Jet Set Radio HD out this summer on PC, PSN and XBLA

First screenshots released.

Jet Set Radio launches on Windows PC digital download, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, Sega has announced.

Sega described the Dreamcast port as an "upgraded HD version". The distinctive cel-shaded adventures of Tokyo graffiti rudie Beat debuted on Dreamcast back in 2000, followed by a sequel, Jet Set Radio Future, on Xbox in 2002.

Meanwhile, Sega has announced a competition for US and UK gamers that offers fans the chance to design 18 brand new pieces of in-game art that will feature in Jet Set Radio.

Winners get a prize pack that includes a Rukus from Etón Corporation - the world's first Bluetooth sound system with solar power - and other gubbins. The official website has more.

@INSOMANiAC Crazy Taxi wasn't a port really, just emulated with different music. This will be far better I'm sure. Hopefully it'll eradicate the shocking frame rate issues the original Dreamcast version suffered with.

Looks better than I thought, and widescreen to boot. Hope it's not to hard though, as I've only played the Xbox version. (Jet set radio future)

Fantastic. Great thing is the cel shaded graphics and gameplay style I think will work just as well now as it did originally. Plus the soundtrack is still immense, this game hasn't aged at all and I hope it finds many new fans, like the Judas' who abandoned Sega and ignored it when it was releasing all these great games. If they announce a proper Shenmue HD update I can die happy (free playing it again).

I'll finally be able to check this out then, never played it on the Dreamcast. Hopefully it will appeal to me more than Space Channel 5 Part 2 on XBLA, never played that one either and was quite a bit disappointed when I found out what it really was. Maybe the demo just didn't do the full game justice though.

Wow, PC. I have to say, didn't have a Dreamcast long enough to play through this, and the Xbox version just didn't live up to the predecessor, even though that was pretty decent as well.

But now that it's coming to PC, it'll be forever engraved onto my Steam account, which means I'll never lose the chance to play it again. Unless Steam goes down. Or Windows 8/9/10/whatever.

Which soundtrack will it have? (PLEEEEEEEASE THE JAPANESE ONE, SEGA!)

Also - which TEXTURES will it use? I noticed when playing my Japanese (Imported as soon as it was released) and European (Bought on launch day) editions that some characters had changed in the intervening months, little details like a different texture on the trousers, or a slight alteration to the pattern of a hoodie. It seemed quite odd that they'd bothered to change little details like that between releases.

I'm guessing it will most likely be based on the US/EU version, given that it's the release with two extra levels. (Impressed they put that together in such a short timeframe, makes you wonder how much they could have crammed into it if the DC used DVDs - OH WAIT - that would be JSRF and all its many, many zones!)

@Retro_ the original version was pretty solid framerate-wise apart from the tacked on Grind City stages. They're filler than weren't part of JSR anyway though and it shows in the huge drop in quality.

God, I miss this SEGA. They had so many good teams working on games, almost all of the Dreamcasts 1st party games were brilliant. I've never considered myself a fanboy except with the Dreamcast, I hated the fact that the soon to be released (and inferior at launch) PS2 stopped millions of people buying a Dreamcast.

I really hope Sega don't mess this up, memories of Crazy Taxi and Space Channel 5 2 are ports are still fresh in my mind. But a good version in HD, widescreen and with fixed draw distances? THat would be great.

@Yuroko Even if it wasn't the best console ever, Dreamcast will still always be my favourite gaming system.

For me 1999-2002 really was a golden period of magic and wonder. So many unique and different titles. Everything seemed exciting.
