360 owners unlock fourth BF1943 map

A little way still to go on PS3.

EA has announced that the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 1943 is the first to unlock the Coral Sea map.

Coral Sea, which also introduces the Air Superiority gameplay mode, is unlocked in response to 43 million kills, and the 360 version, which launched last Wednesday, appears to have gotten there in a neat week.

PS3 players still have a little way to go, according to the BF1943 website counter, which puts their efforts at just under 25 million kills at the time of writing - although the PS3 version did launch more than 24 hours later than the 360.

Check out our Battlefield 1943 review to see why so many people are obsessing over the game, and let us know what you make of Coral Sea.

The contest started on the 10th of July for both consoles so 'we' didn't get a headstart. Xbox 360 gamers are probably just more fanatic and bigger in number.

I've been playing this game quite a bit and it is awesome, loved it when it came out back in 2002 and it is nice to find that i still own at it :p

4 maps now? Think this is worth a download!

Come on EG! No reverse gear in the review and now incorrect info about headstarts.... Standards are slipping. I hope no one is writing their articles sitting in a beer garden drinking Bulmers and eating caeser salads.

    I think I contributed about 20 kills to that 43million! :-O

Love this game, driving tanks straight through buildings to ambush unsuspecting snipers is just awesome

I have to say that even as a big fan of EG and someone who hates people moaning about inaccurate review scores (opinions etc etc), the number of FACTUALLY incorrect things popping up seems to be increasing. It's very frustrating knowing that you're feeding misinformation to others.

What’s worse is you hardly ever edit the items like other well known sites, and even if you do, you do it covertly with no mention of the fact your loyal readers pointed the error out to you.

    >And more awesome ;)

Yeah is always shoot 2 people with one bullet! ;)

I think what the article was saying is that the 360 version has been out longer so there has been more time for owners of 360s to download the game.

Obvioulsy eurogamer know that the clock for kills was started at the same time on both consoles!

I can't believe that the PS3 version has only hit half the number of kills! Maybe sony brought out a system update which is taking hours to download and then hours to install?!?

Or it could be the lack of communication between squads as no-one playing has a headset?!?

I find it hard to believe that there are still more people with 360s than with PS3s!?! That can't be true. Maybe they should release it on the PS2?

Maybe Xbox 360 owners are just better at dying? I mean, for 43 million kills, there has to have been 43 million deaths :p

@Teamallstar: Almost all the people I know having both PS3 en Xbox 360 prefer playing BF1943 on the 360. I find Xbox Live's Friends network being way better organized than PSN's

On the upside, BF1943 on the PS3 is 100% lag free in my experience.

Going to try it out now. I'm a flyboy, so it should be fun!

    EDIT: It's SERIOUSLY fun!

How do you access this map? I pray it hasn't been added to the rotation. I paid my points for an fps not a flight combat game. I wish they released a proper map to celebrate the 43 million rather than this non infantry one.

"Play Air Superiority" down near the bottom of the menu.

I'd like to play this, got the demo on monday... couldnt get into a single game.
I'll wait till they've the server stuff sorted out before forking over for the full game thanks.

This result is no surprise to a blatant 360 fanboy such as myself. 360 has a better online experience that encourages people to play together. Therefore, it's no surprise that the 360 hit the online target before the BS3 peeps. It's all about the party system!

I killed 3 trees last night - does that count?

"On the upside, BF1943 on the PS3 is 100% lag free in my experience. "

Actually my experience of the 360-version is that it is lagfree and that it now is easy to join games. I rarely have issues anymore to join games so they must have added a bunch of servers now.

True, problems seem to have been fixed/improved dramatically.

Still, I can't fly for shit so Coral Island gonna be seeing lots of me in small pieces
