Runner 2 trailer says f*** your 8-bit nostalgia

Running out of time.

Gaijin Games Atari-inspired Bit.Trip series' follow-up Runner 2 has revealed its art style to be a decidedly different aesthetic from its predecessors.

"Imagine a world where everything is 8-bit, where your greatest retro dream come true," said the trailer.

"Well f*** that place!"

Runner 2, the sequel to Bit.Trip Runner, opts for more modern visual sensibilities with 2.5D environments, polygonal characters and a lot more shifting scenery. Some levels appear 8-bit, however, hearkening back to the NES days - which is still an era ahead of the original series.

Mechanically Runner 2 looks to share a lot in common with its forerunner. You automatically run forward and must jump and slide over and under obstacles and monsters.

See it in action in the new PAX Prime trailer below.
