Final Fantasy 14 Version 2.0 becomes FF14: A Realm Reborn

Think of it as latest title in the series, says Squenix.

The Version 2.0 overhaul of MMO Final Fantasy 14 will henceforth be known as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.

Producer/director Naoki Yoshida said we should think of it as "the latest title in the Final Fantasy series".

It's not live yet; the FF14 being played at the moment is the old and much maligned version. That old world will be destroyed when A Realm Reborn arrives on PC first and then PS3.

The 'when' of all this isn't set in stone. The new trailer below simply says "coming soon".

Eurogamer saw Version 2.0/A Realm Reborn behind closed doors at E3 this year. There, we discovered, an alpha stress will happen in September, and that will eventually move into closed and open beta.

That's a lot to cram into the autumn - maybe we're looking at 2013.

The PS3 version is on course for a Q1 2013 launch, we were told.
