaming without being challenged - and for some people overcoming the challenge is the fun.
P.S. Obviously there are the sandbox games that straddle the two where even those seeking to be challenged still enjoy the simple fun of playing in the environment – like I did in Crackdown (just wish I hadn’t played the demo so many bloody times as it took the edge off the game for me).
p.p.s. that is the first time I have even written the word Draughts in my life and would say that my first Draughts set was a ZX81 lol.

I was debating to put a star next to Halo and explain it as a special case because I wasn't so sure if it had officially launched on Tuesday/Wednesday.
I thought it leaked on Wednessday but it's official release date was Friday.

It's been in the chart forever. It must have one of the highest Returns on Investment of all games ever made since it cost about £25 to make.
