Crysis 2 gets day one PC patch

Plus, no DirectX 11 support yet.

The PC version of FPS sequel Crysis 2 is only a day old in the US and it has already been patched up.

The update, detailed on the game's official forum, makes a number of tweaks, adding cheat detection, removing the auto-aim option wholesale and speeding up text chat. Here's a full list of fixes:

  • Server Browser shows incorrect pings - Fixed
  • Some matches never initiate - Fixed
  • Faster text chat - As speedy as can be
  • Console re-enabled - Console has been re-activated
  • Cheat detection - Now in place to ensure all users are on a level playing field
  • Fix USB headset issues – Current issues have been addressed and fixed
  • Fix hologram icon staying on screen after being used - Fixed
  • Remove Auto Aim - This has now been completely removed due to overwhelming community feedback

The patch will automatically download when you boot the game up.

Big Download has also noted that at present the game does not, as originally promised, support DirectX 11 visuals, leaving high spec PC owners slumming it with DirectX 9.

The Crytek-developed shooter storms European shores on Friday, with PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 directly in its sights.

"Story aside, Crysis 2 is a hell of a video game about shooting stuff," wrote Eurogamer's Simon Parkin during his 8/10 appraisal. "It's challenging, facilitates and then demands the use of tactics, and is more generous in scale than almost any other first-person shooter of the past few years."

"Remove Auto Aim - This has now been completely removed due to overwhelming community feedback"

Wow thank you really.. Fucking consoles fucking up with my PC games.
  • TackyCheeba #3 1 year ago

^@Crembo^ ...indeed, at least they re-enabled the console

"Why would you even need aim assist on the pc? bizarre"

Turning it on gives you a multiplayer advantage over those who have it turned off. I turned it on too in the demo because I didn't want to have a disadvantage. Glad they removed it altogether.

I am so pleased they removed that auto aim, it was annoying the crap out of me in the demo.
  • Haloboy #7 1 year ago

Minimum Auto Aim. And rightly so, thank you Crytek.

Wait, so is auto aim turned off for single-player too? I have shit aim and I like having auto-aim.
  • Feanor #9 1 year ago

I can't believe they thought PC players wanted auto aim.
  • trmaster #10 1 year ago

Aim-assist is disabled only in multiplayer.

PC version ships with DX 9, yet the 2008 original shipped with DX 10 (one of the first games to showcase that tech)

    That's progress for you.

Wow.. half-assed console port getting patched up to standard PC state, one patch at a time..

    I can't believe it's DirectX 9 too! Welcome back 2006.

That's console dumbing down for you... god damn Crytek, this means i won't support them for pulling a f'ed up stunt like that. Torrents here I come.

Couldn't they have made it so if you used the 360 pad (yes i know) it enabled it on or off? The only reason for it i could tell would be to help give the pad players during on-line play against m&kb users

I thought PC games where all about multiple config options not limiting them? Yeah OK, you don't want auto aim, turn it off then, pad players can have it on or off... whats the problem...?
  • trmaster #15 1 year ago

Aim-assist will work only in singleplayer, cheats don't have a place in multiplayer, even when playing with a pad.

Such a let-down. I hate the whole elitist PC attitude towards consoles but in this case I can clearly see the needs of console middleware bringing the peg down significantly for the PC version, and that's a sorry indictment of the PC games market today.

As long as it works in single player with a pad (yes, I know... but I like my couch).

Doesn't change anything. The game in extreme settings uses textures with the same size as in Xbox 360, has half of the polygon count of Crysis & Warhead (1.5 millions x frame instead of 3+ millions), lower water quality and poor AA and blur solutions (the TAA seriously hurst the image quality), not to tell that the mouse support is bad (laggy, 1/3 second behind your actions and with acceleration on). Due the poor settings menu you can only deactivate such laggy controls and abysmal TAA in the console commands.

    @Davisorle

Considering the ps3 version is unstable the PC version recieves first day patch and no DX11 they probably overestimated themselves a bit in going multiplat.
The other thing games are usually released unfinished if not else then for the sake of DLC.

    DirectX 9

    day 1 meh
  • tankboi #23 1 year ago

They obviously left auto aim on by accident, showing that they are clearly neglecting the market demographic that helped them achieve the fame and respect they have today.

Cheers Crytek. I hope the COD absolutists that you are trying so hard to appease don't pick holes in your game too much...good luck with that...because its not COD.
  • tankboi #24 1 year ago

    what about dx10?
  • MattyD #25 1 year ago

@tankboi It's confirmed for DirectX9.0c only at launch.
  • DePetri #26 1 year ago

Auto-aim only worked with a pad.

It seems that most PC gamers nowadays are only concerned with the graphics of a game. It's been a while since I've seen a PC gamer complain about the actual gameplay in a game. Who gives a shit if the game is in direct x 9 right now... it's still playable. You're all making it seem like it's the end of the world. And to Crembo and his comment about consoles 'fucking up' his PC games, why exactly do you need auto aim with a mouse? Are you literally that shit at games that you can't aim properly with a mouse?
