Kojima: Xbox 360 disc size to blame for lack of Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection

"When it's the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release it."

Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection won't come out on the Xbox 360 because of that console's game disc size, according to Hideo Kojima.

Kojima explained that he had wanted to release the collection for Xbox 360, but the PlayStation 3-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 could only fit on a PS3 Blu-ray disc.

"The amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous," Kojima explained on his radio show (thanks, Kotaku).

Metal Gear Solid would need around seven DVDs, Kojima's co-host said, as opposed to one dual-layer 50GB PlayStation 3 blu-ray disc.

"I want to put it out," Kojima continued. "But we won't be releasing it.

"When it's the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release it. If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it's not The Legacy Collection."

The compilation contains everything a Metal Gear fan could want: Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid, the HD versions of MGS2, MGS3, Peace Walker, the Trophy Edition of MGS4, the Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and a number of Metal Gear digital graphic novels.

The Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection will be released in North America in June. A European launch has yet to be confirmed.
