Activision boss Bobby Kotick believes the publisher's immediate future lies in traditional gaming platforms rather than mobile phones and social networks like Facebook.
As reported by Reuters, speaking at the news agency's Global Media Summit, Kotick said "We don't view the App Store as a really big opportunity for dedicated games."
He didn't rule out working on the iPad in the future, but right now the publisher would be focussing on key core franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero.
"The place where you have the opportunities for growth is within the communities of franchises we control," Kotick explained.
In the past, Activision has released versions of its games on the App Store, such as Call of Duty: Zombies, Geometry Wars: Touch and Guitar Hero, but it sounds like they didn't quite rake in enough cash for the publisher.
He was similarly chilly towards social network games, insisting, "It's a different question assessing it as a business opportunity. Right now we don't see an opportunity for us to participate in that market."
Rival enormo-publisher EA certainly has done. Late last year, it purchased specialist social network developer Playfish for a cool $400 million.
