Ocarina of Time 3DS adds new content

It's "crammed with interesting things".

It seems that the upcoming 3DS revamp of N64 classic Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be more than just a scene-for-scene remake – Nintendo is adding exclusive new content too.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata made the announcement in an interview with creator Shigeru Miyamoto on the platform holder's official website, but stopped short of offering exact details of what's in store.

"Of course, the Nintendo 3DS version of Ocarina of Time is crammed with interesting things that weren't in the Nintendo 64 version," he teased, "but we'll wait to talk about those."

We already know that the game will include the extra Master Quest content that came with the GameCube re-release but we'll just have to wait and see what else Miyamoto and his team have in store. The game is due for release this June.

    Would it be too much to hope that it seamlessly continues into a full conversion of Majora's Mask?
  • Yuroko #2 1 year ago

    Then after Majoras Mask you unlock A Link to the Past rendered in an enhanced Spirit Tracks engine.

    For god's sake Nintendo, I'm buying the game already, quit revealing great things about it!
  • Cowbomb #5 1 year ago

    I want to believe!

    ...but they'll probably just be talking about the new features like gyroscopic aiming instead of proper new content.

    Considering Nintendo said they'll be doing something special for the 25th anniversary of Zelda, I wouldn't be surprised if we get some sort of a bundle. Perhaps that's why Ocarina 3ds was pushed back. It could be released as a Zelda 3DS Pack - with 2 or 3 games....I can dream right?

    I want it's loveliness now!!! When is it out?
  • Mister-Wario #8 1 year ago

    If you're adding new content, could you arguably take that and make a new Zelda out of it? That could be fun.
  • el_pollo_diablo #9 1 year ago

    I hope it's a deeply harrowing deleted scene involving that big talking tree and a logging company.

    you had me sold at 3d

    I think it's the "Hot LonLon" mod that allows you to make the Hylian no-pants dance with Princess Ruto.

    Please be the triforce quest that was going to be in the original

    Sorry to temper the crowing adulation in this thread but is this a good thing? All the extras in SuperMario 64 DS annoyed the piss outta me. Does the Mona Lisa of gaming really need some extra painting done on it?
  • darkmorgado #14 1 year ago

    @mazk

    If it's Ura-Zelda, yes, as people have been waiting since release for that expansion pack.
  • wizlon #15 1 year ago

    Ura Zelda would be pretty sweet.

    Here is a pretty good article on it for any interested parties: http://www.unseen64.net/articles/zelda64...

    Why don't people learn from previous experiences? Everyone saw who the commemorated Mario's 25th anniversary right? An absolute recycled disgrace, selling us All Stars all over again STILL not optimized correctly to run in the U.K at full screen/speed. Why you expect Zelda to get any better treatment is naive and ignorant. Ive owned all Nintendo consoles (and most handhelds) since the SNES but am not blinded by what it obviously lazy and cheap development.

    So Tingle is in?
  • koopa #18 1 year ago

    @higgins78
    Yeah, that was a cheap port, but OoT will be better since we already know it has improved textures and character models, control tweaks, smoother framerate and extra content. And it's in 3D of course.

    @Mister-Wario
    You do know that EAD is releasing a new Wii Zelda this year? And that they released a DS Zelda last year? That's a lot of Zelda from one team.

    What was wrong with the Mario 64 DS port? It's not all been crap.

    Sounds like OoT will be the only game to win the game of the decade awards twice. Really looking forward to the new content.

    You'd hope there was something extra as Ocarina of time was only 32meg and the enhancements so far look like about 2meg added to that, then the master quest maybe another 16meg being generous. They only have another 1998 megabytes to go to fill up a 2 gigabyte cartridge. I'd be very surprised if this is on more than a 128megabyte/1 gigabit cartridge unless they pile in loads of fmv and high quality music. Even so surely even maxed out with everything it still can't be more than 512megabytes. Totally not convinced that the 3DS has 2 gigabyte cartridges.

    The demo I played inside the Deku tree left me a bit cold, but if there is meaningful new content that makes the only perfect game ever made somehow better... man alive I'm all over this!
  • Mister-Wario #23 1 year ago

    "You do know that EAD is releasing a new Wii Zelda this year? And that they released a DS Zelda last year? That's a lot of Zelda from one team".

    Of course I do. It just seems odd that you're adding new stuff to an already established great when you could argubaly go the extra mile and make a 3DS title from scratch that stands on its own merits, not just nostalgia. Why are people negging me for wanting something new?
  • bdc #24 1 year ago

    'exclusive new content' is a bit redundant isn't it?
  • higgins78 #25 1 year ago

    @koopa
    I really hope your right, if they put the effort in to make this title feel fresh and relevant again we could be onto a winner. My concern however is all we are getting is superficial tweaks then I would likely have been way happier with a Spirit Tracks sequel, a game built from the ground up for Nintendo's 3DS. Also, I believe with Kid Icarus will put the Ocarina "remake" in the shadow if both are released close together.
  • v3rtigo #26 1 year ago

    TBH I really hope they put some significant new content in. I'm just not sure I want to play it again as it's probably the one game I've played repeatedly the most...I might be up to four times now. Mind you, once i see it with upgraded textures in 3D I'll probably quickly change my mind about that!
