Apple conference clashes with Microsoft

Xbox or iPod?

The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference keynote clashes with Microsoft's E3 presentation.

Apple will unveil iOS 5, Lion and iCloud at a keynote this Monday, 6th June at 10am.

Microsoft begins its E3 press conference 30 minutes earlier.

Apple core Steve Jobs will deliver the keynote flanked by a team of execs - pips.

The keynote kicks off Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, where more than 100 sessions explore all areas of Apple's enviable technology and software.

Xbox or iPod? Xbox.
• J0rdan_KZ #2 9 months ago

Apple conference: MAAAAAAAGIIICCCCC! Come sheep! Come! Let us feed you!

XBOX conference: Kinect MAAAAAGIIIICCCC! (oh and here's some games for you people who actually got us here in the first place)
• Anaardvark #3 9 months ago

Defo Xbox. Apple conferences are just the same old rehashed things with a couple of changes. At least Microsoft might show off a new game or 2.
• lcmnick #4 9 months ago

What is really amounts to is: Kinect v Yet another iterative update to a phone.

I pick neither :)
• matseffect #5 9 months ago

I will watch the apple one later, its always up on itunes and tbh get a bit boring after the first wile.
• Daikon #6 9 months ago

@kitsuneyo:

Why can't I have both? ^_^
• kitsuneyo #7 9 months ago

Yeah I forgot it would be Kinect-centric. I still pick Xbox though.

@Daikon - I don't know, I didn't pose the question. It's the subtitle of this news story.

Is that 10AM local time or 10AM UK time?
• mjselvig #9 9 months ago

Good thing I'm not an Xbox fan.
And as lonh as Steve Jobs is holding the press event: Defintely Apple! iOS 5, come to me.
• des #10 9 months ago

I might watch both if Apple has live stream, multitasking ftw.
• captain_Carl #11 9 months ago

Well seeing as an ipod isn't a gaming machine (loltouchgames), Xbox.

"Apple core Steve Jobs will deliver the keynote flanked by a team of execs - pips"

This is probably the most laboured attempt at a metaphor I've ever read.

That is all.
• Vlad27145 #14 9 months ago

There's no contest. I don't even have an xBox, nor plans to get one, but I'll still look at Microsoft's conference. 'Cause, you know Eurogamer, we're GAMERS!
• PixelPirate #15 9 months ago

The iCloud (streaming cloud storage for itunes music) is a big deal for a lot of people, as well as the new iOS.

The usual Apple conferences of "new ipod/iphone + flavour of the month gizmo" this isn't.

Clearly scheduled to keep the kinect crowd away from the MS conference.

• MrFlump #16 9 months ago

IOS5 will be a summary of new features which will be available soon. Its not even available to developers yet so its not a "we're launching this today" thing.

Lion is just an update for the server OS and I expect it will be a release date launch for it on the mac app store. As for iCloud... meh.

I'd rather stay on top of the E3 stuff as its probably going to be a lot more oriented towards gaming and I'll catch up with the release dates for the apple stuff easily after.

Point is really though that there isn't a clash. If you want the info from both, you'll get it. Its not like it's life or death.

Hopefully it will be a double announcement of Mac OS(lion) & Xbox both supporting Blu-ray at last.

I really want to move to Macs for my primary computing needs, but while they continue with Super drives(that aren't so super) it is not really an option.

iPod."

I think you've misread it.

"Defo Xbox. Apple conferences are just the same old rehashed things with a couple of changes."

Forza 4
Gears 3
Fable 12
Halo 17

Etc.
• utterdrivel #24 9 months ago

I've got two eyes, so I'll watch both.
• spekkeh #25 9 months ago

I don't really care for Apple playthings, it's all about games for me. However I was made to believe Jobs was on the brink of dying a couple of months ago, so I'm interested if he's going to show off iJobs 2 and what his new features will be.
• didac098 #26 9 months ago

Both!!! This is why I love tabs XD

Think I'll quote this for reference... I'm gonna guess that at least two of those items are not going to be talked about/announced

Since there (likely) won't be any new mobile hardware from Apple announced at WWDC if it's not coming until September (at least), there seems to be little to draw me to it.

Apart from a better notification system and the vector graphics version of Google Maps, I can't think of much else I'd want from iOS 5.

Actually, what I want is a standard bluetooth or dock-connector joypad interface, which would permit simple DS-esque digital pad and buttons to be built into a slip-on iphone case, rendering a good third of iPhone games that have been suffering unusable touchscreen dpads suddenly playable (Hello, Streetfighter and Sonic 4). I don't expect that to happen, though.
• Liquidoodle #29 9 months ago

Neither, I'll be watching Lexi Bell! :p
• RawNinjaKid #30 9 months ago

would be far more worthwhile....
• UncleLou #31 9 months ago

Neither, nor, but if you'd force me at gunpoint: Apple.
• jonbwfc #32 9 months ago

"Lion is just an update for the server OS"

That's, you know, wrong. Completely. Which kind of speaks to the validity of the rest of your predictions, frankly.

• StooMonster #33 9 months ago

Surely there's enough bandwidth in the world to stream both at the same time?

