US/Japan-only PSone games for PSN

Sony asks for suggestions.

A selection of PSone games that have until now never seen release outside of Japan or the US are being prepared for a European PSN release, Sony has announced.

A post on the PlayStation Blog wouldn't confirm exactly what titles are coming or when they'll be available, merely stating "there are a few that are already in process".

It asked users to make suggestions in the talkback thread, with Sony promising to approach the publishers of the most requested titles about a possible release.

When the games do launch, they'll be published "as is" with either English or Japanese language content where available.

All titles will run at 60 Hz and you'll need a 60 Hz display to play them properly.

The post offered a little more detail about the sort of games that the initiative will, and won't, cover:

"If a PAL version of a title has been unable to pass QA in SCEE, but the NTSC version is already available on the PlayStation Store in SCEA or SCEJ, we can look at publishing that version instead.

"We cannot simply take the US version and publish it immediately, as it has to be reprocessed for SCEE, but at least we know the title should already be relatively bug-free.

"Please note: This does not mean we can publish titles that have not legally cleared for release in SCEE territories as a result of expired licenses, etc."

Silent Hill(it came and went on the EU store for some reason)
    Parasite Eve 1
    Chrono Trigger
  • Eraysor #2 10 months ago

    chrono cross!!!!!!!!!

I'd love to see Jade Cocoon released outside of Japan as well, as that's the only place it's available on PSN at the moment.

frod-i think only the PS3 phat people would be able to play them,as the new PS3s haven't got the hardware to play PS2 games(i think anyway, unless SONY could update the new PS3s somehow)

EDIT1:so have i put the wrong Chrono game on my list then?

EDIT2:RottingYoda-i have Crash Bandicoot, had it for a few years, just looked and its currently £3.99 on the EU store

SaGa Frontier and Chrono Cross please.
  • DrDamn #8 10 months ago

    @rottingyoda
I think you missed the point here. This is for PSOne titles which were never, ever released in Europe - even when the machine was available and going strong. Toshinden and Crash don't fit that - in fact Crash Bandicoot was released recently on PSN wasn't it?

Final Fantasy Tactics stick out as one for me - though you can now play on PSP, iPad etc anyway.
  • menage #9 10 months ago

Chrono Cross!!!! Never got why the game didn“t make it here.
  • andywilkie35 #10 10 months ago

Dino Crisis, Xenosaga, Chrono Cross and Spyro's 2&3 dammit!

Are Resi 2 and 3 out on Euro PSN yet? If not them, then them too!
  • silversun #11 10 months ago

This is great news , for sony side of it I would not mind see wild arms 2 come over.
  • JoeGBallad #12 10 months ago

There are far far too many games to choose from, but Xenogears gets a big thumbs up from me.

  • LEDgar #14 10 months ago

    mojib ribbon

edit: dominalien is right, my bad --- ok, i will settle with vib-ribbon (though a proper remake would be even better)

    Fighting Force 1.
  • dominalien #17 10 months ago

    You realise that's a PS2 game, right?
  • Flying_Pig #18 10 months ago

Another vote for Chrono Cross. Recently completed Chrono Trigger, so I'd love to play the sequel :)
  • Shinomo #19 10 months ago

Not been watching the PsOne library too carefully so I may be behind the times (I may also be misinterpreting what's being asked of us), but I'd like to see Xenogears make an appearance on the PSN store in Europe if it hasn't already. I've heard seriously good things.

  • Toothball #25 10 months ago

I'm wary of getting excited about this. They said they'd be working on a bunch of games in January but some of those have yet to materialise.

    @mumblyjoe

Parappa is less likely to appear since it features a lot of music. That seems to have been a problem with digital releases and music licensing in the past. Would be great to see it on PSN though.

    @Toothball
It was also released in Europe, so I'm not sure what that has to do with this news.

Parasite Eve came out over here too.

EDIT: So did Castlevania! You lot need to re-read the article methinks.

  • 32768Colours #28 10 months ago

Might I suggest everything you can?! I mean, okay, you have some licensing problems with some games and that's fair enough, but wherever you don't have such problems, just release it!! Why do you even need to ask?

In that sense, I actually find the question rather stupid!
  • betrayerofhope #29 10 months ago

the sCEE store is the biggest joke in playstation. run by a team of clowns.

nothing of worth shall ever come from this.
  • Kyaputen #30 10 months ago

What about "Robbit Mon Dieu"? It's a sequel to Jumping Flash!, and that's on PSN. right?

@LEDgar: Of course it was released in some regions ;-) There was a PAL Alundra, but it would be nice to have it on PSN..

