36 new Virtual Console games

Due in Q1 in Europe.

Nintendo UK has said that 36 new games will appear on the Wii's Virtual Console in Q1 of 2007, including Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario World.

Nintendo formatted titles will also include Street Fighter II: World Warrior and Super Probotector, while Streets of Rage and others will appear for Mega Drive and Soldier Blade, Double Dragons and New Adventure Island will be among the TurboGrafx titles.

In total there will be 20 titles for Nintendo systems, 7 TurboGrafx-16 games and 9 Mega Drive titles, apparently, and we can expect some of them very soon.

The platform holder also reiterates that it will soon be allowing people who use its Nintendo-Europe.com "Stars" loyalty scheme to redeem Stars against Wii Points.

Goldeneye I found his weakness... boom boom boom ba baaaaaa...

I knew there was a reason for me saving all of my stars points since it started!

Streets of Rage! Class... OOT I have for the cube anyway in the special Zelda Disc. Super Mario World would be ace! It is still one of the best things they ever did.

That stars deal is amazing, finally they serve a purpose, other than metroid screensavers I mean...

    I'd like some:

    Goldeneye
    Space Station Silicon Valley
    Duke Nukem:Zero Hour/64

However I'd really like them to be treated like the Live games...
Not so much leaderboards as online multiplayer...

You can get a Goldeneye game cartridge on Ebay for about £3 and an N64 console for about £10.

Wouldn't that effectively make that a bigger selection of choice than XBLA?

    Me like very much. :)

Might get a Wii this christmas afterall.

    @chupachups

I have N64 and Goldeneye already as it is officially Greatest Game EVAH in my eyes. I just don't want to have to get it out and plug it in ;).

And an N64 controller without a borked analogue stick for... oh wait there aren't any of those left are there :(

lets hope they put some decent value to the stars. 250 stars for a poxy wallpaper is a bit much considering you have to buy a full priced game get 250.

    I currently have over 5,000 waiting :-)

Ah but Ninty hasn't said what the exchange rate from Star to Wii points is yet.

Still better than nothing I suppose.

Got Gunstar Heroes the other day. I think it's worth the £5 I effectively paid for it.

Quite impressed by the fact that you can save VC games at any point and resume the game next time you play.

Yup, the "suspend" feature is good. A mate and I are playing Military Madness, sometimes for a few turns, sometimes a few scenarios. But any time we can pick it up, we start at the exact same spot we left it.

"Wouldn't that effectively make that a bigger selection of choice than XBLA? "

But how much of it is new games like you can get on XBLA? In this case new games that use the features of the Wii or are they just getting you to buy your old games all over again.

They're coming.. Just like it took a while for arcade to get a decent selection...
  • theweaze #21 5 years ago

    Just buy the ds version?
  • ekko #23 5 years ago

Please don't assume 1 star = 1 point. I'm wishing it will but I can't ever see Nintendo being that fair, especially to Europeans.

I must say, the games available on VC is way more interesting than most of the stuff on XBLA. Not getting a Wii, but it sure makes me envious. Are the games as easily obtained and played as on the 360? I really think MS did a good job (apart from the indexing of and the actual content) with Live Arcade. The games feel well integrated in the dashboard, with the leaderboards and connections to your gamercard etc.

I think that's the main benefit of Live. How everything is tightly connected and nicely tied together. That actually feels truly next generation, as compared to the confined space of the previous generation of consoles. While there was internet play, buddy lists and all that, it was still not the same feeling of connection between the components.

I get a feeling the VC is more of a black box though. You enter VC mode, play that game but you could just as well be playing it in MAME or on your old consoles... Am I right there? No online interaction of any kind? Not talking multiplayer here. People asking for online coop in Double Dragon and online Mario Kart are just asking for too much.

I want some old school RPG's please! Specially the ones on the SNES and Megadrive I missed or didn't play much.

Shadowrun would probably be the best VC evah!!
