Watch us play the Flashback remake from 5pm BST

New Delphine-o.

The original Flashback was, I think a fair few of you will agree, something of a gem, a slick slice of 90s action that hasn't really dated thanks to its gorgeously smooth rotoscoped animation. So it's with equal parts excitement and trepidation that I learnt of a remake, with French developer Paul Cuisset returning to his creation after over 20 years.

He hasn't exactly had it easy in the intervening years, so it's going to be fascinating to see how he goes about revisiting the game that made his name. The new Flashback restores much of the back story that was cut from the original - a game that, bizarrely, started life as tie-in for The Godfather - and layers on 3D graphics. I'll admit to being underwhelmed when I first played it upon its announcement, though I'm hoping that's because it was an early build and nostalgia was still misting my vision. Ian Higton's streaming Flashback from 5pm BST today, so hopefully that will help give a much clearer view.

Flashback's coming out as part of this year's Summer of Arcade - which given how Microsoft is ditching the Live Arcade moniker could well be the last - on August 21.