There are loads of 2D shooters which never got a release outside of Japan. So all of them please.
I know a few of them are now available on the US PSN, in line with the article they were released unaltered, no translation etc. So I'm hoping this is the stuff we'll be getting.
  • inutaihanyou #32 10 months ago

Legend of Dragoon, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Marvel Vs Street Fighter, Evil Zone, Disruptor, Pandemonium 2, Soul Blade, Tekken 3, Megaman 8, Megaman X4X5X6, Need for Speed 2 ect ect
  • yuggy #33 10 months ago

SPYRO F**KING 2 PLEASE. Costs a bomb now on physical copy and that game was possibly the finest 3D platformer on PS1.
  • DrStrangelove #34 10 months ago

    @Psiloc

"Parasite Eve came out over here too.

EDIT: So did Castlevania! You lot need to re-read the article methinks."

I know quite well that Castlevania was available on PS1 in Europe. Problem is, it is available as a PSOne Classic on PSN in Japan and America, but not in Europe. I also want to have R-Types/R-Type Delta, both sharing the same fate.

I think the greatest problem aren't games that didn't come to Europe on PS1, it's games that didn't come to Europe in the Playstation Network.
  • metallicorphan #35 10 months ago

@Psiloc-Parasite Eve has never had a European release in any form,Parasite Eve 2 was released here however
  • StuDevo #36 10 months ago

I really want Parasite Eve 1
  • Irien #37 10 months ago

Surely the Suikoden series deserves a mention?

    And maybe Dragon Quest 7?
  • alcides #38 10 months ago

so, people basically have no clue what the article's about, what games came out here, which ones are already available on euro PSN, what's the difference between a PSOne and a PS2 game, or which PSOne games were already re-released as PSP titles.

You've got your work cut out for you SONY, good luck with that bunch :D
  • Rosswell #39 10 months ago

Hope the Twisted Metal games get put on the Euro PSN store
  • Psiloc #40 10 months ago

    @metallicorphan
Ah, never knew PE1 never made it over here. Fair enough, good request then in that case!
  • Toothball #41 10 months ago

    @Psiloc

Oh, I know it was released in Europe. It was the last game I bought for PS1 actually, as I got it a few years back when I chanced across a copy. I just think it's unlikely to appear on PSN.
  • johnny_death #42 10 months ago

    Policenauts.

    That is all.
  • Rek #43 10 months ago

    Xenogears, purlease!!
  • bemani247 #44 10 months ago

@LEDgar Alundra 1&2 were released in the UK I believe.

Would like to see V-Rally, GTA 1+2, Exhumed and Bushido Blade
  • Mister-Wario #45 10 months ago

I know this is technically an EU game anyway, but whatever happened to Tombi being released on PSN? I played the hell out of that demo but it's hellish expensive to buy now.
  • wez_316 #46 10 months ago

How is Spyro 2 super expensive? It's on ebay for £8.50 delivered at the moment on platinum and £11 for black label :| Wouldn't exactly say it costs megabucks like the previously mentioned Tombi
  • miseryguts #47 10 months ago

A few japanese games i would personally like to see (but would never happen)

    Umihara Kawase Shun
    Ore no Ryouri
    Persona 2: Innocent Sin
    Harmful Park
    70's Robot Anime: Geppy-X
    Kyuinn/Vacuum Kids

  • Cryotek #48 10 months ago

The problem with making suggestions is Sony Europe will find a way to screw Euro customers needlessly for months, if not years. I would settle for being on a par with the US store FIRST, then maybe they should consider doing more with it. To be honest, i seriously question their competence.
  • TaniumZX #49 10 months ago

Do people actually read the articles on here before they go bumbling into the comments section??
  • bluetoothion #50 10 months ago

I think if parasite eve ever got released in Europe i d know......
  • ToAks #51 10 months ago

HERMIE HOPPERHEAD SCRAP PANIC please, japan only with english text etc. done by Sony Japan Studios.

If you have Playstation on your Facebook, they recently asked people what are our most memorable games from PSOne. Maybe it's related to this....?
  • RawNinjaKid #54 10 months ago

    Sounds promising.

60Hz title are so much better. 50hz PAL releases are a big CON.

  • Lemming81 #56 10 months ago

Um, how about ALL OF THEM? Seriously what reason do they have not to do that? No development time + free money = profit?
  • Alestes #57 10 months ago

I LOVE these news! Games I want to see.

    Brave Fencer Musashi
    Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
    Chrono Cross
    Final Fantasy Tactics
    Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
    Legend of Mana
    Suikoden
    Suikoden II
    Threads of Fate
    Xenogears
    Valkyrie Profile

And whenever they start to do PS2 games on PSN (when the PS4 is released?) the first game I want to see then is Suikoden III as it was never released in Europe.

Why not just release games at 60hz anyway? Why would I want to buy the inferior 50hz Final Fantasy 9 for example where you couldn't get all the treasures and get the Excalibur 2 because the clock ran at the right speed but the game ran too slow, and with massive borders. If people are still using CRT that can't do 60hz they probably still have a playstaion 1 or 2 that they could play these games on.