Or have two Engadget (other blog sites available) "live update" browser windows open at once?
• PixelPirate #34 9 months ago

OS5 will be a summary of new features which will be available soon. Its not even available to developers yet
Wrong, developers have had their hands on it for a while now

..Lion is just an update for the server OS..

Are you smoking crack?

Lion is the new operating system for Mac clients on the Apple website

And if you have seen at least one Apple conference you would know big Steve always likes to go "oh by the way you can buy it now"

So chances are the OS is ready to go, if not straight away very soon.
• PixelPirate #35 9 months ago

Surely there's enough bandwidth in the world to stream both at the same time?

@StooMonster

I wouldn't want to risk crossing the streams on a BT Broadband line.... ;-)
• geeza2020 #36 9 months ago

jonbwfc - explain why please. Some of us arent privy to the same info as you, obviously. Or you're statements are called into question as much as mrFlump's.
• arremelle #37 9 months ago

For me, Lion is the most important update of the lot. I am looking forward to seeing what improvements have been made to OSX beyond what has already been posted on the Apple website. This is really akin to MS releasing details of Windows 8.
• Scritti #38 9 months ago

Watch Steve Jobs get a round of applause from twats for announcing a new lead that fits into a new hole in a new mobile phone?? Phwoar, yes please!!!!

Alternatively, I may decide to spend the time more productively by pulling fluff from my belly button, forming it into a tiny ball and trying to whack it between 2 strategically placed matchsticks with my cock.

Hmmm , wonder if this will work out a PR coup or PR disaster for Apple .. it's a bold move for them but i will be honest with you nothing Apple announce could ever knock my socks off so i would be happy to wait a few hours to find out what they are up to.

Xbox for the lulz (Kinect)
• Markusdragon #42 9 months ago

I thought Jobs was on long-term sick leave.
• IronCladChicken #43 9 months ago

I'll probably skip both & catchup on anything interesting via the net.

2+ hours of conferences vs 2+ hours of gaming & 5mins of reading

... Yay lazyness!
• Pasco #44 9 months ago

I neither want to watch Microsoft execs' hapless attempts at stirring up enthusiasm for Kinect versions of 4 year old Wii games, nor do I want to watch Steve Jobs professionally stirring up enthusiasm for every little insignificant new feature they offer in an audience comprised of Apple-zealots and strategically placed paid applauders.

I will read the news and watch the game-trailers in super-fine quality as soon as the Microsoft conference ends.
• Quixz #45 9 months ago

As a gaming website Xbox presentation would make more sense leave the ithings to Engadget!
• ChocNut #46 9 months ago

I'm guessing that Apple are being the dicks here. The E3 time was booked and announced first right?

Normally I love the apple keynotes but this is just twatish.
• RodHull #47 9 months ago

Xbox conference please. Whenever I watch an Apple one I always feel like I'm not in on a big secret or something, which is frustrating as I'm both an iPod and Mac owner. The whooping that met that flappy cover for the iPad 2 was rather bewildering, as was the unanimous cheering for the ridiculously limited AirPrint service. At least the Xbox one won't require you to pray daily to his almighty Jobsness just to understand what the fuss is all about.

Oh, shut your cynical face. That flappy cover thing is AWESOME.

Xbox obviously.

I'm a gamer, not a cunt.
• BartonFink #50 9 months ago

Oh let me see this is a hard one. Listen to stuff about Xbox or listen to his royal twatness. Hmmm Xbox please.
Will watch the Apple one later for the lulz

Apple makes games consoles?
• FortysixterUK #54 9 months ago

Ok so Apple will have a new Iphone, New Ipod and a new Ipad. All vastly overpriced hardware.

Microsoft will have lots and lots of new games.

I vote Microsoft.
• Jolly_Armadillo #55 9 months ago

Which is more likely to hand out freebies? Free new iPhone? iPad? Or xbox?
• peterfll #56 9 months ago

Going on what's speculated I'm having a hard time generally amassing any enthusiasm for what MS might announce this year. Kinnect for me was a major anti climax. Would be delighted to be surprised tho. I'll watch it still.

I'm in the market for a new iPhone so its likely I'll multitask and watch both.

• Marshall2008 #57 9 months ago

Don't know how you can compare the two. This is just more eurogamer click bait.

WWDC is a developer conference and the content is always Developer centric. E3 is a game expo and shows titles and products coming over the rest of this year for end users.

As this is posted on Eurogamer you would expect the majority to tune in for the xbox presser and maybe a few will check out Apples brief at a later date or if they own any Apple products and want a peak at future OS updates etc.
• AOFanboi #58 9 months ago

Apple makes games consoles?
Going by the contents of the app store: Yes.

Oh, and then there were the Pippin back in the day.
• bladdard #59 9 months ago

Xbox hands down, I'll only watch the apple conference if they announce flash support for their crap web browsers.

• Farzlepot #62 9 months ago

Both will be dull and dominated by executive speak. Words like 'innovate', 'creative' and 'synergy' will be bandied around with little care for their true meanings.

I'll either be at the pub or playing games instead. Ta muchly.
• Popey687 #63 9 months ago

Considering that the iPod/iPhone are the worlds most prevalent gaming platforms right now then I pick the apple conference no contest, Kinect has not really taken the world by storm has it?
• el_pollo_diablo #64 9 months ago

@kmcroc

That's a fucking horrible thing to say. Why would you write that?
