EA's forthcoming Battlefield 3 FPS will cut a destructive swathe through Paris, New York and Tehran, according to retailer information.

Following this morning's Game Informer reveal, a GAME product listing dug up by Gamerzines has offered a few more details of what to expect from the shooter, due for release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

"In Battlefield 3, players step into the role of the elite U.S. Marines where they will experience heart-pounding single player missions and competitive multiplayer actions ranging across diverse locations from around the globe including Paris, Tehran and New York," it reads.

The listing goes on to pledge that you'll get to "watch buildings crumble and cover disappear as bullets and explosion tear through your surroundings! Even landmarks you recognise aren't safe from the destruction you'll inflict!"

We're taking that as confirmation you'll get to knock the Eiffel Tower over.

dear DICE please be careful with BF3. please don't try and make a COD killer. Just make a classic BF game with all the superb features that make BF great. That will be enough.

I can't stress this enough as well. I am looking forward to BF3 because of how fantastic BF2 was (skipped 2142) and because I don't want to play anything like COD. I think it will be alright though - with BF: Bad Company I think they have this genre covered and can focus on the traditional BF gameplay with BF3.

some more info that i am basically just going to retype for you to read in case you dont visit more than one gaming site.

64 players on pc. 32 on consoles. single player campaign plus a co-op campaign (which from the wording looks like it wont be the sp campaign but i could be wrong). jets. prone ( they heard me ) frostbite 2.

Could this finally be the game to conquer the mighty Call of Duty? Me and my workmates have recently seen the light and moved onto Bad Company 2 and we're having a blast. Taking into account the Infinity Ward shambles, the sour taste Treyarch have left in the mouths of PC and PS3 owners, the fact there seems to be four studios now working on the franchise and the ageing technology behind it all - what hope is there for the next COD? DICE are the masters of their own technology and have been doing this for years - I think 2011 could be the year Battlefield becomes top dog (in terms of sales and wider public awareness).

^ I doubt that. Not that BF3 won't be an excellent game. But the brand awareness of COD is just too big. Treyarch and Acti have gotten complacent about slapping minimal changes onto an existing game though and shipping it. So our biggest hope is probably Respawn at this time.

The Battlefield series is way better than the COD one.I have always liked COD for its cinematic,full of cliches single player action,but it was Battlefield that kept me coming back for one more round(of multiplayer of course).Any attempt to become COD would ruin the game.

im not sure if it will be released with rush, bit early to say either way i guess, im more interested in what they do with modes for clan play, like a skrim mode for 5-10 people using the existing maps. that sounds almost like rush though lol. you never know.

@Mcshifty Battlefield Multiplayer has ALWAYS been better than CoD multiplayer right from 2002 when the first Battlefield was created (yes before CoD existed) Just because Cod is the most popular game doesn't necessarily mean that its the best game of its type . CoD used to have excellent single player the first 2 on PC had breathtaking single player campaigns and Battlefield didnt even bother until the console Bad Company games .
Im glad you finally saw the light , one thing thats good about Cod is it keeps all the rude , annoying, music playing racist brats in one place and away form Battlefield .

I loved both the singleplayer and multiplayer of BF2, I found that the level structure was very versatile and that added to the MP. I like challenges that have multiple and varied solutions.

So, assuming the target market is US mainland we have... Paris for the twats who got all huffy that the French weren't willing to blindly drop their troops into the meat grinder on Uncle Sam's say so (unlike us - the 'special relationship' increasingly seems to resemble the kind new inmates can expect in maximum security prisons); and Tehran to whip up war fever, or at least cash in on bad feeling, against the Nasty Foreigners du jour as painted by the not remotely demented Fox News.
