Diablo 3 won't hit PS4 until 2014

And presumably also Xbox One.

Diablo 3 launches 3rd September on PS3 and Xbox 360, but it won't arrive on PS4 (and presumably Xbox One) until 2014, Blizzard has said.

In other words, not until a while after the expected November/autumn release of the new consoles.

"The Diablo 3 team has actually just received the new PS4 development kits so the translation for that platform is yet to be done," noted Diablo Fans in a summary of a lengthy interview with Blizzard's Josh Mosqueira, Travis Day and Wyatt Cheng.

"Diablo 3 will not be a launch date title for the PS4. It will come in 2014."

An update to the summary article reiterated that the developers made no announcements regarding an Xbox One version of Diablo 3 during the interview. All references to next-gen console development were in relation to the officially announced PlayStation 4 game.

The given reason for holding back on the PS4 version was to tailor it specifically for PS4. Apparently Blizzard is keen to use the DualShock 4 touchpad and the Share button.

Blizzard also explained that when an expansion arrives for Diablo 3, the plan won't be to ship it simultaneously across all formats; as above, the goal will be to tailor it for each.
