Guardian of Light ported to iOS.

Digital Tomb Raider spin-off Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be available later today on the App Store, developer Crystal Dynamics has announced.

It seems like it's a straight port of the brilliant Xbox Live Arcade/PlayStation Network original but with revamped controls. The standard iPhone version will cost you Ł3.99 or there's an optimised iPad take for Ł5.99.

It's been ported by UK-based Ideaworks Game Studio, the same team responsible for iOS versions of the Call of Duty, Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil franchises.

"We're thrilled to bring the Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light app to iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users," said Crystal Dynamics general manager Darrell Gallagher.

"The controls have been optimised to take advantage of these amazing devices and the graphics are absolutely stunning."

Just to say, Ideaworks are very good at what they do. I can't speak for Resident Evil on the iPhone (as I haven't played it) - but Call of Duty Zombies is great (though, too expensive - it is Activision, y'know). The controls are brilliant, and it's the best FPS I've played on the system by far (much better than NOVA, I reckon).

So, this could be one to watch.

Hmmmmm... as much as I'd love this to work, as it's an amazing game, I can't see how they'd adapt the controls - the original made use of pretty much every button on the 360/PS3 controller, plus both sticks. There'd have to be some shortcuts somewhere otherwise controlling it will be a nightmare.

Well this was unexpected. Absolutely love the console/PC version, if the controls work well on the iDevices I might pick it up on the go.

As someone who prefers buttons and sticks as opposed to using my fingers, I'll be sticking with the console version. Though it'd be kind of nice to have some parity in the cost of the game - how come iPhone gamers only have to pay 1/3 the price for exactly the same content?

UK region update on iTune usually after 11 pm I believe, so along with Lara Croft, we will see other goodies too, ie Real Racing 2, Uncharted clone Shadow Guardian, Riven (sequel of Myst), Aralon: Sword and Shadows, Port of Wii's excellent World of Goo, NOVA 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and so on!

What a week for iDevice owner and even with the vastly cheaper pricings, still gonna be expensive to consider several great games and I need to delete off few things off my iPad, but damn which one!

I think the tide is turning, I m in a difficult position of deciding which to keep in my 32 gb iPad, and which shows the improvement of the quality of the titles... if you know what to look for.
