SEGA Rally Online Arcade for PSN, XBLA?

SEGA stonewalls age rating leak.

What could SEGA tell Eurogamer about the Korean Game Rating Board's listing for SEGA Rally Online Arcade?

Nothing. "No comment," was all a spokesperson could offer.

The listing, filed by Sony Computer Entertainment Korea on 26th January, clears SEGA Rally Online Arcade for sale to everyone, young and old.

But the listing (spotted by Siliconera) reveals nothing more than that.

So what is SEGA Rally Online Arcade - a PSN and XBLA game? Likely; SEGA employed a similar tactic with OutRun Online Arcade in 2009, although that game was yanked off PSN because of contract expiration with Ferrari. Which was a great shame, as OutRun Online Arcade took home 8/10 on Eurogamer.

Plus, the world hasn't seen anything of SEGA Rally since 2007, when SEGA Rally raced onto PC, PS3, PSP and Xbox 360. Which is also a shame, for Eurogamer plastered a gleaming 9/10 to SEGA Rally's bonnet.

While the Korean Game Rating Board's listing offers no clues about a SEGA Rally Online Arcade release date, its existence suggests a finished product ready for launch. The game, excitingly, could be merely weeks away - if indeed it exists at all.

SEGA Rally, released 2007.

Sega Rally Revo was extremely underrated in my opinion. Looking forward to this, if it happens.

I would be happy with this 1200 point purchase. It was a crime that the rebooted Sega Rally wasn't more popular when it was released in 2007, but that's what happens when you come out the same day as Halo 3.

    GAME OVER YEAH!

I loved sega rally and bought the reboot on the back of that.

I think it was an an underrated gem and well worth picking up on the cheap.

Please be true, spent hours on my saturn playing this, 4 tracks & 2 cars kept me entertained for ages

In the first few hours of playing, the 360 version of Sega Rally was the best racing game I've ever played. The pressure was so intense I literally forgot to breath. :)

Absolutely loved the last version, and the original arcade is my favourite cab of all time.

Would be all over this like a rash.

I wish there where more games that we didn't hear about until a few weeks before their release.

*edit: I guess there would be if I didn't spend so much fricking time on this site.

    The linked Siliconera story says:

Korea’s “Game Rating Board” (GRB), recently saw a rating for something titled Sega Rally Online Arcade for the PlayStation 3.

Curious where Rob got XBLA from that.

The 2007 version is the only car racing game I've enjoyed in years.

Applying a leap of faith based on OutRun Online Arcade being on both PSN and XBLA. Don't see why SEGA Rally Online Arcade would be on one and not the other. Tried to explain this in the story, sorry if I've confused the matter or mislead.

    @sven_vath

I thought there was but couldn't remember what it was

I remembered the celica & stratos (which is the bonus car) but forgot about the Delta (just googled it)

Instant purchase for me, if only we could have a HD version of the original Ridge Racer to go with it!

I don't understand why games need to be removed from sale because a license runs out. You don't often hear of a movie being pulled from shelves because there's a shot of a Coca Cola can in a scene and their Coca Cola license expired.

I'm hoping this is a downloadable version of the orignal arcade - I'd love that .... until the Toyota licence runs out.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who really enjoyed Sega Rally Revo, it's a real shame Sega shut down Sega Racing Team after just one game. Ploughing furrows in muddy tracks and disrupting virgin snow was a real visual treat, and I loved how mud and snow would dynamically plaster itself to cars as they hit various surfaces. I think from a technical standpoint it was criminally overlooked, and while it wasn't 60fps, I'm pretty certain it was a solid v-synced 30fps, rather than the uneven 20-30fps we usually get from games this generation.

My only criticism of Sega Rally Revo was that on two tracks the AI was way harder than anywhere else in the game, even when you played those same tracks in practice mode with the AI set to Hard. I guess it could have been fixed with a patch if Sega hadn't shut SRT down... :(

I also rated the 2007 reboot. However, I'd also love a HD online redux of the Dreamcast Sega Rally game!

Same for me with Sega Rally Revo, very very good racer, still enjoy knocking it on every now and then to try and finish the last championship but as someone said on some tracks the AI is rock hard, other than that though the game is great, love playing it.
I was very annoyed when SEGA shut SRS down, it had headhunted many developers with a proven track record in racing, they turned out a very good game which was then never given a chance by being launched at the same time as one of the biggest games of the year.
I was looking forward to seeing what they could do with Daytona or even Manx TT Superbike (which nobody seems to remember these days!).

I heard most were hired by Codemasters so good to see a happy ending anyway, still who knows what they could have done if SEGA had been more patient with them :(

"Plus, the world hasn't seen anything of SEGA Rally since 2007"

Unless you go to an arcade, where you may find the more recent Sega Rally 3. It's superior to the 2007 game and runs at 60fps.
  • LeSpank #25 1 year ago

I would prefer the original 1995 (Model 2/Sega Saturn) game, or Sega Rally 2 (Model 3/Dreamcast/Windows).

The most recent Sega Rally on the consoles had some good technology but had awful floaty car handling, which was inferior to the in-house Sega developed games.
