The new Riddick game is The Merc Files for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Ex-Starbreeze devs involved.

There is indeed a new Riddick game coming out, as Vin Diesel teased - and it's an iOS exclusive.

Riddick: The Merc Files is an iOS game from some of the people who worked on Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. It's out on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch this Friday, 20th September.

Riddick: The Merc Files is a touch-based stealth action game set in the Riddick universe and closely tied to the latest movie, Riddick: Rule the Dark.

You play see-in-the-dark anti-hero Riddick, as you'd expect, and hunt mercenaries.

The Merc Files is the result of a collaboration between Vin Diesel's game company Tigon Studios and Gaming Corps, a new developer founded in December 2012 in Uppsala, Sweden by Nicklas Dunham and Jens Larsson - both former executives at Starbreeze Studios.

Earlier this month Diesel set tongues wagging when he appeared to spill the beans on a third game in the Chronicles of Riddick series.

He said it was being developed by Starbreeze team members who worked on 2004 prequel Escape from Butcher Bay, which expanded the Riddick movie series' world with its own story, and Tigon.

"My diehard gamers want Tigon to deliver the third chapter in the Riddick game," Diesel explained. "We, just of the past couple of months, just this year, reassembled that team from Starbreeze that brought Escape from Butcher Bay to create the third game."

It sounds like Diesel was talking about Riddick: The Merc Files. Will there be another big budget Riddick game? Gaming Corps describes itself as "a complete studio aiming for all the major gaming platforms no matter if it's an AAA development for the hardcore audience or a social game implemented on Facebook". And, according to Tigon, The Merc Files is "the first new installment in the ongoing Riddick saga".

Time will tell.
