The official PlayStation app for iOS and Android mobile devices is now available for download free of charge, Sony has confirmed.

As reported last month, version 1.0 lets you check your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends' games and online status. You'll also get PlayStation and PSP news as it happens, and can log on to the PlayStation Blog.

It's compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch devices sporting OS 4 and above, and most Android handsets with a minimum of OS 1.6.

For now, it's only available in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands, but Sony hopes to roll it out to "most of SCEE's markets" with the next update, which is due "soon".
