Game: MW3 to smash pre-order record

Moves past Black Ops with ease.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is smashing UK pre-order records.

UK specialist shop Game said today the Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games' created first-person shooter is breaking the company's pre-order record – set by last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Black Ops was Game Group's largest pre-order and best-selling title in the company's history.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders are already tracking significantly ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops at the same time last year," managing director Tom Devine said.

"We know that the Call of Duty brand and franchise has the most amazing fan-base and we've got some great surprises lined up for those who pre-order with us. We're looking forward to an incredible launch on 8th November."

Will Modern Warfare 3 outsell Black Ops?

Between its November launch and January this year Black Ops netted Activision more than $1 billion in sales, making it the fastest-grossing video game of all time.

"In all of entertainment, only Call of Duty and Avatar have ever achieved the billion dollar revenue milestone this quickly," Activision boss Bobby Kotick said.
