Wahlberg takes lead in Uncharted movie
De Niro, Pesci play dad, uncle.
Mark Wahlberg has officially been cast as Nathan Drake in the forthcoming movie version of Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 exclusive Uncharted series.
The former Funky Bunch lynchpin revealed the news in an interview with MTV's Multiplayer blog, stating that Three Kings director David O Russell hopes to start filming in the summer.
"David is one of the best writer/directors I've ever worked with," said Wahlberg. "The idea that he has is just insane."
As rumoured earlier this month, it looks like Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are also in the frame.
"That's who he wants to write the parts for," Wahlberg explained. "I talked to Pesci about it and I know David's people have talked to [Robert De Niro].
"I'm obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It's not going to be the watered-down version, that's for sure."
Should you want to eye up Wahlberg's suitabilty for the roll of square-jawed hero Nathan Drake, you can see him do his thing in The Boxer due in cinemas this year.
Naughty Dog, meanwhile, is rumoured to be prepping a third chapter in the Uncharted saga, with a reveal expected at the Spike Video Game Awards next month.

I really hope that he brings some of that Dirk Diggler charm to the role of Nathan. Also, given we know how well endowed he is, it won't take much exposition on why he has so many companion treasure hunters who are also hot.
That's my take on the casting anyway.
Also is Drake supposed to be Italian or something?

Fallon should have been in. But let's say it wasn't ever going to be him, I would have Bradly Cooper in.

I'm disappointed its not Nathan Fillion though, seeing as Drake is him.

Though, if they wanted to do that they should have used Patrick Warburton.

+1 to all the love for Fillion. Perfect for the role, and he actually expressed genuine interest in taking Drake on. It's like feeling the one chance for a decent video game adaptation drift into the ether.

How can Hollywood get this so so wrong. Fillion is ideal and put himself out there for the part, should've been a done deal. Cheaper too I imagine....Idiots. Officially boycotting this film.

After this news, I certainly hope so.

Naughty Dog and Sony should be petitioned for Nathan Fillion to taker the lead. Not only that Naughty Dog should be slapped round the face and berated. What were they thinking? is this more of a Sony decision tahn ND? Fucking Morons whoever made the decision.

Before any casting or screenwriting contracts are drawn up and signed, Russell should probably at least play Uncharted once from start to finish on Easy mode, with someone standing by to help him on any difficult bits.
Only after that should he begin to start thinking about how to proceed with the movie.
Otherwise, the way I see it, we are going to get an adventure movie about treasure hunters with possibly Wahlberg, De Niro and Pesci starring in it, and the name "Uncharted" slapped onto it.

I'd rather Barry Hercules from puppet TV sensation "Star Fleet" than Wahlberg.

Hardly inspiring confidence.

And as for Walberg, not a single person (well, person whos played uncharted) will be able to watch that movie without muttering 'shoulda been Fillion' the whole way through.
