Old Gears Achievements unlock new stuff

Anya shall receive.

Achievements earned in old Gears of War games unlock new things like skins in Gears of War 3, Epic has revealed.

For instance, if you had the gold Hammerburst or Lancer in Gears of War 2, you will have the same weapon skins in Gears of War 3.

And if you did anything in Gears of War 2 or Gears of War PC, you will get a chrome weapon skin in Gears of War 3.

What level you got to in Gears of War 2 multiplayer doesn't matter, explained Gears 3 executive producer Rod Fergusson - it's what Achievements you have that count towards future unlocks.

"Generally whenever we do unlocks, we do it based on Achievements," Fergusson told MTV Multiplayer.

"That's why I've been trying to tell people about the level 100 thing. No, it's not about getting level 100, it's about Veteran Gear. Get that Achievement and that'll get you something.

"I don't care if you're level 100," he added, "you have to have the Veteran Gear Achievement."

The Veteran Gear Achievement is yours for reaching level 100 and winning one match on each of the four Gears of War 2 Snowblind maps.

Gears of War 3 arrives this autumn. Eurogamer's most recent coverage was a Digital Foundry dissection of the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta and the technical capabilities of Epic's new game.

As long as I don't have to defeat that bat covered prick at the end of Gears 1 on Insane again. It was disheartening enough, never mind losing the achievements after rrod and a new live account started.

Edit: did that. recovered tag and lost achievements. wasn't going to replay such classics as area blacksite 51 to get them back.

So its not about reaching Level 100. but you have to get to Level 100 to unlock "Veteran Gear" - confusing much?
They can just fuck off - they set the XP too high in Gears2. Good luck to you if you're there but not something I'll be getting

    @carlitoswagon

There is a recover gamertag option, you know.

Oh I finished Gears of War on the PC.

Don't see how much good that does me when the other two games never even made it across.

"No, it's not about getting level 100"

Correct, it's about getting to level 100 and buying the DLC pack you need to be given any kind of reward for reaching level 100. Sneaky Epic.

Bah, it's just a cheap way for them to make people buy the Gears of War 2 DLC

No doubt another bonus XP weekend will appear sometime soon...Leve 100 is a long way to go tho !

As for 'I dont care if your level 100, you just need the achievement' - only way I can see you can get sid cheev without actually getting 100 .. is to cheat or hack your account maybe... Which it sounds like hes advocating.. Prick

And didnt the gold guns come with special editions or something ? Didnt know there was a cheeve for buying special edition (sarcasm)

I do like the idea of linking in game content to achievements. I wish more games did it.
  • tomjoadsghost #9 11 months ago

@bigdannyh, i'd like it more if it was locked into your game save files rather than acheivements, but i do kind of like having games reference stuff you've done in previous games in that series.

I've been playing Fable 3 recently (it does actually pick up a bit if you stick with it) and was kind of disapointed that it doesn't really do anything (so far at least) with existing fable 2 files - i was kind of expecting a statue of my fable 2 hero at least.

"wasn't going to replay such classics as area blacksite 51 to get them back."

I must be odd in the head, but I really enjoyed that game.

"Parents! If you think your kid might be interested in Gears of War, get them to check it out on Megaton.co.uk, our gaming site for kids. "

    This is a joke right?
  • Spunkweazle #12 11 months ago

Parents! If you think your kid might be interested in kerbstomping some c**ts face into a paste, or chainsawing a motherf**ker to chunks, the maybe you need to have a little talk with them

You can swear on the internet, it's ok. Your mum is not watching.

I hate to think how much you'd have to play to get level 100 legitimately. I got it during the ridiculous XP multiplier weekend (what was it, 40x?) and even then it took almost two days of doing that merry BING! BONG! CRUNCH! dance back and forth in King of the Hill games to get from level 50-odd to 100.
  • Inmediasress #15 11 months ago

Thes should introduce an achivement like: Torture the people to death who first introduced achivements into games!!!!!!
  • Xardan #16 11 months ago

I hope the achievements for Gears 3 arent too challenging. As much as i hate to admit it achievements are starting to effect the overall experience of a game for me, by quite a lot.

Cheevos for Gears 3 are not looking too bad, even Seriously 3.0 isn't that insane by comparison (reach level 100 and get onyx level for all medals). No surprise there IS a cheevo for doing all of the campaign in four player mode...
