Ubisoft announces Far Cry 3

Back to a tropical island.

Far Cry 3 will take the series out of Africa and back to a tropical island, Ubisoft has announced.

The game will be developed for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 by Ubisoft Montreal with help from Ubisoft Shanghai and Massive Entertainment. A release is pencilled for 2012.

In Far Cry 3, gamers are Jason Brody, "a man alone at the edge of the world". He's stranded on a "mysterious" tropical island; a "savage paradise where lawlessness and violence are the only sure thing".

You'll forge alliances and make enemies. You'll "slash, sneak and shoot". And the choices you make will shape the story and the outcome of the game.

A demo at Ubisoft's E3 press conference showed a more physical, brutal take, with violent melee attacks complementing the open-ended gunplay.

Knife throwing and a sticky cover system also featured in the demo, which retained the Heart of Darkness influence that Far Cry 2 introduced.

There was no word on release platforms or date.

Just saw the demo! First of all a big surprise seeing as we haven't heard squat from anyone about this and secondly...it looks incredible! Super stoked just a shame it won't be out till 2012...though we've got plenty of games coming out to keep us gamers occupied!

If they fix the many issues with the second one, like the constant gunfire, this could be brilliant.

This was easily my favourite from Ubisoft (not an Assassin's Creed fan). Could well be one of my favourites of E3. Some of the gunplay looked good fun, the writing and the acting was good and, uhh, the water looked nice. Especially with the bodies. That was cool.

Looks pretty damn good. Still a big fan of the original and i'm glad they're improving on the stealth elements of the game.

I hope that, unlike Crysis 2, it ain't shit.

    Look Good.

God I hope they keep the intergrated Wind and Weather system.

It made the world seem Alive and Real.

The graphics on PC version look really good so Far.

I don't know... Far Cry 2 was such a disappointment - just a sequel in name only. It's mission based open world was boring as hell compared to the intense sandboxes the original (and Crysis) had going on. This looks like more of the same just transported back onto the tropical islands of the original.

Of course Crytek had a brain fart and ruined Crysis 2 by turning it into "COD with a Nano Suit", so this might just be worth keeping an eye on.

Ubisoft deliver exactly what everyone was hoping for. The video gave such a positive Far Cry vibe I just sat there grinning like a complete loon. Bravo ubisoft, fucking bravo my son.
